Sunday Matters: Hello December

Sunday Matters

Did everyone survive Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday? I’ve never received so many emails. It was really annoying. In fact, it turned me off. Just too much stuff and my house is already full of stuff. Enough, already.

Right Now:

Yesterday we went to Disneyland and spent the entire day there. My legs feel like they are broken from so much walking but we love going. My son is still missing Disney so much. He sees it in an entirely new light now and it’s just magical.

This Week:

I have some fun stuff this week. I have book club on Thursday. We will discuss Sourdough by Robin Sloan. Remember Mr. Penumbra? Same author.

I also have a work Christmas party on Friday. I don’t have a good ugly sweater for it. Not sure what I’ll do about that.

Reading:

After Sourdough I am not sure what I’ll pick up. I am behind with my reading goals for the year. So much so that I just changed my goal on Goodreads. Yep, you can do that. So technically I now have three more books to read in December which is doable.

What should I read? I have King’s Elevation. I also have a non-fiction book I’ve been wanting to read, If You Only Knew by Jamie Ivey. Ivey writes this podcast I’ve been listening to, The Happy Hour. Her book looks pretty good.

Watching:

I started The Haunting of Hill House on Netflix. Holy cheeses. I watched the first episode while in my car, in the dark. I am not jumpy. Jump scares don’t really bother me but the visuals in this one. CREEPY and terrifying. NOTHING like the book it’s supposedly based on.

New Things I’ve Tried:

Disneyland has really upped their game in the gluten-free department. We tried a new restaurant yesterday and they had an allergy menu and made me a delicious pulled-pork sandwich from it. It was nice to have the same thing my family was having and not be left out.

Grateful for:

I’m grateful for the awesome day we had yesterday. Beautiful, cool, weather and the crowds were not bad at all.

Today I have the hit the market and later I am volunteering but I will be recovering in-between. Fifteen hours at Disney did me in.

What are you up to today?

  1. Today? Just relaxing after working yesterday at the library, where we had a book sale that started Friday. I didn’t realize that Robin Sloan had another book. I’ll have to look for it.

    1. The Sloan book is enjoyable but if you read it you might have to have some sourdough bread on hand because it will make you want some. I can’t eat it… which kinds of stinks because I bet someone from my book club brings some for the discussion.

  2. We don’t celebrate Thanksgiving done here in New Zealand but blow me down, we now have Black Friday sales and Cyber Monday…yikes and all the adverts etc, way too much!!

    1. Seriously? I’ve always associated Black Friday and Cyber Monday with Thanksgiving so it’s weird that you are now bombarded with those emails too. So sorry for that. I really cannot deal with the commercialism of Christmas. I want to be like the Kranks and skip it.

  3. Those emails really bugged me too. I love Disney but don’t know if I’ll renew my annual pass. I used to have them for all the theme parks but this year just got Disney. I think next year I might get Universal/Islands of Adventure and/or Busch Gardens. I’m working now and don’t have time to visit all of them. Hope your legs feel better soon!

Which pedometer app do you use?

    1. My app is just called Pedometer and it has a blue foot on it. My daughter’s is better. Hers is also called Pedometer but has pink feet! I had an injured foot going into it and now, because I walked way too long on it, it threw my entire body off trying to compensate for it. I am such a mess. In pain all over like I fell out a window or something. It’s gonna be another day or two before I feel normal again.

  4. I would love to live close to a Disney park to be able to pop in and visit any time I want. Seeing those who have season passes is the one time I regret not living in SoCal or Florida.

I ignored everything after Thanksgiving. I saw someone post a meme about how Black Friday and Cyber Monday are great ways to unsubscribe from all those mailing lists you are on, so that is what I did. Best thing ever.

This weekend finally ushered in Christmas for me. It needs to be December before I can start celebrating and decorate the house. I took my time this weekend and am pleased with how it turned it this year. I still need to finish the tree, but that is for the evenings this week. I am all about a little at a time this year.

    1. I hear you. I am toning Christmas down for us this year but unfortunately, a bunch of other things, unrelated to Christmas seem to all be hitting right around Christmas which is stressing me out big time. However, I am taking today to put those things in order because right now my mind is all over the place which makes it much worse than it probably is.

  5. I wish one of the Disney’s weren’t a huge haul for us. I’d love to take my daughter so she can experience the magic, but it’s just too expensive for all of us to fly, rent a car, and then stay…nevermind the park tickets.

Sounds like the Disney program really made an impression on your son!

I vote for Elevation as your next read. It’s a quick one.

    1. Even without the hotel and airfare it was still over $500 to get in and that was just one park, one day. I have a Disney Chase Visa so with my Disney dollars earned we saved over $400. You should get the card, put all your stuff on it, pay it off each month and then in a couple of years you’ll have a decent amount saved. My son is applying for a Disney internship for the summer so we’ll see if he gets it. If he does, the perks are so good.
