The Sunday Salon: A Nice Long Weekend

Sunday Salon

Today is the last day of my four-day weekend and it’s been wonderful. Yesterday, Concerts in the Park kicked off and we rocked out to Queen Nation. My entire family loves Queen. I had no complaints from anyone about going. You know how it is with teens sometimes, but as soon as we got there, The Boy hooked up with friends and everyone was happy.

The Hub estimates that there were about 25K in attendance. I am horrible at guessing such things but there were tons of people for sure. I love our town because it has all the modern conveniences yet maintains that small town feel. I love it when the community comes together to enjoy these concerts. It’s such a treat and I always see faces that I haven’t seen in ages. So nice.

Today, I am moving some stuff around in anticipation of our switch to U-verse next week and a trip to the mall is needed for a few things but other than that, we’re just kicking back today.

What am I reading?

I am reading Marisha Pessl’s Night Film. Oh my goodness. It is wonderful and creepy and I can’t seem to put it down It’s a chunkster but I am  really into it and trying to make it last as long as possible. I am also reading Heading Out to Wonderful by Robert Goolrick. It’s also very good but in a completely different way than Night Film.

What am I cooking?

I like to cook-up something good on Sunday but I haven’t hit the market, nor do I want to so I’m not sure what we are having later. The Boy has to go to a dance rehearsal for a friend’s Quinceañera so he won’t be home anyway.

What am I watching?

Over the weekend, The Girl saw Jaws for the first time. She loved it but was very sad for the dog that never returned and wait for it…the shark! That’s my animal lover. Right now, I am sitting here watching Roseanne. It’s wrong that I love that show so much. Later, I need to catch-up with episode 2 of Under the Dome. I hope it gets better because it’s sort of sucky right now.

What are you doing today?

  1. Queen Nation sounds tres cool. Glad you all had fun.

So just because The Boy isn’t home doesn’t mean you’re going to cook? 🙂

Is that a rare photo of The Hub in the bottom photo? Again 🙂

As for me, I’m chilling in the a/c here. I’m sure it’s not as warm as it is out there, but it’s still warm enough.

    1. Nope. That is just some random guy. It was the view from my chair. The Hub was there but he’s not a fan of pics.

And I am not cooking because there is no food in the house and I don’t wanna hit the market 😉

  2. Your four days sounded awesome. We are inside because it is so hot and humid that it s oppressive outside…seriously!

I want to love the “dome” .but…we hated the second episode…grilling steaks to have with salad tonight…watermelon…crisp and cool for dessert!

  3. there is achannel here that plays older tv shows over and over and over. when roseann was on I recorded all the episodes. rather than it being wrong for liking it, it should be wrong for NOT liking it 🙂

    1. I am still not sure about Under the Dome on TV. There are just too many things that don’t work for me. I did enjoy episode 2 a little better than episode 1 so I will watch another to see how it pans out. The book was just so darn good.

  4. Man, that sounds like an impressive turnout for the concert! Glad you had fun. Awesome to have so many things happen over the summer!

    1. I was telling my husband that it’s a chore to pack up the cooler and haul all the chairs and blankets from the parking lot that is way, way far away but once you get there, it’s usually worth it 🙂

  5. What a great weekend! I love community events like that 🙂 Our little town throws such a great celebration on the 4th. We don’t have a lot of the conveniences of bigger cities but those small town events make up for that. Sorta, lol. My teen son ditched me as soon as we got to our town picnic as well. Darn kids 😉

    Have a great week!

    1. Those darn teens 🙂 My son’s alternative was to stay home and work on summer school work and he still balked at coming to the concert (at first). Thank goodness his friends were there!

    1. The Boy has been invited to be in two of them so far. He has to take dance lessons for like… 4 months leading up to it!

  6. Queen is totally awesome and now I am very jealous you got to enjoy a concert in the park listening to Queen songs! Even better that the whole family had fun; it is definitely a rare occurrence as the kids get older.

Enjoy NIGHT FILM. I am also jealous of anyone who was able to get a copy of it in advance. I tried so hard, I was ashamed of myself. LOL!

    Have a good week!

    1. It’s rare that my entire family happens to love Queen, too! My daughter listened to Queen in my car back and forth from daycare when she was just a little baby!

  7. Sounds like a fun weekend. We’ve been Under the Doming and my husband is really into it. I think it is ok.

    Have a great week.

    1. Did your Hub read Dome? I’m curious because my Hub thinks the show is pretty good but he hasn’t read the book. I think it is borderline cheesy and I am tired of the lousy special effects already but now he’s into it!

  8. The concert sounds like fun – enough people to be a fun crowd but not so many that it’s chaos.

    1. I live right by a lake and last year was the first time we went to a movie on the lake and it was so much fun! I can’t believe that was my first time visiting the lake and I have lived here for over 20 years!
