Sunday Matters: The Day in Which Moms are Queen for a Day

Sunday Matters

Happy Mother’s Day to all the moms out there. We all deserve a much-needed break today, don’t we? I know I do after the week I’ve had.

I moved on Friday Yep! I moved twenty plus years of stuff into a tiny office space. I had a cube before. A large cube but it was in a two person office with a door so it felt pretty private. Now I am out in the open and right by a main door. Fun!

Here is a photo. See my windows? The windows to the reception/copy room area? Behind that chair, are two more workstations and a slew of bookshelves. No room for my stuff!

New office space

Right Now:

No big plans this Mother’s Day. Church, of course and then? Who knows? I am too tired to do much and The Teen is exhausted from all of his late nights on stage. Maybe take-out? I don’t know. I kind of want to hit The Last Bookstore in Downtown.  Click on that link and I promise your jaw will drop to the floor.

This Week:

Unpacking. Ugh. Oh, how I hate it.

Got to go in for some blood work later this week because I am not feeling that great. Well, that’s not entirely true. I have to go in every four months anyway to monitor the Lupus but I know that my results will not be good this time around.

Reading:

Just starting A Little Life. Everyone says this book will devastate me! Why am I so eager to read it then? I haven’t a clue. I guess to see what all the fuss is about. I am also reading Strays, a YA novel.  You know how some YA novels can be rather juvenile? This one is not. It’s quite good.

Watching:

Mad Men. I am into season four now. That Don Draper. Can’t decide if I like him or not.

Bates Motel! I believe the season finale is this Monday. It has been so weird and good.

Making:

I made tacos this week, twice. Chicken stir-fry one night. Haven’t a clue what we’ll have today.

Grateful for:

Okay, so The Teen wrapped Dirty Rotten Scoundrels last night but he gets to reprise the role one more time. This is the news I’ve been teasing you with.

The Teen on stage.

He gets to perform at the Jerry Herman Awards! This is a big, big deal!! I am so proud of him. Ruprecht lives!

I am grateful that he has this opportunity. I don’t even want to say anymore about it because I feel like I will jinx it so that’s all I will say for now.

Hope you guys have a great weekend!

  1. Congratulations to the Teen! How exciting for him and for you! What a fantastic Mother’s Day present, eh?

I was thinking about you and your move. I apologize for not being around to say anything sooner. Your new digs may suck, but you have to be happy that this is all finally behind you, right? Maybe?

Have a wonderful day, Ti, and make sure you relax as much as possible. If anyone deserves to be treated as a queen today, it is you!

    1. How was your Mother’s Day? Mine didn’t go as planned but I was okay with it. I was just so tired anyway.  I realized something this morning. No one gets here until 9am! I have two + hours of solitude so at least I have that.

  2. Love your blog’s new look. I’ve always had a thing for dots, so the header is right up my alley. Congrats to the Teen – that does sound like an amazing opportunity!!

Hope you have an enjoyable and relaxing Mother’s Day!

  3. Your new office looks airy, despite the unfortunate window issue. I didn’t know about your health situation, and I wish you strength and good results on new tests. I’ll think about you. Happy Mother’s Day!

    1. I kind of ended up doing nothing but not on purpose! We went to hit our fave Mexican place but I swear, the line just to put your name in was at least an hour long so we hit another place that friends recommended and it wasn’t very good. We then hit a fruit stand and came home to watch movies. It wasn’t what we had planned to do but I was okay with it in the end. I was so tired anyway.

  4. Congratulations to the Teen! And Happy Mother’s Day to you!

I have A Little Life sitting right by my bed. I thought I could get to it a few weeks ago, but then I started a bunch of other books. And now, I just realized I have two reviews due this week for books I haven’t started. So, as soon as I get done running, I’ve got to get reading.

Hope you are enjoying your day!

    1. I hope you had a nice Mother’s Day! Mine didn’t go as planned but I was okay with it.  I need to finish a book for a review this week so I know what you mean. A Little Life never had my attention this weekend because of it.

  5. Hope you having a great Mother’s Day! You deserve it. Good thoughts for your blood work. Congrats to your kiddo. Sorry about the yucky office.

  6. Nice office space. Good luck with the unpacking. I like the photo of The Last Bookstore. I could get lost in there! Have a good week.

    1. I was so careful when I packed but that was over a month ago and now the details are a little sketchy as far as what is in which box. I’ve unpacked the vital stuff but the niceties are not anywhere to be found.

  7. I hope you had a nice day Ti. Good luck with the blood work, and I do hope you love A Little Life.

  8. Happy Mother’s Day! Wow, your son must be excited! Is he nervous? I’m sure he’ll do great. He’s got the theater bug and seems to be destined for great things. Not much going on here, just hanging out this week with my parents and the daughter as we continue the mother’s day fun. 🙂

    1. He’s really nervous actually. He is trying to select the right songs to sing. Could mean a scholarship which would be wonderful.

  9. How wonderful for your son! I can’t wait until I receive my DVD of Dirty Rotten Scoundrels and see the show for myself. 🙂

I hope you like your new office. It sounds like a quite a change. Not only is it smaller but also in less of a secluded place.

A nice quiet Mother’s Day sounds nice. I hope you had a good one, Ti. Mine was full of crowds and lots of walking, but I had a fun time–as did Mouse and my husband. We had our first incident of losing Mouse while in a public place–luckily it was short lived and we found her right away. Talk about scary though! At least for us. She had no idea she anything was amiss when we found her.

    Have a great week, Ti!

    1. The Girl was always glued to my side so I never lost her for even a moment but my son! A couple of time even though he was right next to me each time. VERY scary!! On the show… did you get the email asking for the mailing address? He hopes to send the DVDs out by 5/22. I can’t wait for you to see it. It’s such a hoot.

  10. I just read about 3 weeks of posts because I am so far behind. Apparently, I have missed quite a bit. Congrats to both your son and daughter, and I hope that everything goes well for you this week on your blood tests. I will be thinking about you!

  11. that picture of the Teen is so expressive!! Sounds like he’s hit a golden opportunity–congrats to you BOTH!

Hope you can feel a bit more settled in your new space, even if it doesn’t feel like home. Frustrating when you don’t have much room for personalization.

Hope you have a great week and that your tests turn out ok–or at least help you on the path to feeling better. And looking forward to what you think of A Little Life. It’s been getting SO much buzz.

  12. Congratulations to the Teen! That is a really awesome achievement! I knew it was going to be some really good news. Happy belated Mother’s Day to you!

I really like your new cube – probably because it looks so clean and uncluttered (mine is a mess of three years’ worth of stuff). But I know what you mean – after being in a bigger office with a reading nook, it would be hard to move to something smaller. Did you manage to find a spot for reading?

    1. Although this floor and the one downstairs houses nearly all of IT, maybe 100 people, I don’t see any good spots to hide out in. They have a couple of “lounges” but they are Grand Central and too busy with in and outs. I am going to have to leave the building or maybe go to my car when it’s not hot out. However, this building is shared with Textiles and Design and I am thinking they might have some neat spaces they wouldn’t mine me hanging out in. There is a court yard but it’s like a prison!! Cement all around.

  13. Congrats to The Teen! That’s so cool. I was just thinking I wanted tacos soon and there you went and had them twice last week.

  14. Huge congrats to the Teen! What a wonderful opportunity for him. I’m really sorry to hear about your office, though 😦

That bookstore, though – 20,000 sq ft! Wow!

We didn’t do a dinner for Mother’s Day. The restaurants around here get booked up so fast it just puts everyone in a bad mood trying to find one with a table available for reservations. We went to see the Avengers instead.

    1. The restaurants around here are crazy on Mother’s Day too. I never did get to that bookstore though. I didn’t want to head downtown. I felt like sticking close to home.
