What is it about weekends? We wait for them all week long and then before we know it, they’ve passed us by. I had a little stress this past week to deal with so the weekend could not come soon enough.
The Girl’s track meet on Saturday was great. A little long, but fun even though I was freezing the entire time I was there. I. Could. Not. Get. Warm. I had a jacket on, a blanket AND a tent shelter thingy and it took all night for my body to feel warm again. It’s fun to sit up in the stands with the other parents though, cheering our kids on. It’s been a great season.

This morning, we went to church and it was a really great service. After church, The Teen had to go to a dress rehearsal for The Drowsy Chaperone. The show is this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. We can’t wait to see it. It’s going to be quite entertaining with him tap dancing and roller skating his way through the show.
The rest of this week will be filled with more rehearsals, more track practices and I believe my book club meets this Thursday. I have yet to finish the book!
What am I reading?
As I mentioned above, I still haven’t finished my book club book (And the Mountains Echoed). I have to finish it this week but I am not looking forward to it. Still reading A Wild Sheep Chase. I am having a little trouble with it. I tend to read it at night and I cannot seem to keep my eyes open, or I’ll read a chapter and not remember what I just read. So I have been going back and forth which is taking me a lot longer than I anticipated.
What am I cooking?
I wanted something simple for tonight but I ending up making a real mess of the kitchen. I hate when that happens. I roasted some chicken, mashed some potatoes and we had it with corn and roasted carrots.
What am I watching?
My daughter and I started up with Lost again. We are on Season 1 and we just finished Episode 17. Now, we are watching Mean Girls. She loves that movie.
Hope you had a nice weekend and for those that participated in the read-a-thon, I hope you got to sleep in.
weekends go even faster when you make them longer and take a trip to see family. lol
No sleep for me! It just never ends, whether it is on the weekend or during the week. Woke up this morning almost feeling ill I’m so tired. Gotta get back into a normal routine. I love organized sports, but frankly I’m ready for a break, aren’t you? And the Mountains Echoed…listened to it on audio, and I wasn’t blown away. I didn’t like the narrators (could barely understand them) but beyond that, it just didn’t have the punch that his previous books had. Our book club read it too, and it was a mixed reaction.
I thought we were done with track with this last meet but I was told she is in JV finals which is all day this Saturday. Also the same day/night we plan to see The Teen’s show so I hope the events are done by 4 or so. I am ready for a break but once she is done with this, she immediately fills with Grease rehearsals. However, The Teen will be done for awhile now.
I was woken last night by The Girl. I think our marathon watching of Lost gave her nightmares but after scaring the hell out of me, by hovering over me while I slept, she went back to bed without argument. I really do need to get that bell for her doorknob. I’m not sure if she was awake or asleep but a bell would at least worn me. I bought it ages ago and have yet to hang it. You know it’s crazy when you can’t even get a bell hung.

One of the things I miss most from the kids being in jr high/high school is hanging out with other parents at field hockey, volleyball, basketball, and softball. Both in gyms and freezing in the fields, we had a great time.
Be thankful you aren’t listening to And the Mountains Echoed. I could hardly understand the narrators, so gave up and bought the hardcover. I really liked it, just not quite as much as his earlier books.
I would have liked Mountains better had the author stayed with the one family and not covered many generations. With each generation they became less likable as a family.
Oh! I have such fun shooting the breeze with the track parents. Such a good group of people.

You LOOK cold! I haven’t read And The Mountains Echoed, but I’ve heard petty different opinions, so it sounds like it would be a good book club pick. Wondering if you’re still reading A Farm Dies Once a Year like your sidebar says? That one sounds so interesting!
I just started the farm book. I feel as if I have to finish this Mountain book first just to be done with it. I really don’t know what our club will discuss. It’s sort of flat.

Weekends fly by much too fast for my liking. As for the Murakami, I know what you mean. If I’m not focused on his writing then I have to re-read what I just read. I usually get lost in his words, but sometimes when I have too much on the brain I can’t seem to get into his work. Hope you finish your book club book! And, I hope you have a great week 🙂
Week ends fly by…no matter what! I am sort of laughing at you freezing in warm sunny CA…have fun at the show!
Hope this week has been less stressful so far and that you get a chance to breathe.
