The Sunday Salon: Still Here!

Sunday Salon

What a week! After The Teen’s birthday, we followed it up with the extraction of his wisdom teeth (all four). We really know how to celebrate in this house! Don’t we? We’ve spent the entire weekend watching movies so he can get some rest and recover.

He’s doing great. Very little pain and swelling. But today he was getting a little antsy so we hit the mall for a short shopping trip. Back to school shopping was in full swing so we beat it out of there as soon as we could.

The Girl, God bless her, is frustrated because she’s tall enough for some of the pre-teen clothing, but she swims in most things and the smaller kid’s section is just too small for her. She’s right smack in-between sizes. I’m not sure what we are going to do as she is in need of everything this year.

What am I reading?

I am still reading House of Leaves but I got sucked into The Never List and I am almost done with Reconstructing Amelia. I just haven’t been in the mood to read too much and I have about four reviews I need to write-up. I seem to work in spurts and lately, my energy has gone to cleaning the house (sad).

What am I cooking?

I made really, really good spaghetti and meatballs last night. It was so yummy, that we may enjoy them again tonight. Why not?

What am I watching?

Let’s see. We watched Happy Gilmore (not a fave), Stand by Me and Vacation yesterday. And today, seeing that we just got home from the mall, we settled down to watch Meet the Parents. Not sure what else we’ll see after this. I hate that The Teen is incapacitated but it’s been nice to spend the weekend with him on the couch.

How has your Sunday been so far?

  1. We just stayed home and had a big breakfast and sat on the deck and read…but I am not in a reading mood today…at all!

  2. So Happy Gilmore must be one of The Teen’s favorites, I’m guessing? I do like Stand by Me and Vacation, though.

Our Sunday has been good so far. I’ve spent it mostly reading, of course. Got some mowing done, and now we’re watching My Name Is Earl. It’s about all we can take anymore. 🙂

  3. I cleaned out our deep freeze today, but my middle daughter is on Day 3 of some stomach bug and has been on the couch all day! She has had me read to her, but I haven’t found much time for my own pleasure reading. Maybe this evening…

We will be doing some back to school shopping ourselves soon. My oldest daughter continues to want to squeeze into an 8, and not move up to a 10. I don’t think she understands that it is ok if kids move up sizes, but I’m not crazy about moving up a size as an adult. This leads to some rather tense shopping moments.

    1. I hope your daughter is feeling better. I have had such a trying week that I haven’t been by to say Hi but I hope to be caught up this weekend.

  4. It was very rainy here until about 4PM, so I finished a book and lingered over the NYTimes. Once it cleared up, we were able to eat dinner outside. All in all, a pretty nice day.

Will look forward to your review of Reconstructing Amelia. I’ve been wanting to read it.

  5. Phew, House of Leaves is a big read. I struggled through it in early college and have wanted to revisit it, I have a sense I might enjoy it more now. At that point I was too distracted by school to really get into it. As a former 6th grade teacher, I know that you’re not the only parent struggling to find the right size clothes! They seem to sprout up pretty quickly, though 🙂

  6. We stayed home mostly, did a bit of running around…had some take out and watched a few movies, but the laundry seems to be taking forever….still drying as I type this, but I’m really enjoying Beth Kephart’s memoir writing book right now.

    1. I told him it was nice that he was bedridden because he actually spends time with us. He didn’t like the comment.

  7. I don’t have ANY problem eating the same delicious meal two nights in a row, but it usually roused comment from the peanut gallery! My energy hasn’t gone into writing reviews or cleaning house, but I’m reading Stewart O’Nan’s Wish You Were Here, which is good for summer reading. All I need is a lake house with a porch and it would be perfect,

  8. Oh your poor son! Wisdom teeth yanking is not a birthday celebration. But it’s done, yay! I had all 4 yanked at one time, too. It wasn’t any worse than yanking just one… Relaxing and watching movies is a good way to recover…did you see any really good?

Back to school shopping already? Wow, time flies. How frustrating for your daughter…some research on-line might help you find some good clothes for her.

Good thing I didn’t know what you were serving for dinner last night…spaghetti & meatballs is one of my very favorites & certainly worthy of a cross-country plane ride :o)

I hope you have a good week, Ti!

  9. Ok, not a nice present having to have your wisdom teeth out right after your birthday. I’m glad he’s doing well. I can just imagine how frustrated your daughter is.

Good luck with your reading. I’ll be watching for your thoughts on Reconstructing Amelia because I have that one on audio.

  10. Looks like you’ve been having a rough sort of week. Happy belated birthday to The Teen!! So sorry he has to go through the wisdom teeth removal – I will know in a few weeks if I need to remove mine, but they have never bugged me so I hope not. Hope you had a better following week!
