For me, summer starts Memorial Day weekend and guess what? We are already there! Hard to believe, but it’s true. This summer, my list is all over the place. I never use these lists as a hard and fast rule for anything because I am easily influenced by Net Galley, Edelweiss, other book blogs and what shows up on the “New Books” shelf at my local library. However, these are the books that I hope to read this summer. Not your typical beach fare but I like the heavier stuff anyway and I have always, always wanted to read Jaws. I plan to read that one while sitting on the beach, slathered in Coppertone with the book in one hand and a tuna fish sandwich in the other.

I really want to read Wild! And girl, you are a glutton for punishment to read Jaws this summer! Ha! I remember reading that one in high school. Not a bad read, really. I have no clue what I am doing this summer. Probably attached the big stack of books on my nightstand and in my Kindle.
I am not rigid with my lists but it’s fun to make them and puts me in the right mindset. If I don’t do it. suddenly the season has passed me and I feel cheated or something. It’s all psycho babble. I just came back from working out and my brain is spongy.
Love the list and the sandwich…checking them out…I have the Harold Fry book…aren’t you impressed or even shocked?
Are you on the Harold Fry tour? I am, for July sometime. Have to check my calendar again.

Now I want to draw up a summer list too, though that will only mean that I will not get to those books lol. I will be reading Harold Fry for sure. I want to read Norwegian Wood too. Maybe I should do a Murakami season.
If you do an entire season of Murakami and Wind-Up Bird is one of the books, let me know. I still have yet to read that one and that’s the one he is most known for!
I’ll let you know. As of now, I’m not sure. I’m definitely craving some Murakami. Wind-Up Bird Chronicle is one of the books I’m thinking of in addition to Norwegian Wood.
Ti, great list of books to be read! I want to read the Irving, Murakami, Strayed and Smith ones – they look so good! Can’t believe that summer is nigh – yay! Reading your list makes me want to write my own list – the only problem with that is that I never follow my lists, because I buy new books that aren’t on it and the ones on the list fall to the wayside. So, I’m going to play it by ear and see what catches my eye 🙂 Plus, I’m going to join some reading challenges, so that will definitely determine what I read, too. You should join the Japanese LIterature Challenge 6, since you are reading the Murakami – you only have to read 1 book to fulfill the challenge (talk about easy!). Think about it! Ciao!
I hardly ever stick to my lists but I LOVE making them! I am horrible at challenges. As soon as I sign-up for one, I no longer want to read the books. LOL.

I don’t keep many physical books so I don’t have too many staring me in the face. I do have some from Net Galley and Edelweiss that need to be read, but only about 8 titles or so. Not too bad. Plenty of room for other distractions. LOL.
This is a very eclectic and wonderful mix of books to begin the summer with, and I also have some very specific summer reading plans that involve a LOT of Hilary Mantel. In between, I will be reading a few new books as well, and some historical fiction that I have been waiting to get to for such a long time. I love your pans for reading Jaws. That’s the way it needs to be read!
Talk to me about Mantel. I tried to read Wolf Hall and just could not get into it! For that reason, I turned down an ARC of her new book. Too many characters for me to keep straight and I know little about that time so my own historical knowledge of that time is useless.
I can’t make lists because always, something comes in the mail or in the library and takes me in a new direction. But I very much admire your organization and planning! :–)

Memorial Day weekend always gets me pumped for summer reading. Long lazy days filled with a great book and a cold drink are perfect! Yates is always a good choice in my opinion. I’m also hoping to read some Murakami. Kafka on the Shore has been sitting on my shelf way too long.
Kafka is such a fun book. For the first 50 pages, things seem a bit strange but then you are hooked.
I’m excited about the Harold Fry, and I also cannot believe it’s Memorial Day weekend. YEA!!!!
Love the list, and your Jaws reading is hilarious. I’ve never really had the desire to read it but will be curious to see what you think. I’ve got a lot on this weekend, but I definitely plan some down time for reading. 🙂
I know! Jaws sounds like a funny read for me but my friend said that it’s all about the shark and his motive. Not so sure but then I heard the same thing after I finished The Tiger by John Vaillant. Another reviewer said they were similar. So I am thinking it’s a bit deeper than just naked girls getting eaten alive. Well, I certainly hope so! LOL.
Just not feeling the summer love yet here in Seattle. While we had gorgeous weather for most of this month, the return to gray and showery weather has returned. Sadly, I have not even broken out the summer clothes yet and Sam is not out of school until June 20th! I have not clicked on your book links yet, but they do look to be on the heavy side and totally what I would expect from you. 🙂 I am thinking my summer list will be more of the light-hearted type, considering how heavy life has been around here this spring. I do have Sophie Kinsella on my Kindle that I keep meaning to get around to, but other than that, my list is unknown. Have a super weekend Ti!

I guess I am an oddity. When my life is hectic, I read heavier stuff because it puts things in perspective for me. If their lives are so bad off… makes mine seem like a breeze! LOL.
I am drawn to the hevier books, too. But, my summer plans include Mieville’s The City and The City and maybe, just maybe, I will begin a Harry Potter adventure. I can’t remember if I read book one, so I am starting at the beginning.
Mieville intimidates me a little. He has a new one available on Edelweiss (if I am remembering correctly) but I passed on it.
All of these look great Ti! The only ones I am sure of reading are An American Family and The World We Found. I don’t have too many schedule reviews planned for the summer so I plan to get a few “fun” books in there too!
I totally forgot about the Umrigar book. Hmmm.
I’ve read a lot of great things about WILD…I may have to buy it even though my plan for summer was/is to clear off some of my TBR 😛 I read Jaws a loong time ago but remember it as being incredible…much better than the mechanical shark movie, of course 🙂
Wild just seems like the perfect adventure book to read over the summer. Have you ever read Bryson’s A Walk in the Woods? It’s hilarious!!

I read Jaws in my freshman English class in college. I remember it being pretty good. I recently posted a list of books I wanted to read this summer, and now I’m trying to put together a pile of books to bring camping with me in July.
