The Sunday Salon: Short & Sweet

Sunday Salon

This past Friday we celebrated The Girl’s 8th birthday. All she wanted was for her friend to sleepover so I took the day off and we had a full day of fun. We saw Dolphin Tale, which was actually pretty good, went out to lunch and then came back home to more movies, more snacks (gosh these girls can eat!) and the Otter Pup behaved herself! I was worried because she’s been a little bit of a pill with little kids lately.

Saturday, when her friend went home, I collapsed on the couch and drank three cups of coffee. Whew! Then I made tacos and read The Map of Time. I am not that far into it yet, but H.G. Wells trying to save classic literature? Love the premise. We’ll see if it pans out.

Today, The Girl wants to pick-up her birthday cupcake from Barnes & Noble so that means bookstore browsing for me! I probably won’t buy anything because I am going to be getting The Marriage Plot & 1Q84 pretty soon, but who knows? It’s hard to leave a bookstore without a book. Nearly impossible for me.

Have a wonderful Sunday and for those of you who answered my question about reading…thanks so much for taking the time to post. So many wonderful responses. If you haven’t had a chance to respond, please do, but at least read the responses. They’ll make you feel good. I promise!

I hope you all have a wonderful Sunday. It’s sunny and clear here and just gorgeous out. I couldn’t ask for a nicer day.

  2. Happy Birthday to The Girl! Sounds like she had a great day! ANd since you’re getting to a bookstore today it sounds like another good day!

I have Map of Time here but haven’t read it yet…I’m interested in what your thoughts are about it I guess I should give it a try!

You purchased The Marriage Plot and 1Q84? I’m considering doing so!
    Enjoy your day!

  3. Happy Birthday to your little girl! I know that I would be glad to stop for a birthday cupcake and a browse at the bookstore! I will be interested in finding out if anything managed to find it’s way home with you! I am also glad to hear you are enjoying The Map of Time. I hope to be getting to it soon!

  4. Happy Birthday to The Girl. I don’t think I’ve ever gone into a bookstore and come out with nothing. I just can’t resist coming home with a new book. I hope you have a great Sunday!

  5. Happy Birthday to the Girl! sounds like a great way to spend a birthday and I hope you made it out of B&N without too many new reads!!!

  6. So just beware – Map of Time was SO not what I was expecting but while interesting just wait until the last book (around 500 pages in) and it so rounded it out and mad it an eh book to a “ok pretty darn cool” book.

    Happy birthday to your girl!

  7. Well, next time you think wander into a bookstore and decide you don’t need another book, you can always buy one for me. 😉
(did you actually not get anything?!)

    1. When I got to the bookstore, I decided I’d get my book club book for March (I know, so far away!) but they didn’t have it in stock. It’s The Quickening Maze by Foulds. I then got distracted by a special edition of Breakfast at Tiffany’s but then walked out empty handed.

Oh, and I forgot to buy The Marriage Plot for my Kindle!
