Sunday Matters: An Abundance of Eye Rolling

Sunday Matters

Strange title for this post, huh? Is it possible to sprain your eyes from too much eye rolling? This past week was a blur. When I really think about it, nothing huge happened. Just a bunch of tiny things to set the eyes rolling:

  • Teen left for choir tour. Routine was off because of it. He comes back later tonight.
  • I was told that I have to change offices at work. No more shameless reading spot. No more working in the library building. This is rather huge. I’ve been here for a really long time. Not sure how my early mornings will work now. I move in 2-3 weeks and they don’t know where I am going yet.
  • The Girl did something to her wrist while high jumping. Then she had something going on with HER eye. The drama!
  • Still cannot figure out my comment issue with WordPress. They can’t figure it out either but I am unable to respond by phone at all, and when I respond via desktop, all of my email header stuff continues to be included. It’s a serious drag because I love to reply to comments.

There’s more but I am done with it all. Ready to start a new week.

Right Now:

I am sitting in my track pants and attempting to be a functioning human being. Coffee helps. We will hit church later this morning and then the rest of the day is up for grabs. Errands. Probably have to do some since we hit Santa Barbara yesterday but I am in denial about what we have to eat in this house.

This Week:

I will be cleaning out my office space. I’ve moved a lot while working at the university but mostly it’s all been within the same building. Each time I’ve weeded through stuff so I don’t have that much junk but I have a lot of books from all the books sales I’ve taken advantage of. Do you keep a bookshelf of fave reads at work? I do. It’s mostly classics. I am going to be really sad to be leaving the library.

Let’s see, what else? Rehearsals will be back in full swing now that break is over. The Girl has the lap-a-thon for track, SAT prep for The Teen, and I have a hair cut appointment. Oh, I need to pick up my new glasses too. I hope they don’t make me look like a total dork. The Teen said they are hipster-ish.

Reading:

I finished Blue Sun, Yellow Sky. I will write-up my thoughts on that one shortly. I am currently reading The Bullet. It’s starting off so-so for me. I figured it would start with a bang (pun intended) but it’s a little slow for me. At least the beginning is.

I may start We All Looked Up. I need to light a fire under my butt and what better way than to read a story about a mega asteroid coming to Earth?

We All Looked Up

Watching:

I finished Breaking Bad and loved it to pieces. I asked for recommendations on Facebook and so I started White Collar, but it’s a little slow for me! Matt Bomer is easy on the eyes, but I think I will save him for American Horror Story. He’s joining the cast! I settled on Mad Men. It’s hard not to watch that one.

Making:

I picked up some beans to make soup with the leftover ham from last week. I’m sure it will make for some tasty lunches this week.

Grateful for:

I am so glad that we live close to the ocean. Not that close, about a 70 mile drive one way, but close enough to make the trip when we feel like it. After spending the day at the beach yesterday, I feel totally refreshed.

Okay, now it’s your turn. What are you doing today?

  1. I don’t blame you for feeling uneasy about your move. I hope it goes well and they put you someplace you will like. Matt Bomer on AHS? I may have to watch next season! I enjoyed White Collar but it isn’t on the same level as Breaking Bad or Mad Men. Apples and oranges. I live smack dab in the middle of Florida so I can be either at Daytona Beach or the Gulf of Mexico in about an hour and there is nothing better! The pics you shared yesterday were great! The ocean was beautiful! I read nothing this past week! But I have to finish two review books this week! Enjoy your Sunday!

  2. I hate change but once you get used to it…it will be good…right? The beach sounds cool…especially now since it has been totally icky weather here. I made an Itslian Ribiletta soup on Friday…so we are having that today…it was so good and no meat was involved…I served it with grated Italian cheese and a scoop of pesto and toasty artisanal rolls…I am reading and loving The Art Of Baking Blind! Today is going to be a lazy day!

  3. Oh, too bad about the move! Hope everything goes smoothly. We’re enjoying our first day here where it’s supposed to hit 70 degrees, but I haven’t gone outside to check! Trying to be productive on some work projects today but instead have been procrastinating! (a typical Sunday for me, in other words!)

  4. Your day sounds better than mine. I am cleaning, cleaning, cleaning. My husband gave my oldest daughters lessons on how to clean toilets. They were ridiculous about the whole thing. Apparently their hands shouldn’t have to get dirty. But, after all of us putting in a few hours, the house does look better – but yet, still in need of more cleaning.

I just want to curl up with a book for a while, so we’ll see if I can sneak a break in.

I tried reading an ARC of We All Looked Up. Anxious to hear what you think. I felt like it was a true teen book with the characters not being horribly developed. I like Susan Beth Pfeffer’s books better (She has a four book series that I felt like this book was copying).

Good luck with your move and your wordpress issues!

    1. I read the Pfeffer books which is why I wanted to read We All Looked Up. I have 10% of this one book left to read and then I will give it a try.

  5. Hope the move will work out fine for you. I don’t know about you, but I’m pretty bad with change, lol 🙂 It happens as we get old, I think…
Did some gardening today, because the weather was so nice/hot people are already turning on their sprinklers!

    1. I don’t care for open work spaces. Especially in my work. I might end up with an okay space but the entire floor is open. It’s just too loud even when no one is talking.

  6. The beach certainly has amazing restorative powers! Can’t tell you how much I love my morning walks down here… and the water is somehow different every day.

Hopefully your new office will have a place that could become the next secret reading place.

  7. The comments issue is such a pain, and so strange that your email header still gets included when you comment from your desktop. Have you tried replying to comments from within the WordPress app on your phone? I use that sometimes to reply to comments.

Keeping my fingers crossed that your new office will be in a nice beautiful building with lots of delectable spots that have the potential to be the next secret reading spot.

And I love that you’re so close to the ocean. I like living vicariously through your Facebook beach pictures. In an ideal world, I’d have a house on the beach and a residence in the city and travel back and forth 🙂

    1. I can reply using the app but it doesn’t go directly to you as well which means the user has to be subscribed to comments to see what I said.

  8. I’m thinking about what to read next. I’m still working on Middlemarch and I don’t want to start something new because I leave for the library conference on Tuesday and I want to be able to jump into any new books I pick up there.

  9. Since I work in a library, I have lots of favorite shelves of books. 😉 Actually, I do have a favorite shelf here at home with a few essentials.

Today? After reading through some Sunday Salon(ish) blog posts this morning, I went and helped a neighbor with some things to get ready for our town-wide community yard sale. Now I’m back to reading some more blog posts and maybe a walk here later as the temperatures are up into the 60s today. Maybe starting a book later, and more Friends with my wife (who also is a huge Mad Men fan…me? I never got into it for some reason).

  10. The first thing you need to do when they finally inform you of the location of your new office is find a new secret reading space. That is more important than anything! (I can’t believe you don’t know yet. That seems odd to me.)

Good luck settling back into the crazy spring schedule! I hope you were able to at least enjoy the peace and quiet of having one child in the house. You are going to post pictures of your new glasses, right?

    1. They don’t know what space I will occupy as of yet but I know which building and it’s a big, open floor plan. No good reading spots. I will definitely need to leave the building to get anything read.  If my glasses don’t look all that dorky when I pick them up I may take a pic. You know that is. You can’t SEE without glasses so choosing frames is a crap shoot.

  11. Bummer about the office move. I hate it when I have to move at office, though I haven’t done it in 2+ years. But at least, you can discover a whole new reading spot – something to look forward to? We All Looked Up sounds interesting – I’ll be looking forward to hearing what you think about it.

  12. Hope you will get another secret reading spot! I don’t keep any books at my office, just audios. Sorry about your comment issues. Frustrating when things are hard to figure out. I take for granted that I live so close (a couple of miles) to the beach. We’ve been enjoying some pretty sunsets lately.

    1. They don’t know exactly which space I am going into but they know which building and it’s a big, open floor plan. No reading spot. I’ll need to leave the building when I go to lunch. Kind of a drag.

  13. We had a glorious weather weekend and spent time at an outdoor mall and restaurant to enjoy the 70 degree temps. sorry about your move at work😹

  14. Oh no! In your Day in the Life post, your office sounded just perfect. I can feel how unsettled you are about it, and I hope they find a new spot for you quickly so you can wrap your head around it.

I feel the same as you, but it’s just because it’s a Monday, and I woke up with a headache. Yech.

    1. Hope your headache takes a hike! I had one this weekend and after taking an allergy pill it vanished, rather quickly. Allergies maybe?

  15. I think I need a break from work and drama as well. Book club drama. Book club itself this weekend went well or so I thought until that aftermath! We discussed my poetry selection, Song of Napalm by Bruce Weigl. I may have to break from book club due to the drama if it doesn’t clear up.

I loved the weather this weekend — we got our veggie garden started! Woot! That was my highlight this weekend!

  16. I’m fairly late to the Mad Men party, and I’ve only watched a handful of the episodes, but I’m rather intrigued by how the story is winding down. I’ll be very curious to see how discussions evolve after the ending…

  17. I keep thinking that I’m missing Walking Dead on Sundays, but it’s no longer on! ugh. Did we ever discuss the last episode? A friend said the ending was hopeful, but still a bit crazy too. I guess I’m a Good Wife watcher these days. A lot of drama there. Have a good week.

    1. Did you see the final episode of TWD? I think it pretty good. A good mix of action. My fave character returned. You have to know about that because it was all over the net.  The spin off starts in July. I am interested to see how they shoot around Los Angeles where shutting down a street for three days, which they did in North Hollywood caused a major problem.

      1. Yes I did see the final episode. I’m glad Morgan is back! Maybe Season 6 will be happier? Yeah I’ll have to check out the L.A. spin off.

        1. It felt weird for them to be ‘safe’ for a little while. I don’t like the dark dark episodes where they were all separated and all over the place but I do like when they are put the test with some major jerk (like the Gov) or the folks at Terminus even though I felt that entire story line was underplayed.

  18. Comments look better…does that mean they’re fixed? I’m so sorry about your move! At my old job I was moved 7 times in the first 6 months I worked there. I never fully unpacked for years because I was always certain I’d be moved again. I’v never considered keeping books at work but I bet they’re a nice reminder of things you love!

Mad Men. I loved it until I caught up with the show on regular TV and then we stalled. Have never made it back. Don was also a bit too dysfunctional to me. In a weird way a bit more than Walt was, I think! But still a good show–hope you enjoy it.

    1. Nope. Comments are all screwed up! I have to manually edit each one that I respond to. WP cannot figure out what has changed. Yes, it has to do with ATT email but that is a big email provider and they should be able to figure it out. And, I can’t reply from my phone unless I use a 3rd party email app. I have had the same email for a long long time, I can’t really switch.
