This past week we had some fun stuff going on:
- The Force Awakens opened and The Teen got to see it Thursday night. We will see it as a family on Christmas day.
- We went to Disneyland on Friday and walked our legs off.
- On Saturday we attended our church’s Christmas service and it was good but some of the attendees had children who didn’t want to be there. I missed half the message but I could see that the mom was just as frustrated so I told her about some other viewing options which she ended up taking advantage of, so I got to hear the end of it.
- My last day of work was this past Wednesday! I don’t go back until January 11th!
Right Now:
Recovering.
When we decide to visit a theme park, we tend to make the most of it and I swear, my legs are nubs. I. Cannot. Walk. Coffee? Oh yes, there’s plenty of that and for it, I will hobble across the room to get it or beg and plead for The Hub to get it for me because it must be consumed.
We don’t have church today since we already attended the Christmas service so tonight we plan to hit a drive-thru nativity scene. Before that I am planning to watch movie after movie while I recover on this couch but The Girl is asking to go to the mall. Is she for real?
This Week:
This week will be spent trying to figure out what needs to be done before Christmas. I did order my Christmas cards but they weren’t scheduled to arrive until 12/22 but they just came yesterday! They’ll go out tomorrow, hopefully.
I scheduled physicals for the kids this week since they are off and the Otter Pup needs to get her shots so there will be a tiny bit of business to take care of, but not much.
We are going to my Mother-in-Law’s house for Christmas Eve. We are never sure who will show up but there’s family and often some very close family friends. I like it best when there are a lot of people there. Sometimes we play Trivial Pursuit. It can be a lot of fun and the food is always good.
On Christmas day I will make breakfast (not sure what but it usually includes bacon) but we have reservations for dinner and then we have reserved seats for the 7:30 pm show of The Force Awakens! Trying to keep The Teen from telling us any spoilers. Walking around Disneyland was hard because everyone was talking about the movie!
Reading:
I am reading Norwegian by Night for my book club. It was my pick for January and so far, I am happy I picked it. I also started The Invaders because it was on one of the “Best Of” lists I came across.
I finished Tender is the Night and I believe the review posts on Tuesday.
Watching:
We saw Elf last night. I have Christmas in Connecticut recorded. I’ve never seen it before. Tonight I am going to try to watch Jingle All the Way.
Making:
After going to Disneyland I have a craving for Gumbo. Theirs looked really good but was not gluten-free. I’d love to make a big pot but the kids are not fans if it. They don’t like anything that you eat with rice. They are weird.
Grateful for:
Quiet moments. I don’t have many, but I had a few while at Disneyland. I sat there, surrounded by the sounds of Christmas and the beautiful lights and just felt at peace. It happened more than once and I took notice because Disneyland is such a wonderful, chaotic place but it’s quite magical too.
How does your week look? What plans do you have for Christmas?
So far behind this year. No cards made or sent, very little shopping done. Feeling behind and still have work this week. But I did get to see Star Wars — a surprise from my honey bun — and it was a great present!
Don’t let the season push you into doing stuff you have no time for. The world will not come crashing down if cards do not go out this year. At this time of year I normally have tons of cards received but this year? Maybe 8. Everyone is busy and if not doing cards makes it easier then go with it. I almost didn’t do cards but then the teen keeps saying it’s his last Christmas at home, etc. Blah blah.
Would love to see Disney all decked out for Christmas!!
Disneyland at Christmas, when the weather is great, is like a treat for the soul. It was just so lovely. They really do it right.
Oh Christmas cards are wonderful. I’m old school but I like still sending some out, enjoy. I’ve seen Norwegian by Night and I’m intrigued if it’s good. We will be in the OC for Christmas and that will be fun. Hope you & your family have a very merry Christmas!
The weather in California was right now is rainy and chilly but not nearly as cold as where you are. I hope it warms up a little by the time you get here.
Hey! We’re going to see The Force Awakens on Christmas day too. About the same time too…well, relatively but different coast. It probably will be ending for us about the time you’re getting ready to go. I’ll tell you about it as soon as we get back ;).
The Girl is insane. Why don’t have you have ask The Hub instead? 🙂 Christmas and bacon. Oh, yeah. us too.
Norwegian by Night just missed my top 10 list, but was in my honorable mentions. I really enjoyed it. I hadn’t seen Christmas in Connecticut until a few years ago too. Hope you like it.
We are all going to go this evening. That was my bargaining chip. I think it will still be nuts but less so in the evening and for some reason I handle the mall better at night.
I am really looking forward to seeing the move. I hope the reserved seats and upscale theater preserve the experience for us. I REALLY can’t stand talkers or cell users for a big movie like this.
Oh gosh, I’m tired just thinking about walking around a theme park! It’s been years. I know Greyson will be old enough to love them soon, so I’d better get ready!
I am so happy that you are about to have a somewhat chilled out week. We are relaxing…and done shopping but not one thing is actually here yet…so I will wrap on Thursday…hopefully. Lists are made…we are going out for Christmas Eve but staying in all day on Christmas Day…after church. Everything is planned and set…I think!
We are about to head out to the mall for a bit. I know it will do me in but there isn’t a lot to get. Mostly the kids are looking for stuff for their friends. We’ll see what I can eat for dinner. I am afraid to eat anything.
Disney at Christmas- how cool! I need to see that at some point. Sounds like have you have been having a great weekend 🙂 Enjoy the rest of your time off! I’m hoping to see the new Star Wars movie with my sis next week. I hear it was awesome. As for books – I finished Emma, a couple of short stories, and am now unsure what to read next. I’m thinking Murakami. Merry Christmas, Ti!!!
Merry Christmas!! You MUST do Disney at Christmas some time. It’s so fun and magical.
Have A Happy Holiday and enjoy yourself. Will be home watching tv.
Happy Holidays to you as well. Watching TV is pretty much what I am doing right now. Old movies and Christmas movies seem to be the thing right now.
Vance has seen Star Wars twice already but I don’t plan to see it. I’m as ready for Christmas as I’m going to be expect for the grocery shopping and I dread that.
I hit the market today for cookie making supplies and stuff to make for the week but we are going out for Christmas dinner so I don’t have to shop for that. Thank goodness!! I hate the market and to be honest, I just hate going out.
Ugh, I can’t believe I wrote expect instead of except.
I saw ELF twice this Christmas season LOL – love that movie. Our day after Christmas movie will be JOY, can’t wait to see it. I took Invaders home from the library but returned it unread as the reviews didn’t seem very positive. Hope you enjoy it.
Joy looks pretty good. Can’t go wrong with Bradley and Jennifer.
I didn’t like Elf when it first came out, if you can believe it. It’s grown on me throughout the years. Right now I am watching The Man Who Came to Dinner. A classic but not as funny as I expected it to be.
Have a Merry Christmas if I don’t “see” you before then.
I love the Disneyland park this time of year. So festive and magical! I wish we had been able to go again before the month was out, but it wasn’t meant to be. My house needs a good cleaning and straightening this week before everyone gets here for the holidays. Hubby’s got cleaning duty since he isn’t working, but I probably should take care of the straightening. At least it’s not too bad . . . It just feels like it.
I hope you have a wonderful week, Ti. Merry Christmas to you and your family!
I know you go to Disneyland a lot but I just love it to pieces! We don’t have passes but we manage to go once a year, always at Christmas time and it’s just so fun. This last trip was the best one yet.
We’ve just seen The Force Awakens on Friday, and it was … well, I guess you’ll see, lol :p In other news, Mom arrived and she’s constantly fussing over me because of inconclusive test results, which will probably lead to surgery
I’m taking the damn thing out in January and we’ll take it from there. I’m looking forward to cooking – your schedule differs a great deal from mine! I start cooking on the 23rd, and do some more on the 24th. We go to midnight mass, then I steal a few hours’ sleep and usually wake up at 4 a.m. to plop the turkey in the oven and finish up the last of the side dishes. By the time our son (and the rest of the household) wakes up, most of the food is done, and then we can all enjoy the day. I’ll be watching The Shop Around the Corner and of course, It’s A Wonderful Life 🙂
Merry Christmas, Ti, and a joyous New Year to you and yours! Eat, drink & be merry! ❤
Taking a trip to Disneyland for me means months of planning, plane tickets, hotels and all that jazz. You sounds like an outing, no, hiking in your neck of the woods. Looks like you’re all geared up for a wonderful Christmas week. Have a great one! Merry Christmas to you and yours, Ti!
As well as we know Disneyland, when we went to Disneyworld we had to do the same thing. I had a planner with an itinerary, etc. We know Disneyland so well though!! We hit every major ride by 10:30 am.
Have a Merry Christmas!! Here’s to another year of great reads!
She wants to go to the mall? But doesn’t she realize that is madness? The mall is madness at any time of year and fills me with despair, but at Christmastime it’s all that times a million. I was NEAR the mall today in my CAR, and I could feel the waves of misery wafting from it. :p
The only thing that saved me is that her hip was hurting from all the walking we did at Disneyland two days before. We walked the length of the mall twice, she bought a gift for a friend and then complained about her hip. Of course, that is when I noticed that the Gap had everything 50% off and I could not check it out. Ugh!
You know, I worked retail for years and years when I was young and I LOVED the mall until about 10 years ago. Now, I cannot stand it!
I’m like you. If we go anywhere, I need to make the most of it which to me means a LOT of walking. My body WILL complain the next day but eh. I hope you get plenty of rest and recovery! The husband is still waiting to watch Force Awakens but that doesn’t seem to be happening any time soon, what with all the family commitments during this upcoming week.
H really wants to see Elf this year. I need to find a way to fit that into the schedule.
How has the Teen been after seeing Star Wars? It has been so difficult to not talk about it in front of H. I can’t wait to see it again with her!
