What exactly do I feel? I feel as if the school year is already upon me and I dread it. Without a vacation this summer and the lack of road trips in general, this was really a non-summer to me. I tried super hard to inject summery things into my days and weeks but none of it worked. I’ve been anxious and just a little too unsettled to relax.
The plus side? I’ve been a reading fool. It’s the one constant thing that brings me pleasure each and every day (besides family time) and this, I’ve been loving. After a long day of work, coming home to air conditioning and a good book has been wonderful. I am going to be very sorry when that time is filled with homework help and the running around that is my life.
This week, both kids register for school and they start classes on 8/13. We started back to school shopping which always does me in, but we are not done yet and I just looked at the cost of the senior fun pack. Goodness! It’s going to be an exciting year. I just wish we could quietly ease into it. You know?
Right Now:
I am writing out bills (fun!), filling out school paperwork (even more fun!) and tossing back some coffee and a gluten-free bagel. Some of you have been suggesting gluten-free bagel brands for me to try but none of them are available where I am. So today, my bagel is just OK. Someday, I will find a good alternative. After breakfast, we are off to church.
This Week:
I’ve got book club on Thursday and I haven’t read the book yet! I better get right on that.
Haven’t done a darn thing to The Girl’s room yet. How does one remove a border? We took it down but we can’t get the adhesive off and it’s holding up the entire process.
Reading:
I should be reading my book club book (Everything I Never Told You). I’ve read maybe 15% so far.
Just finished Murakami’s Wind / Pinball. It started off a little weird. I was worried I wasn’t going to like it but I ended up loving it.
I am 82% done with Atlas Shrugged for the #AtlasRAL. This book surprised me in a totally good way.
Watching:
Mad Men. I am halfway through the last season and now Netflix doesn’t have the last few episodes!!!! What happened to them?? They WERE there a few weeks ago. I am very angry about this.
I’ve been watching Humans too but very, very slowly. My kids think I look like the main gal. I don’t think so but they think so. Makes me want to stand in a dark hallway and pretend to be a robot.

Making:
I do try to cook a good Sunday meal because with church in the morning and then going back later to volunteer, it just feels good to come home and have something good. That takes planning though and although I had some recipes bookmarked (turkey burgers, for example) we’ll see if I actually have time to go to the store to get the stuff I need in order to make them!
Grateful for:
My reading time. It’s really the one thing this week that’s kept me from jumping out of my skin.
What are you all up to today? I missed two Sundays in a row because my MacBook would not boot but it seems to be working fine now.
I always hated the start of the school year so I feel your pain. I hope things go smoothly.
Wow, that’s an early start to the school year. So hectic making sure everything gets done and filled out and on the calendar. This year is a little bittersweet for me because my oldest is a senior and I know that she will be heading away this time next year. How does the time go by so fast? Happy reading and I wish you the best of luck with getting it all done including finding a decent bagel. 🙂
I know! The senior thing! Mine is also a senior and his choir trip is to NYC this year so adding to everything is a $2k+ trip in April! Plus college trips. Ugh.

So many moms I know used to be so excited for back to school but I hated it. I hated the shopping before, the idea of having to get everyone up and out the door, but, most of all, I hated the idea of my evenings being all about making sure homework was done and being on call to help. There are a lot of things I miss about my kids when they were your kids’ ages but that is not one of them! I hear you about this not being a very summery summer! We did our vacation in May, before summer even started and I have not once been in the water since. If I don’t get in a body of water on a hot day at some point, it hardly seems right.
I have to go back into the trenches after church to get a backpack for The Girl. There are so many to choose from but she wants the most expensive ones and I refuse to pay $80-90 for a backback.

My new MacBook is giving me a lot of headaches already, would you believe? I’m cursed! And Apple is no longer what it used to be 😦 Hey, I didn’t really get a vacation this summer, or road trips, or such… Hope to get to the beach next weekend, but who knows? I get what you’re saying. Thank goodness for the books!
My Mac issues stem from this program they installed for my work. It scans for confidential info but it doesn’t run right from my home. It needs to be on the school’s network to work right so it hangs. I had to boot in safe mode and uninstall it but even with doing that it still gave me problems last week. It’s old though. Yours is new! I certainly would not expect problems with a new device. Maybe it’s Yosemite. It seems to be a little buggy to me. #yiv9997525966 a:hover {color:red;}#yiv9997525966 a {text-decoration:none;color:#0088cc;}#yiv9997525966 a.yiv9997525966primaryactionlink:link, #yiv9997525966 a.yiv9997525966primaryactionlink:visited {background-color:#2585B2;color:#fff;}#yiv9997525966 a.yiv9997525966primaryactionlink:hover, #yiv9997525966 a.yiv9997525966primaryactionlink:active {background-color:#11729E;color:#fff;}#yiv9997525966 WordPress.com
According to my wife, only the first half of the last season of Mad Men has been on there. They haven’t gotten the last half of the last season on there…yet. At least, that’s what we think. It doesn’t make any sense but I think they’re waiting until the fall when “new” shows start. Same with Parks and Recreation too.
It was on there for a brief while. Or maybe, just the list was. I don’t know. I hope they do show up though. #yiv9500557983 a:hover {color:red;}#yiv9500557983 a {text-decoration:none;color:#0088cc;}#yiv9500557983 a.yiv9500557983primaryactionlink:link, #yiv9500557983 a.yiv9500557983primaryactionlink:visited {background-color:#2585B2;color:#fff;}#yiv9500557983 a.yiv9500557983primaryactionlink:hover, #yiv9500557983 a.yiv9500557983primaryactionlink:active {background-color:#11729E;color:#fff;}#yiv9500557983 WordPress.com
I hate computer problems and I can totally relate to yours because my internet is down today. I’m at my mom’s now because unlike most weekends when I only am goofing around online, I am back to work tomorrow and need to get some things looked up and lessons planned.
I just started Mad Men. I hope by the time I get to the last season all the episodes will have returned!
Man Men is such a smart show. You will love it.
I always hated the back to school season – I can’t think of a more depressing time of year and all the store decorations do nothing to make the period more cheerful.
I’ve just come to really hate it. It’s become as commercial as Christmas. The stores mark everything up. The lines are horrendous. I hate it.
I understand your malaise. I’m feeling the back-to-school blues too, even though mine don’t really start school until September. Getting ready for school though has become just as crazy as the end-of-year stuff. When did school become such a production?
I want to go back and get caught up on Mad Men. Hopefully, by the time I get to the final season, they will have all of the episodes on Netflix for me.
Try to have a good week. You will get through all of the school registration nonsense!
Sounds like reading has gone well for you! That’s great; summer flew by here. I have a week of vacation soon and even though we have no concrete plans, I cannot wait to not have to work at 4:30 AM everyday.
I found this, maybe the stripper advice could help with the border: http://www.howtocleanstuff.net/how-to-remove-wallpaper-border/
The very bottom might be most applicable: “If adhesive residue remains on the wall or surface after the border is removed, moisten a soft cloth with the stripping solution and gently wipe it over the surface. If a heat method was used, soften the glue with additional heat and wipe away with a damp cloth.”
Thanks so much. You are the only one who answered my border question. LOL. I am trying to not use chemicals because the girl has reactive airway. She gets asthma like symptoms if she gets a whiff of something. Oddly enough, she is OK with paint but stripper solution she’d had a problem with. I think I need to wet it all down and scrape the sucker off. It’s on all four walls and just a mess. From: Book Chatter
I hated back to school when I taught! That first week…I will never forget them! You are one very busy person! My head spins from your schedule…even going to church twice in one day…wow!
I always loved back to school. and not because I was anxious to get rid of my kids — I just love the hustle and bustle of fall. Like Tom Hanks said —Don’t you love New York (or anywhere) in the fall? It makes me want to buy school supplies! And the smell of newly sharpened pencils? I KNOW, that sounds weird. LOL
I don’t mind the school supply part but the late nights and hectic activity schedule and groan… the homework. That part I do not like at all.
Wow they start classes on Aug. 13? that seems early. Remember the good old days when classes started after Labor Day? And we almost passed out b/c it was like 200 degrees in the desert. I think my brother did pass out when we moved from San Marino to Redlands and had to start school. Funny now to think. Hope your days wont be bad right off the bat.
I switched email programs so forgive me if I responded to you twice! We are supposed to hit high temps again so the kids will be starting school when it’s hot as heck outside. At least registration day had some cool breezes to keep me from getting too crabby.
