Sunday Matters: Happy Sunday (Afternoon)

Sunday Matters

I was up early but didn’t get my post up before going to church so here I am. Late, but here.

Right Now:

We just got back from church and I just finished a White Chocolate Mocha with a raspberry shot. My new fave drink. I am not that into spending loads of money on prepared coffee drinks but when I do, I like to spend it on this one. So good.

This Week:

I have this week off. Several months ago I debated my return date and decided to take the extra week. I am glad I did because right before New Year’s Eve I broke my big toe. I’ve broken things before but this one is a real pain to deal with because you just don’t realize how important that toe is until you cannot use it. So, instead of completing my garage clean-up project, I will be sitting on the couch with my foot up.

Sometime this week, I have to run the pup to the vet for her shots but the Teen can drive me. I suppose he may need to pick up some items at the market too. In my head, I get ambitious and try to do stuff like hit this bookstore downtown, which I did just the other day, but I only lasted a very short while because wearing a shoe is not really an option and without it, I feel as if everything is a target for my foot.

This bookstore is called The Last Bookstore and it’s housed in what was once a bank building. Some of the rooms include vaults full of books. It’s wild.

The Last Bookstore

I don’t really have much else going on this week, except figuring out what my #OneWord will be for 2016. I had it narrowed down to two words and then this stupid foot thing happened and it made me consider some other ones. Soon. I will have it soon.

Reading:

My first book of the year is The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Which is a difficult read only because I really want to put some of it into action and can’t at the moment. I am going to start something else but haven’t decided what yet.

Watching:

I’ve been watching all sorts of stuff. The Twilight Zone marathon was interesting this year since it was aired in order. This meant that there were some episodes that I’ve NEVER seen before. Typically, the most viewed episodes are shown. I was glad to catch these rare gems.

The Girl and I watched The Fault in Our Stars. Well, I settled down to watch it on my own but she wandered down and ended up watching it with me. We both liked it and I felt it stayed pretty close to the book.

I’ve also been watching Laverne & Shirley, The Wonder Years and I recorded all of the Thin Man movies to watch this week. I’ve never seen them!

Making:

I made all sorts of stuff for New Year’s Eve and made so much that we ended up eating it for two days straight. I made wings, taco dip, pigs in a blanket, guacamole, pizza, salad and artichoke dip. Of course I have no food in the house right now.

Grateful for:

This extra week. Even though I am not able to do everything I want, I am so glad I decided to take this week off.

  1. White Chocolate Mocha sounds wonderful right now, or anytime really. I enjoyed The Fault in Our Stars too, both the book and the movie. Loved seeing your recent wings. Here? Still have wings left over even now. Was a special New Year’s Eve for 50 that I couldn’t pass up.

  2. Sorry to hear about the toe, what a great excuse to sit and read! I listened to the Marie Kondo book. A lot of her ideas sounded great, but I haven’t implemented any…..yet! I found the audio book on a great website called Hoopla.

  3. I am envying your extra week off. I could use that! However, in terms of getting back in a routine and eating better, school tomorrow will be a welcome return to normal.

Hoping your toe heals fast. I thought the same thing about my finger when I broke it this spring….who knew how important one finger was?!

  4. It amazes me how much really old tv you watch. I could never watch the Twilight Zone…nightmares!

Can you relax this week? Just let that toe heal?

We had bowls of pasta tonight…and I am making beef stew tomorrow…Den works…his one day this week!

I just finished one of the quirkiest books I have read in ages! The Portable Veblen…I loved it!

  5. I think I subconsciously make more appetizers than I need every time I make them just so we can eat them for leftovers! The Last Bookstore looks wonderful – too bad you couldn’t enjoy it more. I’ll bet you really were having a hard time with the Kondo book when you couldn’t jump up and put it into action immediately!

  6. Goodness, I hope you’re not into too much pain, Ti… Thinking of you and sending healing vibes 🙂 Also, only you would be grateful for the extra work ! ❤

  7. Oh my! I’ve broken a toe before, but not the big toe. Keep that foot up and let those kiddos do the fetching and getting. LOL

So glad you took the extra week. Enjoy your time at home. Looking forward to seeing what word you decide on. 🙂

  8. I am so sorry to hear you have broken your toe. Ouch! What a way to start the new year. I hope it heals quickly.

  9. The one marathon I would have loved to watch if it was in order — Twilight Zone. Ah well. I hope the toe heals soon. Sounds like that extra week was a good thing, even though you’ll be laid up.

  10. Sorry about your toe! That really sucks! Love that you were still game to hit up a bookstore 🙂 Enjoy watching all of your shows. I’m currently watching Wings and loving it. I saw that you are reading Ghettoside. Its on my TBR list – let me know what you think of it. Hope you have a great week and that your toe heals super fast!!

    1. I probably should have skipped the bookstore that day as it was downtown and required a good bit of walking but it’s so hard to find a good day to go downtown. I am glad I went. I picked up a couple of books and sat around a lot. It was good to get out.

  11. Eeks, the toe! I hope you feel better soon. I know what you mean about knowing the value of something only when you cannot use it. Ever since my delivery, I have not underestimated the value of a good functional rear. Just saying.

I am wishing I had one more week off. I would have really appreciated having that one to recover from jetlag and get into a routine here.

    1. A good functional rear. That really paints a picture for me.

I am sorry you had to go back jetlagged. That sucks majorly. I hope the week is treating you well, though.

  12. After reading your post, not only do I now want a White Chocolate Mocha with a shot of raspberry in it, I want everything you made for New Year’s. I have no food in the house either, but I don’t have a broken toe preventing me from hitting the store.

Hang in there and try to enjoy your last week of vacation! You deserve it!

    1. Have you had the White Chocolate Mocha with the raspberry shot yet? I am telling you. I am not a fan of raspberry but my cousin told me to try it and I love it.

I still haven’t gone to the market!! We are eating crumbs now. My foot was the main reason but now it’s the weather, even though we have a small bit of sun at the moment.
