The Sunday Salon: Catching Up…Slowly

The Sunday Salon

My reading list is out of control. I posted about it here. In an attempt to catch-up, I have been a reading fool. Reading requires time, so this post is going to be brief and actually, it will just be a list of random things. Because to be honest, random is all I can muster right now.

  1. I am reading Let the Great World Spin and it’s not at all what I thought it was (and I mean that in a good way).
  2. Kids are expensive. Every time I go out with them, I end up shelling out cash. What’s the solution though? To become a hermit?
  3. I just saw The Blind Side and I cried a few times. It’s been awhile since I’ve cried during a movie. It felt good.
  4. My son fits into adult clothes from H&M now. Cool.
  5. I will be starting two books this week (Legend of a Suicide and The Passage).
  6. My book club meets this Thursday. We are discussing First They Killed My Father, which I reviewed here. I haven’t been able to go to book club for a couple of months so it will be nice to see everyone. Hopefully it will be a good discussion.
  7. The Nook is looking more appealing to me now since its recent upgrade.
  8. Employers should allow pajamas in the workplace.
  9. Read-alongs are a lot of fun.
  10. Is it Friday yet?

Off to read more of Let The Great World Spin.

  1. Ti, I know what you mean! My TBR list just keeps growing and growing and I just keep adding to it. I can’t help it! There just seem to be so many good books out there lately.

I loved The Blind Side – what a great movie! I cried, too!

I totally agree with you that read-alongs are a lot of fun. I enjoyed doing that with The Brothers Karamazov – I think it helped me get through that book.

I’m lusting after the kindle. Haven’t heard much about the nook. Will check it out.

Have a great week and enjoy your reads this week!!

  2. Sounds like you are busy, Ti! I just finished Let The Great World Spin and I liked it quite a bit. I was just planning to sit down this morning to write a review…which I can’t post until the end of the month because I’m touring the book…I’ll look forward to reading your review!

  3. I haven’t had a chance to see Blindside yet, but I do hope to. I am glad you liked it, Ti.

I wish it were Friday. And I wish employers did allow us to wear pajamas to work. Especially if they expect us to come in before the sun comes out.

I hope you have a great week, Ti!

  4. I love your list. You sound like me. How can I take the kids out to a movie and lunch and have it cost $100? I LOVED Let the Great World Spin. I gave it 6 stars out of 5 (ha). It touched my heart like nothing has in awhile, even The Blind Side!

  5. Sometimes we all need a good cry from a movie! I was hoping to finish Black Hills this weekend but I wasn’t even able to read one page! Yikes…I guess I can hope to get it completed by this weekend. I hope you like The Passage. I don’t think I will get to that one til next month.

  6. Kids are expensive!!! I think we should get more of a tax break for them since they consume like 40% of the household income!

  7. B&N really impressed me with the recent Nook upgrades, and now I’m loving my Nook even more. I’m still envious of the iPad’s page flipping capabilities, though.

  8. Yes, kids are expensive, and sometimes the expenses don’t stop when they have been living on their own for 10+ years either LOL

BTW: I’m with you waiting for the weekend already; working M-F sucks, even if you like your job like me…LOL

  9. i always knew that kids would suck my life blood AND my bank account…that’s why i only have a nephew. 🙂

hope you enjoy your book club; i read your book review and the book sounds like it will inspire some great conversation.

  10. Wait! You’re excited about paying for adult priced clothing? I hated when I had to make that jump for clothes that were hardly any bigger.

    1. The key word here is H&M. They are super cheap and nice stuff too. He got a really nice suit for graduation and it was $50 and it’s the modern Jonas Bros knock off suit. Sort of Beatle-ish. In other words cool. Normally I am not jazzed about the bump but him being able to shop there is going to save me from Tilly’s hell where a pair of pants costs $60!

  11. I’m glad I’m not the only one who’s TBR is out of control 🙂

Sounds like you have a fun week planned with a book club though!

  12. I’ll be interested to hear what you think of the Legend of Suicide. I haven’t read it, but saw it on the shelf at the bookstore the other day and thought it looked intriguing.
