We finally hit the beach this weekend! Just a quick trip to our fave beach with plans to hangout, soak up some sun, read a little and then hit our fave Mexican restaurant on the way home.
We did all that, but it actually rained on us while at the beach. It was sunny and perfect and then the clouds blew in. It wasn’t a hard rain and man, we sure needed it but it got too cold for The Girl so we packed it up and headed out.
We are all trying to make the most of this weekend as this is the beginning of production week for Grease. All week long, The Girl has extended rehearsals and lots of last minute work to do before the show starts on Friday. We get to see the show Saturday night. We can’t wait.
I’d like to thank all of you for voting for me in that Murkami contest. The contest isn’t over but I can’t complete with click farms and cheaters so I’ve stopped promoting it. I really want that signed Murkami book but I am not going to resort to cheating to win it. I am all grouchy about it. I hate cheaters.
What am I reading?
I started The Martian this past week. Too many mathematical equations in the beginning almost turned me away from it for good. I am liking it more now, but still kind of wondering about all of the hype.
I finished The Regulators. What a strange story. It’s King though so I shouldn’t be surprised. I liked it, but it surprised me a little with where it went.
What am I cooking?
After all of the snacks and Mexican food we enjoyed yesterday, we are keeping it simple tonight with some grilled chicken and salad.
What am I watching?
I watched the first episode of The Strain and boy, they weren’t kidding when they said it was graphic. I am liking it so far, much more than Under the Dome which bombed for me.
I didn’t really get to see any movies this weekend besides Better Off Dead. Long live 80s movies. Remember that one? Silly, but fun.
I had to rush through this post because my wireless access has crashed THREE times while writing it and I’ve lost about three versions of it already so if it seems a little abbreviated, that’s why.
What have YOU been up to this weekend?
That thing with the signed book really pisses me off. Why even freaking bother, you know? And we loved The Strain. We are ramping up tonight to watch Episode Two. I’m trying to read it and get out ahead of it…getting confused about what I have read and what I have watched! We went to the county fair today, a farm thing that we don’t have in FL. Good luck on Grease!
I am still sore over the whole voting debacle. I mean, on my end I can’t prove a thing but come on. Anyway, the fair… love the fair. Of course last year we went and it was like 110 outside with all of those BBQ stands blowing hot air my way. I thought I was going to pass out!
This time around, production week should be a little more manageable. Only 80 kids in this production and a much smaller venue. I think it will be fun and I am dying to see The Girl in her first teen show.

What happened with the Murakami contest? I think I missed something. I’m sorry it didn’t take an honest route. Why don’t the people running it call it off so not even the cheaters win in a case like that?? It’s not fair to honest contestants.
Maybe you can meet him at a book signing if he does a tour here.
Glad you enjoyed your weekend!
I’m going to keep voting even if it is hopeless. It still really ticks me off. I know they could come up with a better way to handle it.
Thanks Kathy. I continue to vote too just so I don’t look like a total loser but I feel bad about the whole thing because so many of you have voted and pushed as much as I have if not more!

Stick with the martian…i thought the same with the technical stuff but i cried twice and since my copy was a library book i will buy the paperback when it comes out. It would make a great movie too. It is one of my top 3 for the year too
I am a little over half way done with it now and the math stuff is pretty much over with. I am going to stick with it. It seems to be a fast read too, which helps.

We still have not hit the beach. I’m still promoting it for your contest win…I’m holding out hope…I always vote for an underdog…even when there are cheaters! I hate that. I am so glad you had some time to finish up The Strain! I loved that first episode…cannot wait to watch the next one. Under the Dome is eh at the moment for me.
Thanks for continuing to vote. I vote for myself just because, but I don’t want to push others to do it when there is no hope of winning. I am not even in the top five now. I think some of the others have figured out the loopholes as well.
The beach was really nice but it was weird for it to be raining. No mention of rain before we went and it was just enough to make the Girl cold and of course we had no sweatshirts. We put up for it for awhile because we had a tent shelter thingy, but the wind kicked up.
So, we walked around town. I got a root beer float and we hit some antique stores but the cool little bookstore I visit when there was closed!

Even being rained on at the beach is still fun…right? We moved furniture around…all week end…but before we moved it…we had to look for it and buy it! Lol!
Furniture? For what room? I would love to get some new pieces for the living room. Our couch is too puffy for the space.

That totally sucks about the Murakami contest! UGH! I’m still voting for you – I have been every day. My fingers are crossed, because you never know, right? Either way, we are reading that book come August and I can’t wait 😉 And, who doesn’t love Better Off Dead? I love those Cusack movies from the 80s. That’s a good one 😉
I am still voting too but made the decision to stop pushing it because it’s kind of a pain for people and to do it with no chance of me winning? Makes me sad. But thank you. I guess you never can know how it will go. They could give us all a book but I doubt it since they were so reserved with the ARCs.
Those Cusack movies from the 80s are the best. I need to find a copy of The Sure Thing. I do not care for Say Anything though. It was so depressing and that Ione Sky… ugh. I could not stand her in the role.

Gah, cheaters! I saw you were at the forefront when you started promoting it so it’s such a bummer to see some cheating going on. On the plus side, all your votes are legit and you such a huge follower base voting for you!
I need to get back to the Martian. I had stopped reading it a while back when my road trip ended with the book half-done.
I recently finished The Strain (book) and I’m waiting until the season is over to watch all the episodes (I can’t take the suspense from week to week). I just got The Martian from the library too, so thanks for the heads up that I might not get into it in the first few pages 🙂
I am glad you made it to the beach! We haven’t been this year, and I’m not sure we will make it.
That’s too bad about the contest. 😦 Yours really is the best. I am still voting for you every day, nonetheless.
I have been hearing good things about The Martian. I hope you like it.
I decided on The Ghost Bride by Yangsze Choo after going back and forth about what to read after my last read. So far I am enjoying it.
I hope you have a great week!
Aw…thanks for continuing to vote. I just didn’t want to be a pest about it anymore. I am voting daily just so that I don’t look like a total loser.

The Martian is weighted down with the technical. Totally gets excessive, but if they trim that out of the movie version than it might be pretty cool.
You think the movie version will be a hit after Gravity? It’s sort of the same premise but dealing with a different planet.
