Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I love it so. I’ve been thinking about the meal and our day-long pajama party. What could be better? The fact that Christmas has been pushed upon us so soon, really gets to me! Just a few years ago, you’d wake up the day after Thanksgiving and everything would be transformed and you’d be anxious for Christmas. Not now. Sigh.
Of course, time seems to be flying by too. Tuesday, The Teen takes his first in-car driving lesson. He’s also looking at colleges. I think The Girl has skipped over the Tween stage and gone right into Teen. She’s been a real treasure lately. Smirk.
Last night we hit the ice rink. Everyone was bundled up in coats and scarves which was funny given it was close to ninety degrees yesterday. Us West Coasters try really hard to create seasons for ourselves but it’s not working out that great.
The first shot is The Teen and his girlfriend. The second is The Girl and her friend, The Girl is on the right.
Right Now:
Sitting here with a cup of coffee as the rest of the house sleeps. It’s a beautiful day and yes…sunny!
This Week:
Driving lessons, Annie rehearsals and some doctor stuff.
Reading:
- Driftwood by Elizabeth Sutton (REALLY enjoying this one)
- The Slap by Christos Tsiolkas (at a suburban BBQ a man slaps a child who is not his own. Drama!)
Watching:
The same two shows that I always watch, American Horror Story and The Walking Dead. Both happen to be really good this season. I saw that Snowpiercer is on Netflix instant view. I’d love to sneak that one in today,
Making:
Even though it’s warm out, I am craving chicken noodle soup. Yes. NOODLES. I’ll use gluten-free ones which won’t quite be the same but so be it. When you’ve got a craving, you gotta satisfy it. I think biscuits are called for as well. Mmmmm.
Grateful for:
I am grateful that I am able to take a good chunk of time off for the holidays. I’ve got Tuesday off for Veteran’s Day but I will be taking Thanksgiving week off and a couple of weeks around Christmas. I LOVE and need this time off.
Happy Thought For the Week:
Stephen King’s new book comes out on Tuesday. Revival is said to be his return to TRUE horror and of course I am hosting a read along for it. If you want to read it with us, you can check out the details here:
What are you grateful for today?
We have Snowpiercer in our queue too. Looks like it will be a good one. While I don’t have weeks off here toward the end of the year, I do have several days around Thanksgiving and Christmas. I plan to get a lot of reading in those days, of course.
Sounds like you are having a good Sunday! Chicken noodle soup — homemade sounds great!
OMG, I have made soup before but this soup came out soooo good. Even The Teen ate it up and he’s so picky.

Snowpiercer is an awesome movie! We are thinking of watching it again, even though the kids and I did see it in the theaters. Just FYI, don’t read the graphic novel. Sucky. I am grateful no fights have broken out at the house today. Too many damned hormones and crud going on here, and last night there was way too much drama for my taste. And I know the feeling of having that driving and college thing creep up on you. It IS a wonderful thing, though, when they can haul themselves around. You just get ulcers waiting for them to get home.
I love the way you love Thanksgiving! I am thankful to have a carefree peace filled day…nothing major to do…just read and chill!
Not sure what we are eating today…I have everything I need to make clam chowder but it doesn’t really call to me…lol!
I am also looking forward to Thanksgiving. Driftwood sounds like an interesting read, I may just check it out. I am making my way through A Meaningful Life (LJ Davis) and Breakfast with Buddha (Roland Merullo). So far, so good. Enjoy your day-
I have really wanted to read The Slap since it first came out but just have never yet. I know it got a lot of mixed reviews, but I am super curious to see what you think of it!
Re: The Slap I am at page 65 and it’s a little dark and scandalous so far. The writing is very good though.

For three years, I spent 10 days of winter in Los Angeles. It was really funny because I would be leaving 30 degree weather in Virginia and getting out into a 60-70 degree weather in LA. And yet, my cousin would be dressed very similarly to me, lol! She would even joke about it. She said the same thing as you – that she really tries to pretend that it is unbearably cold outside.
Sounds like a fun time ice skating. I’m not sure what I thought of Snowpiercer. It was just okay. I look forward to The Walking Dead. The episode with Beth last week was quite interesting. Hmm
TWD, Beth’s episode was weird. SHE is a little weird. Her responses to things aren’t what I expect half the time. Last night’s episode was rather uneventful. I am not a big Abraham fan.

Seems like your son just started high school — wow time flies. I mad chicken noodle soup last weekend and it was great having it for lunch for work as well.
I ordered the Kindle version of Revival so I plan to read it soon as well –enjoy.
Since The Teen sometimes wants to read King after me, I will hit the store tomorrow and buy the book in person. I forgot that I have the day off!

Kids grow up so quickly. As hard as it is to believe, you’ll end up loving it when The Teen can drive.
Maybe. Still not convinced! I don’t think he is either.

I walked out of the theatre during Snowpiercer. I thought it was so bad.
Oh really? That’s not good. I really don’t know anything about the movie. I’m just surprised to see it on Netflix instant view so soon. I never did get to it this weekend.

I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving, Ti. It’s actually my least favorite holiday. It’s more a deadline for me in terms of getting my Christmas cards addressed and ready to mail and all the Christmas gifts bought and ready to ship. Terrible, I know. We join the growing throngs of people who eat in restaurants most Thanksgiving Days.
This year will be different since I won’t be in any condition to do much of anything. My mom will be in town. We’re toying with the idea of inviting the in-laws–but if they do come, I won’t be up to entertaining regardless. I may just hide in my room and read. At least I’ll have an excuse. On the plus side, it will keep my daughter entertained. I’m hoping they have plans though and we can keep it just the four of us.
I know what you mean about children growing so fast. My three and a half year old has evolved into a snarky teen. I’m not sure where my sweet toddler went. LOL
I hope you have a great week! I have Tuesday off. Mouse and I will be having a girl’s day, just the two of us, since my husband has to work. I’m really hoping it will be an easy week. We need an easy week. We need an easy rest of the year, really. What are the chances?
I love Thanksgiving and everything about it. It’s the perfect magical lead in to Christmas. And, I swear that my teens were babies yesterday. My 16 year old has been driving for almost a year now. I wasn’t sure at first how it would be, but I’m liking it. He’s willing to run errands and take his brother places and they’re both a lot of fun. It’s nice. I’m really enjoying this stage!
I’m glad the driving thing is working out for you. Mine did not have the time over the summer to get the online stuff done so he’s a little late to the party and doesn’t seem that anxious to drive, in all honesty. But I figure, even if he doesn’t, he will at least be able to if he needs to.

I love Thanksgiving. I used to love Christmas. 😦 I don’t know what happened. Is it the commercialization that has killed it for me? Perhaps. I don’t want to see Christmas decorations at the stores in October, it’s just too much pressure and blech. But, people must be buying the junk or it wouldn’t be there. Right? Sigh.
Your kids are so adorable 😀 Ah teens, aren’t they a hoot?? Lol
I want that chicken noodle soup right this very second. Yummo!
Ah, The Teen’s girlfriend is adorable! But it still seems weird that he is old enough to have one…and to be learning to drive. Don’t even get me started on how much fun tween/teen girls can be. Yikes!
