Sunday Matters: A Long, Much Needed Weekend

Sunday Matters

Good morning!! We woke to rain this morning. Granted, it’s not coming down at a steady rate but it’s cloudy and gloomy and everything is wet. That’s rain for us! I love it!

I alluded to some time off in one of my last posts. It’s the end of the year and I am in a “use it, or lose it” situation with my vacation time so I am taking Monday and Tuesday off and 11 more days between now and Christmas.  Then, between Winter break and January I am taking more time off. Yes!!

What do I have planned for these two  days? Well, I have to finish the Girl’s bedroom. It’s painted now. Also, the kids are on Fall break this Monday and Tuesday so we’ll hang out. The Girl turns twelve on Wednesday so there will be some celebrating for that.

Here’s a photo from the Dodger game we attended last night. We had field level seats and The Teen almost caught a foul ball.

Dodger Game

Right Now:

I really wanted to sleep in this morning but it wasn’t in the cards. I just could not sleep so now I am up sipping coffee and catching up on my reading.

This Week:

Monday and Tuesday, off. The final cast list for Peter Pan posts on Tuesday. Wednesday is The Girl’s birthday. Somewhere in between that I need to make a headboard for The Girl’s room.

Reading:

I joined three read alongs this month (Salem’s Lot, The Quick, Neverwhere). I’ll be using some of my time off to put a dent in those.

Watching:

Tonight is the last episode for Fear the Walking Dead. My prediction is that Nick will somehow end up with Rick and company on TWD. I was really liking all of the characters but the show took a turn and fizzled out, in my opinion.

Wednesday is American Horror Story: Hotel!! No Jessica Lange this year but the addition of Lady Gaga should be very interesting.

Making:

I haven’t a clue what to make for dinner tonight. The rain has me wanting something warm and cozy but it’s not cold out, really. What are you making? I need some ideas.

Grateful for:

I’ve been a bit anxious all week long. My health insurance premium is doubling, again for 2016 and it’s forced us to choose another plan. I’ve been anxious all week because of it. When you have an autoimmune disease, or any existing condition really, just the idea of changing doctors is a bit worrisome. I prayed on it and asked for a sign and got one so I turned the paperwork in and I am just very grateful to have this other option. It will save us nearly $300 a month and maybe we will get better care. That’s how I am choosing to look at it.

Okay. Fill me in. What are you all up today? I did a good job of catching up with blog posts last week but if I missed stopping by your blog or Facebook page, give me an update if you can.

  1. This week…AC broke…on the hottest day ever…then the temp plummeted and we needed heat…dealing with these knee injections in my knee…2 more to go and my knee really does feel good…sorting through the basement for Big Brothers…made amazing pasta and today I have a roast and potatoes and carrots in the slow cooker…going to see the Martian this week…and trying to understand why my sister in law is mad at me because we aren’t flying across country for a Bar Mitzvah…we have ben to every family event…but we just can’t do this one now…I do not want to fly anywhere…plus…she has never once come here…I don’t get it!

    1. What’s going on with your knee? I must have missed that conversation.

Your sis just wants to see you. Flying across the country is a big ordeal. She must know this since she never comes to visit you!

  2. Hub is making some kind of butternut squash soup. We feasted on lamb shanks and lemon potatoes yesterday. MMmmmmm
I started Salem’s Lot and also Sorcerer to the Crown by Zen Cho. I will see if I can access Neverwhere from my Audible account – pretty sure I listened to that one but I might have had the CDs and it was before Audible…. In fact, now that I’ve thought about it, yes, I no longer have it. Gave it to a friend. Oh well.
YAY that you got the painting done! Happy B-day to the Girl.

  3. Today, at my parents…celebration for niece’s first birthday….I know what you mean about days off at end of year. I’ve only got so many and have to use wisely. Enjoy your days off. 🙂

    1. I try to stack my days in front or behind other days off so I can get the most bang for my buck. It’s a tricky situation when there are so few in my department. But I got it all approved so I am good.

  4. Ugh, I thought health insurance was supposed to get better. Vance has an autoimmune disease too and his premiums are outrageous.

We have had enough rain for everyone and I am sick of it.

    1. I just never know what kind of care I’ll get but I guess if it’s awful, I can deal with it for a year and then go back and just pay the higher premiums.

  5. I am watching Fear The Walking Dead too. Don’t forget to check online for a Fear The Walking Dead webepisodes which occurs on an airplane. Who ever survives on the plane will appear on the FWD next year.. They will last only one minute. They will show some of them on WD. I am trying to get back into reading again and it is kind of hard for me to get back into it. What did you do to get out of a reading slump?

    1. I heard about the webisodes but did not know that a survivor from that plane would be carried over into a new season. I am not feeling right now that there will be another season of FTWD. I think the opening episode did well and it’s been lackluster ever since. I could be wrong though.

Reading slumps are the worst. What I do to get out of them is just bombard myself with more reading. Sounds weird but if I finish a book and don’t have one lined up to read, then I tend to lose juice. I have to have them all lined up so I can go right into the next one without a thought. That works for me.

  6. Hi Ti. Week’s been frazzled here too. I’m trying to find a dentist that takes Medicare/Medicaid, posting on Book Journey, catching up on ARCs….at least we have sun here today, although the drastic drop in temps made my spoyse turn on the heat 😦

  7. I’m happy to hear you’ll be having extra time off between now and the holidays — much needed I’m sure. It’s cold here 50s today but a high of 70 is expected tomorrow so yay for that. Love the family pic too. Tonight is salmon, green beans, cornbread. Have a great week.

  8. Great about the rain. And the Dodger game looked like a blast with those seats. Nice getting your days off. Enjoy and Happy Bday to the Girl. I’m headed to see my folks in Redlands this week, so I’m looking forward to being in the Inland Empire 🙂

  9. A little extra time off around the holidays sounds perfect… I used to get int those ‘use it or lose it’ situations when I was a NY state employee. The Dodgers game looks like a lot of fun! We had Italian Wedding Soup in the crockpot and I finished reading Did You Ever Have a Family over the weekend.

  10. I’m so glad for you that you’ll be able to take some time off between now and Christmas! There are only 11-12 weeks, so that’s a lot of 4 day weeks. Nice. 🙂 And Happy Birthday to the girl!!

Ugh insurance. BCBS is doing away with our plan so we have to search for another–likely HMO, which I guess is OK but not what we’re used to.

Our weekend was filled with grocery shopping, getting decor out of storage (but not setting it up), two birthday parties and a Halloween pumpkin party. I need one more day just to decompress. 😉

    Happy Monday!!

  11. Well, kind of a busy week, Ti, what with Hubs away the whole week and me left to man the ship solo… Some problems at school with our son (behavioral, as usual, but increasingly harder to manage). Speaking of anxieties, this is what keeps me awake at night, the fear that we’ll get to a point where management is no longer possible. He’s got Asperger’s. So, yeah, not fun… Anyhow, happy birthday to The Girl! That is a lovely pic of the family, btw.

  12. Good god, three read-a-longs…I couldn’t keep up with that.
Happy birthday to your daughter….and I hope the room gets done for her. I’m sure she’s anxious. I’m looking forward to Gaga’s appearance.

  13. You picked three great books for readalongs. I can’t wait to see what you think of The Quick!

I saw the pictures you are posting of The Girl’s room. It is coming together quite nicely!

I’ll be keeping my fingers crossed she gets a good part in Peter Pan.

Hang in there, girl! Enjoy your two days off and happy birthday to The Girl!

  14. Fear the Walking Dead is over? Awesome – now let me go binge watch it. I have been holding off on watching it because I didn’t want to deal with the ‘Dang it, I will have to miss the show tonight because I need to put the baby to sleep’ excuse. So now I can watch it at my convenience.

Happy birthday wishes in advance to the girl! Enjoy your long weekend!
