The Sunday Salon: It’s Fall but not Really

Last week we had two steady days of rain and rain out here is a huge deal because we never get rain and we’re in a terrible drought. However, yesterday was 98 degrees and today is supposed be right around 85 0r so. I’ve been doing everything to convince myself that the season has indeed changed though. I got some of the Halloween stuff out. I made a delicious Carribean Pumpkin Coconut soup for a book review that I am doing. I will share the recipe if the publisher allows it. I have pumpkin bread in the oven, Swedish meatballs in the Crock Pot and I have been drinking spiced apple cider as if it’s going out of style. It’s not working though, it still feels like Summer here!

Last night I pulled out all of the books that I plan to read for the 24-Hour Read-a-Thon. I’ll post the list tomorrow but it was hard to decide and I don’t think that I stuck to my rule of “keep them short.” How many times did your list change before you actually posted it? Mine has changed three times!

I got to sleep in until 9am this morning which is totally unheard of! My son got into trouble yesterday and he offered to get up with his sis this morning. He made her breakfast and they were watching a movie when I stumbled down the stairs. The Hub is at work so we may hit yet another Halloween store to buy more stuff for the house. My little one is really into Halloween this year and she wants more stuff to put on the house. We are actually going to a Halloween party on the night of Halloween so I don’t want to get too much stuff since we won’t even be here.

This past week was sort of a slow reading week for me. I finished and reviewed The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo (loved it) and I just finished Of Bees and Mist last night and will probably post the review on Tuesday. I also posted another Confessions of a Reader post. Thanks to all who participated. Right now I am going to pull the pumpkin bread out of the oven, have another glass of spiced cider, take a shower and begin my day.

I just started some chili in the crockpot. I think I’ll make pumpkin bread this week. Now if we can just keep this cooler weather.

98 degrees yesterday…send some my way. it’s 40. cold, rainy, windy and raw. I’m nesting with apple turnovers cooking right now…LOL

It’s gorgeous here today! I plan to hide in the basement and sew right through it, but I shouldn’t. I managed to pawn the older child off on a friend and the baby just FINALLY crashed so I have to use my ME time wisely!

We had 99 yesterday; 95 expected today. So I would take your 85! Still, fall in theory is okay with me. I made a pumpkin cobbler yesterday, and that spiced apple cider sounds like a great idea!

I’m feeling your pain in the heat department. Actually we had the cold front come through, so we went from high 90’s to the low 70’s. Ahhhh! I may even go for a walk! Hot weather be damned, we’ll just force the fall to happen by baking alot of pumpkin things!

Did you get the humidity, too? It was miserably sticky here Thursday and Friday.

I love pumpkin bread…that sounds so good.

It was a lot cooler today than yesterday, thankfully!! But I’ve been trying to force fall feelings around here too, in much the same way as you.. with the Halloween decorations and the baking. It’s not working that well. We’re still in flip flops and tank tops.

I wish the rain would come inland. 😦 Your Carribean Pumpkin Coconut soup sounds delicious, Ti! I’ve been craving all things pumpkin lately. Must be the season.

I’m so glad you were able to sleep in this morning. It’s so rare that I do. The animals take turns making sure I’m up as early as can be.

Wow, it sure is hot by you….I’d be glad to send some cooler temps! It’s in the 40’s here and goes below freezing temps at night but we haven’t had snow yet. All of your fall food sounds wonderful! Enjoy.

Sleeping until 9 am is my definition of a good time!

We had rain and SNOW today! We had flurries last week, but this stuff is sticking – yuck!

I can’t imagine sleeping until 9, I don’t think my body would do it. So sweet about your kids; he really took care of her and made up for whatever the infraction was 🙂

Pumpkin Bread. YUM!! It looks fallish here, but has been on the warm side for most of the weekend. I think it is finally cooling down this evening. I am hoping to finalize my book choices for next weekend, this evening. I will be posting them then and I am sure they will probably change over the course of the week!

I got to sleep in a lot over the weekend (and got a nap too – I don’t know why I was so tired) because we were at my in-laws and they get up early with the kids when we are there.

That does sound like hot weather for fall. Up here in Oregon we’ve definitely made the transition to fall weather. Today we’re going to the pumpkin patch, so hopefully that gets me more in the mood for Halloween.
