Sunday Matters: Rest, Regroup, Reflect

Sunday Matters

Sundays are special. They’ve really become my favorite day of the week. Friday IS hard to beat. I mean, at the end of the week I am so drained that Friday is like a breath of fresh air, but Sunday is special. Usually my errands are taken care of. Usually I get to go to church and usually, we get together as a family, at least in the evening to spend some time together.

That said, I’ve re-structured my Sunday post a little bit. My goal is put the past week to rest and focus on what makes me happy.

Right Now:

Right now, I am enjoying my first cup of coffee and let me tell you, it is gooood. I’m also enjoying coconut Greek yogurt with sliced almonds, dark chocolate shavings and toasted coconut on top. It’s my new favorite breakfast. I love it. I will hit church and then it’s me on the couch with a book.

This Week:

Nothing much going on this week. The Teen’s drama competition is over so those rehearsals end and the ones for The 39 Steps pick-up again. Annie rehearsals continue as well. I really do love that my kids are involved in theater. It’s a lot of work but it always pays off.

Friday is Halloween and The Girl has a friend coming over for trick-or-treating and possible a sleep-over. She’s supposed to spend the night but there is talk of a cross-country meet the next day so I need to confirm. The Teen and his girlfriend may come over to carve pumpkins and watch a movie. Hasn’t been confirmed though.

Reading:

  • Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury
    • For a read-along and we are almost done!
  • Five Days at Memorial by Sheri Fink
    • For book club. All about a hospital and how it managed during Hurricane Katrina.
  • Mr. Penumbra’s 24-Hour Bookstore by Robin Sloan
    • Really, really different from what I thought it would be. It’s kind of good.
  • Driftwood by Elizabeth Dutton
    • Also very good. It grabbed me just a few pages in.
  • The Bone Clocks by David Mitchell
    • Took a break from it but I am back to it now.

Watching:

I finally got The Hub hooked on The Walking Dead. Still working on The Teen. He watches it, but claims that he is not into it. Yeah. Okay. Movie wise, I am lining up my horror flicks and trying to get them in but with The Girl around, it’s difficult.

Making:

I made meatloaf and mashed potatoes last night which will be enjoyed in lunches this week as well. Tonight, we will probably have turkey tacos.

Grateful for:

I am grateful for a lot these days. The roof over my head, my family, and that I was able to finally find a church that fits me.

Happy Thought For the Week:

This Friday I am announcing the details for #ReviveMe2014. Can you guess what it’s all about? REALLY looking forward to this.

  1. I feel the same about Sundays. I love hanging out with my family, cooking a big meal, watching some football. Ahhh, perfection.

How are you enjoying Five Days? I thought it was excellent, just excellent!

I wish I could get my hubby into TWD. He refuses, probably because I like it so much, lol. He doesn’t want to admit that I’m completely right about it. 😉

    Have a wonderful week!

  2. If I gave Jim that breakfast, he’d probably think he had died and gone to heaven! LOL

I have to say Sundays are always my favorite even when not working. Weird I guess. Something about them. Big newspapers, a feeling of “free” time, something

  3. I love Sundays! We are having meatloaf and mashed potatoes tomorrow, too…I have been really hungry for it…and tacos are on tonight’s linup! But we will get take out carnita ones…have a lovely rest of your day!

  4. My hubby just started having Sundays off after working Sundays for the last nine years (and before that he and I both worked in the restaurants and worked every weekend) so I am sooo feeling the goodness of Subsays lately! But do still like Fridays better because of the promise of the upcoming weekend. 😉

I’m looking forward to finding out about ReviveMe!

  5. Sunday is my favorite day as well and in fall and winter, at least, I try not to plan ant activities for Sunday. It makes all the difference for me.

    Have a great week.

  6. In theory I love having everything done before Sunday so that it can be a day of total relaxation (or at least without chores). In reality…well, at least I didn’t have to go grocery shopping alone with both girls. Scott accompanied me for the fun!

I’m afraid I may have flaked out on Something Wicked. The audio wasn’t grabbing me like I had hopped and Drood is sucking all the life out of me. Tempted to ditch it even though I’m the one hosting the readalong!

Hope you all have a wonderful Halloween! And yum meatloaf. It’s definitely on our two week menu somewhere.

  7. I decided to DNF Something Wicked around the 40% mark. Adding the audio may have made things even worse! I hate not finishing a readalong book… kind of feels like going to a book club meeting without reading the book:-(

    Now I’m curious about #ReviveMe2014!

  8. Rest/Regroup/Reflect: I like it. Nice…that’s what we usually try to do too unless we’re away. Great to be reminded of all of it.

I’m afraid (well, I’m not…but my wife is 🙂 ) that I won’t get her to watch The Walking Dead, but maybe someday I’ll get back to it.

    1. I am glad that the Hub is finally watching the back seasons. I’ve been trying to explain stuff in the current season and it’s so exhausting.

  9. As we were doing laps around the high school the other night, we were reminiscing about what we don’t and do miss. Definitely miss my boys being involved in theater there. Hmm, I wonder what #ReviveMe2014 could be about??? I heard him say that it is really back to the horror genre.

    1. Re: King. I read an excerpt that he put on FB and it was a little different. Had a different tone to it. I hope it’s good.

I love the theater activities and the choir stuff when they actually get to the performance but the stress leading up to the final product is what does me in. The Teen deals well with it to a certain degree but when it all piles on top of one another, then he does not. Let’s leave it at that 😉

  10. Sundays are the best, not just for the family time but because of family AND Walking Dead! Have you been watching the Fear Fest on AMC? They’ve been showing all the Halloweens, Friday the 13ths, Tremors, Omens, etc. It’s like no matter when you turn it on, something good is on. It was a real blast from the past to watch some of these that I repeatedly obsessed over in high school. I think you will love Five Days at Memorial. It is horrifying HORRIFYING stuff, and so much to discuss. Catch up with you on FB about last night…

    1. I really screwed up my horror movie viewing. I pulled all the movies out and told myself to start watching them but I did not and now it’s going to be difficult to get my required watching in (Halloween 1 & 2, The Shining, Friday the 13th). It’s just impossible for me to do with The Girl hanging around. She has nightmares and won’t even watch a Walking Dead commercial and yet…she likes to dress up like a monster when she can.

I saw the stuff on AMC being advertised. I’d like a day just to watch them all.

Five Days at Memorial. I can’t believe that stuff actually happened.

  11. I like Sundays too, mostly because all those errands are done and we can just chill. me with the book, hubby with the football on tv, and the girl with whatever she wants to do at that moment.

    1. You will find this funny, right after I posted about reflecting and regrouping, I remembered that The Teen was performing at the Daniel Pearl Memorial and had to go to the performance. It went on for quite awhile so my REST time was non-existent but the performance was great.

Maybe I will do better this Sunday. You think?

  12. Yeah I think Walking Dead is a bit gruesome for kids eh? I can’t believe it’s on TV sometimes. But this Sunday …. Beth is back. What happened to her??!
