I announced it on Facebook already but The Girl made the freshman volleyball team. I don’t know how she will balance it all but it’s her freshman year and she reminded me that she is trying things out. We are supporting her efforts and will reassess if something needs to be tweaked next year. Volleyball, concert choir, community theatre and high school theatre. It’s going to be a fun and busy year.
Right Now:
Not much going on this weekend besides the normal stuff. I am out of bread for toast so a gluten-free egg sandwich from the coffee shop is sounding pretty good. In a bit, I am going to tackle my garage. It appears to be breeding.
This Week:
I’ve got some appointments scheduled. I feel as if I am always going to medical appointments. I guess with kids it’s hard to get around that.
My son’s girlfriend leaves for college this week so there will be some emotions I’m sure.
First volleyball game is this Tuesday. We are not going. First, it’s way early in the day and we are working but mostly because The Girl does not want us to attend her very first game.
Reading:
I finally finished A House Among the Trees and even managed to post the review. Now I’m reading The Breakdown which seems to be very popular as so many of you have already read it. I am actually almost done with it. I love it when you can plow through a book in just a couple of sittings.
Watching:
I am trying to clean up my DVR list because I only have 20% space available and all the good shows will be starting soon. That means I have been watching Roseanne, The Bob Newhart Show, and I need to get to the following movies:
- The Princess Bride (never seen it!)
- Interstellar
- Down and Out in Beverly Hills (Oh, the 80s)
- Ruthless People (I must be on a Bette trip)
- Rope (Hitchcock)
- The Abyss (most terrifying deep sea dive ever + aliens)
- The Graduate (because it’s awesome)
- The Conjuring (because it’s almost that time of year)
- The Great Outdoors (a classic)
Uh, I have a lot to watch.
Making:
I made some pasta cheesy thing one night. I made chicken curry another night. I had Cheerios one night. I would love to collect some gluten-free casserole recipes. Casseroles sound so good lately.
Grateful for:
Page-turning reads.
Name one book you are looking forward to reading this fall. Me, you ask? King’s new one, Sleeping Beauties. Look out for the read along info soon.
The Girl will be busy but I’m sure she can do it if she decides she wants to. I’m surprised they’re having a volleyball game early in the day like that.
Freshman games are right after school but they leave early, around two to get to the “away” location. With traffic I don’t get home until 5 so the game is over by then. I’ll be leaving early to catch a few of them though.
OMG. Never seen The Princess Bride. That needs to be corrected very soon… And oh, great family movie too.
The Graduate is awesome, agreed.
Good luck to you, your family, and The Girl in dealing with her new schedule. You’ll need it. 😉
Bryan, I have tried to watch Princess Bride many times. I don’t know why but it doesn’t click with me. I watch about 15 minutes and then give up. I promise to give it another go. Everyone tells me I have to see it.
I forgot. You have mentioned before. If it isn’t your cup of tea, then it just isn’t. That’s OK too.
Down and Out In Beverly Hills and Ruthless People scream “we’re 80″s movies!” But I do love the both of them! The hubby is forever saying “give the bag to Bozo!”
I know. They both scream 80s but I love ’em so. I love having the kids watch with me.
She will definitely learn time management this year. Isn’t it awesome that Cheerios are GF?
I am glad I have Cheerios as an option. Sometimes I am just so tired of GF toast.
My husband has been chipping away at the disaster that is our garage. I’m so glad because it was secretly driving me NUTS. That breakfast sandwich sounds pretty good…for dinner. I’m hungry. lol –Andi, whose Twitter account won’t cooperate
Hey, congratulations to the Girl! She’s such a star!
A book I’m looking forward to reading this fall: My God, how to choose just one? I’m really really excited for this book An Unkindness of Ghosts, which is like a dystopian SF story set on board a massive generation ship where everything’s divided by class and an underclass self-educated girl is trying to, you know, shake things up. It looks amazing.
That. Book. Gah!! I need to look it up.
Yay for your daughter! My oldest daughter does not want us to watch her XC meet on Thursday – which is totally something I can relate to from my own teen years.
I read the Breakdown a few weeks ago….it was fast and I could guess the end, but that didn’t bother me at all.
I think I had the end figured out too but we’ll see. I had a rager of a headache all weekend long so I could not read or do much of anything. Will finish it tonight.
Congrats to The Girl!! Sounds like she is going to have a busy year – wow! I think its cool she wants to try new things 🙂
I love The Great Outdoors – such a fun movie! I can’t wait for the Fall TV shows to start.
I’m looking forward to the new Patti Smith book, which I will be getting a copy of later this week. I just fell in love with her writing and now want to read all of her books. And, of course, I can’t wait for your read-along for the new King 🙂
Hope you have a great week!!
I hope to have the read along button made this week. It comes out soon!
Congrats to The Girl on Volleyball. Wow terrific!! She’s got a lot on her Plate! but it’ll be fun too, I think. Volleyball is a great sport eh? Have fun with your movies. Interstellar is quite a time trip of a movie — even after it ends, you’re still figuring it all out. Enjoy your week!
And of course, I didn’t delete one move off of my list. I had a raging headache and could not even look at the TV for most of the weekend.
As for volleyball. Yes, it is going to be so much fun. We had one volleyball conflict with theatre that she resolved and she had one with choir that she resolved. I hope no other come up for for now we are good. First game is tomorrow!
Wow, your daughter will be super busy! I hope that doesn’t mean you’ll be overscheduled! I am slogging through Ulysses on my summer vacation and Stamped from the Beginning. I’m not sure why I picked two giant books, but I did. As for fall books, I’m so out of the loop. I’ll have to get back to you after vacation on that question!
Good luck to the Teen and to you! HS sports is a whole new world. Thankfully, the seasons a relatively short, and she will be done with volleyball before you know it.
I LOVE The Abyss. I don’t know why, but I can watch that movie over and over and over again. Have fun catching up on some oldies but goodies! It sounds like such a fun project!
I haven’t read anything in the past 4 or 5 days! Maybe that’s because work has started in earnest and I am hooked on watching Quantico
Congratulations to your daughter! I know you’ll be busy this year. You always are. 🙂 I tried to talk my daughter into giving up one of her activities this fall, but she wants to do everything. We came close to having to say no anyway for financial reasons, but so far it’s worked out. She wants to take music lessons, which I think we’ll have to put off another year as it is.
I hope you are able to get caught up on your movies and shows!
I keep hearing about Sleeping Beauties. I am sure it will be good. I haven’t really thought ahead to fall reads. I know I want to read Cinder this next month if I can manage it, but that’s an older book. I am still trying to think of what books to put on my TBR List poll this next weekend . . .
I hope you have a great week, Ti!
