Sunday Matters: Mother’s Day Edition

Sunday Matters

Happy Mother’s Day! Long ago, I gave up trying to do the “brunch” thing because it is just too darn crowded and you know how I do not like people. Kidding, sort of. I do not like crowds. So we combined my husband’s birthday with Mother’s Day and celebrated last night with the Avengers and dinner.

Right Now:

We are getting ready to head out the door to church and then? Nothing. Well, maybe a drive to the beach or to Ojai to visit one of my fave bookstores. I do not volunteer tonight as we have the night off. I am so excited to not have anything pressing to do!

This Week:

Guys, those two challenging weeks are behind me and in health news, my biopsy came back normal. I was seriously beginning to get freaked out but I am addressing the other issues with my doc and hope to be heading in the right direction soon.

That said, this should be a  good week. Not much going on. We have started to think about summer only because my daughter’s schedule is nuts (as you know) and she has to get all those credits in so we are waiting for the counselor to get back to us on how to handle her schedule for next year.

Reading:

I dove head first into The Female Persuasion and let me tell you, I am so into it. It’s reminding me a lot of The Interestings which I loved.  It’s a totally different story but that feeling of angst is the same.

Watching:

For TV, Fear the Walking Dead was rather boring  last weekend. I am hoping tonight’s show picks up the pace. The Roseanne reboot is still not impressing me.  Oh, and I mentioned the new Avengers movie. Ugh.

Making:

I made a real mess of the kitchen by making fried rice. In theory it sounded like the perfect thing and I have made it plenty of times before but for whatever reason I made a real mess this time. Too many chopped up veggies? Even the pup had rice on her head.

I don’t think I will be making much this week even though it’s the first time in a long while I’ve had the time to cook.

Grateful for:

That biopsy result.

If you are celebrating Mother’s Day today, let me know what you are doing! If not, let me know what you are doing anyway.

  1. Really happy about your great biopsy report! The BEST news. Happy Mother’s Day. My daughter in law stopped by with my favorite Bennett’s donuts and a huge bouquet of flowers. She is so sweet and thoughtful. I’m totally into reading beach reads this month. I deserve it. Love your bookstore post.

    1. Well, my fave bookstore did not have the book I wanted, a print copy of Gentleman in Moscow so I left empty handed!

My son had flowers sent and they are so fresh they are still in buds. He also pulled a prank on me by telling me he proposed to someone AND provided a picture of it. He’s such a weirdo.

  2. Glad about your health news. I am amazed that you can commit your Sunday nights the way you do…I know you enjoy it but I always needed to be home on Sunday nights…esp when I was teaching.

    1. The Sunday night thing is very hard. It takes a lot of effort for me to leave the house at 6pm but I always feel great afterward.

    1. The Otter Pup sits right under the stove when I am cooking, hoping for a scrap or two. She got some but it landed on her head, apparently.

  3. Not doing much today as I am sick and my mother and daughter are both gone. So, it’s just me and the dog. I did make a yummy farro and veggie dish. Can you eat farro?

    1. First off, I am sorry you still aren’t well. That blows. The farro dish sounds yummy but farro does contain gluten so I am not able to have it. I spent the entire weekend eating. P.F. Chang’s gluten free menu is pretty decent. We had that after the Avengers and then the next day I managed to have pizza AND a burger at some point. I am so tired of food.

  4. First of all, so happy your biopsy turned out well. Hoping that you and your doctor can figure out which way to go now for your health. And a very Happy Mother’s Day to you! We went to lunch after church with my husband’s mother and sister and niece. We had dinner with our daughter and son-in-law last Thursday evening and celebrated both his birthday and Mother’s Day. My girl worked last night, but sent me a nice text early this morning. So, ‘ugh’ on the new Avengers? Oh no! We haven’t seen it yet, but pretty much nothing could keep me away from it. Hope I like it better. LOL

    1. After you see the Avengers, buzz me. I don’t want to give anything away.

Sounds like you had a nice Mother’s Day weekend. I’m sorry your daughter had to work though. We drove to Ojai to visit my fave bookstore but they were rather picked over and did not have the book I wanted. I just wanted a print copy of Gentleman in Moscow since I loved it so much. I had pizza. Gluten free but it was still pretty good. On the drive home I found a Spotify station called Peaceful Guitar and promptly fell asleep. Good thing my husband was driving.

  5. Back to normal for me after my week off of household work and cooking. The kids did a fantastic job making meals and keeping the house clean though, all with no fuss. I feel like I need to spoil them now as a thank you.

So glad the biopsy came back normal. Now you can focus on getting better.

  6. Glad you had a happy Mother’s Day and what a relief about the biopsy! I finished The Female Persuasion over the weekend and loved it. The Interestings was a favorite the year I read that one, too. Wolitzer is such a good writer!

    1. Yes, I tend to like Wolitzer quite a bit. There was one book that didn’t jive with me (The Uncoupling) but I loved The Interestings.

And yes, so glad that biopsy came back normal. I was really beginning to get nervous.

  7. What happened with the Avengers movie? Any good? I have been to Bart’s Books in Ojai — neat place. Love Ojai too. So glad your biopsy came back normal. What a relief. Hope you are feeling a bit better. I was grateful to call my mom on Sunday. She’s in Redlands and has had some ailments lately. I just hope nothing too bad.
