Sunday Matters: What Day Is It?

Sunday Matters

Christmas has come and gone. It went quickly didn’t it? How was your Christmas? Ours was probably the best Christmas we’ve had in a really long time. It was simple. No stress. No expectations really of how it should be.

We had a nice Christmas Eve dinner at my mother-in-law’s house and got to visit with family that we haven’t seen for awhile. Christmas day we had breakfast, opened gifts and then watched movies until it was time for dinner.

We went to a fave restaurant for Christmas dinner. This year, it was really crowded so maybe next year we’ll try a different place. After dinner, we saw The Force Awakens. No spoilers here but just go see it.

Right Now:

Our church is closed today for the holiday break so I am watching the service online, which is on demand all day long if you care to check it out. I’ve already had two cups of coffee and I am slowly, slowly getting ready for the day.

The Teen is going to a museum today with his friend.  Not sure what we’ll do. I feel tempted to venture out because we’ve been inside for a bit but will I? Probably not.

I am also working on my “one word” resolution for the year. I have a word but it’s not quite right. I’ve been doing some journaling and worksheets that another blogger shared with me to come up with my one word. I am getting closer but I am not there yet.

This Week:

The Hub is back to work on Monday but I am still off with the kids. Not sure what we are doing for New Year’s Eve. We are not the partying types but The Teen indicated that there is nothing for teens to do so we may end up with some of his friends over here.  I am thinking Chinese take-out and corny 80s movies. Sounds like a rip-roaring time to me.

Reading:

I am going to finish Norwegian by Night this week and call it the last book of the year.

Watching:

I watched nearly every Christmas movie that I wanted to watch. I am also really into old TV shows right now. Lots of Emergency! and CHiPs and Bob Newhart.

Making:

I am thinking of making spaghetti tonight. Maybe some meatballs to go with it.

Grateful for:

I woke to the news of the tornadoes in Texas so I am just so grateful for the roof over my head and I will be praying for all those affected by this recent wave of tornadoes and for all the lives lost.

  1. I’m still working on my one word with worksheets and an e-mail course too. Luckily, I started it yesterday (being a five-day course) because it will take me up to Thursday, when I can decide.

Glad you had such a stress-free Christmas. We did too…and just saw Star Wars last night. I think my wife enjoyed it more than I did, but I thought it was very good.

  2. I am on the sofa with a leopard throw over me. We just finished the papers and a Bloody Mary…it was awesome. Football is on and I am checking out email and prepping in my head to make lasagna…we are supposed to go out tonight but seriously? It’s a gray wet chilly misty day! It’s really foggy, too and the restaurant is over the hills and through the woods…with a deer ready to fly across the road at every turn. We love this place but usually for lunch in the daytime…in another 20 minutes we will call and cancel…

Reading and loving The Nest! Another cup of coffee sounds really good right now!

  3. I’m chilling with 2 cats on my legs (yes the legs are a tad numb). Hoping to finish Bohjalian’s, The Night Guest today. Sounds like you had a nice Christmas. I didn’t do much blog hopping in the last week so I need to catch up.

  4. I have to head back to work Monday too, but while I still feel tired, it’s actually a good tired. Not that stressed out tired of late. It’s more of a we spent a lot of time together and had fun tired. It was good to do things; I think it’s the most we’ve gone out to the movies together in a long time.

  5. Sounds like y’all had a very nice Christmas! And, YES, it went by so quickly! This will (hopefully) be our last Christmas in Florida and it was a nice one. Very laid back and enjoyable. Low stress as well. I’m looking forward to more showings of the house this week and finishing a couple of books before the new year. Enjoy your time off with the kids! Happy New Year Ti.

  6. Christmas is always here and gone in a flash! I’m working on my ‘one word’, too. Selected one from a list that I’m pretty happy with, but also going through the worksheets just to be sure.

Hoping to finish The Story Hour for my last book of the year. Enjoy your time off!

  7. I am so glad you Christmas day was stress free and delightful. I know there was some stress earlier in the month. I am off work most of this week–will go to the office on Tuesday and maybe part of Wednesday–yesterday we took it really slow as I was pretty tired from our fun but whirlwind holiday–my husband and I hung out at Borders, drinking coffee, reading, browsing books and of course a little knitting for me. Then dinner out. Today we are headed to the mall for a couple of exchanges and maybe a quick stop at the yarn store for a sale. It feels good to take things slow and have no immediate demands. I plan to journal this year–revolving around my necessary weight loss—it needs to happen. I have not done the one word for the year thing before but have a word for this year.
    Have a wonderful week, Ti!
    xoxoxo

    1. I am so curious over your one word but I will wait for you to share it. I am getting close to nailing it down.

Do you remember when I had that lousy doctor’s appt and it scared me enough to vow to lose 20 lbs by Christmas? That was in October. I did lose it. I didn’t announce it but it actually happened. Losing weight when you have to is a real pain in the butt but it’s worth it if is keeps you around longer. More time to be with the littles and more time to knit!

  8. I did the worksheets and email course and ended up selecting a completely different word than what I originally selected. It just works much better. I am so glad I did the exercises because I feel hopeful for the first time in a long time!

Our Christmas was about as quiet as yours. We ended up not going out to see the movie that day. In fact, no one wanted me to cook either, so we ended up eating leftovers from Christmas Eve and just hanging around the house. It was so nice.

I have no idea what we will be doing for NYE. I will have to put in some major computer time on the first to get everything ready for the new year of production at work, so I am not really feeling a party of any sort. Not that we have been invited to one. I don’t even know what the kids’ plans are yet. I probably should get on that.

Have a great week off, Ti!

  9. Your Christmas sounds lovely, Ti. I am glad you had a nice one. Ours was nice too. My father-in-law only made two inappropriate jokes within my hearing, which is some sort of record, I’m sure. Mouse was in seventh Heaven with all the attention she received. It helps being the only child in the family. 🙂 I got word this weekend that my brother and his wife are looking into adoption. I am so excited at the prospect. I just hope it works out for them. I can only imagine how stressful and nerve-wracking the process is.

I hope you have a wonderful New Year! We’re bringing in the New Year quietly, and hopefully will be in bed early. My mom is treating us to the Rose Parade New Year’s Day, and so we’ll have to get an early start for that. I’m not a fan of crowds, but I think it will be fun to do at least once, right?

Take care and enjoy your week!

  10. Bob Newhart! fun. I got to watch a new Christmas movie this year: The Muppets Christmas Carol and rewatched the Albert Finney one which I don’t think I have ever quite appreciated as much as I did this year. (I really really want to wear the hat of Ghost of Christmas Past.)
My words all start with F this year. Fit, Focused, Flush (as in abundance!!), Fun.
