Sunday Salon: Prepping, Cooking, Eating Edition

Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday. I’ve been cooking Thanksgiving dinner since I was about 21 years-old and it’s the one time of the year where I cook with abandon and don’t worry about calories or the amount of fat being consumed. I used to cook for a very large group but these days, it’s just my immediate family and it’s lovely!! The day before I chop and prep while watching episodes of Absolutely Fabulous and Thanksgiving is spent watching movies, being lazy and then serving a lovely dinner. I have to work Monday but then I am off through the following Monday so I will have seven full days of heaven and hopefully lots of leftovers!

What about Black Friday you ask? Well, Black Friday is a tradition that my friend and I have. We have breakfast and then hit the stores but we don’t do the early, early stuff. We plan to see New Moon after, but it depends on how wiped out we are or how long the lines are. I need to get my list together.

That said, my food shopping is all done and I am cooking meals for the early part of the week so that I don’t have to be rushing around on my days off. The kids will be in school so I should able spend some time with my long, lost friends…BOOKS!

Tomorrow (Monday) I am hosting our first Moby Dick Monday update. You can read about it here and please join in if you are at all compelled to do so. Quite a few people have joined us since the initial post and I have to say that it’s been much more pleasant doing this with company.

Tomorrow I am also a TLC tour stop for Saving Sammy which was a very interesting read considering my health issues of late.

Today I have more Moby Dick to read and then perhaps I will finish Her Fearful Symmetry. What are you reading right now?

The Sunday Salon: The Leaves are Falling

Sunday Salon

I woke up this morning to a beautiful day. It’s sunny, the sky is blue but it’s cold and windy for California. This wind has taken care of the few leaves left on the trees and it’s finally beginning to feel like fall around here. Nothing’s worse than cooking a turkey in 100 degree weather and let me tell you, it has happened many, many times. Hopefully the cooler weather will stick.

I am in a pretty good mood today. I got my car back from the body shop! I am so glad to be back in my own car. I am also looking forward to Moby Dick Monday which starts tomorrow! This is where a handful of bloggers read four pages of Moby Dick each day and will post about it each Monday. Another blogger suggested that we divide it up by chapters but that would be entirely too organized for me so we’ll stick with the four pages. Of course, you can read more than that per day but four pages seems doable. Let me know if you want to join us. I am also excited over my guest post with Booking Mama this Thursday where I talk about my book club.

Right now I am overwhelmed with homework. Trying to help the kids get a handle on it and then depending on how that goes, we may hit the mall or the bookstore. I’m sure you can guess which one I’d prefer.

As for books and reading, I am currently reading Her Fearful Symmetry and I am enjoying it so far.

Oh! And look what a kind blogger (Jill over at Rhapsody in Books) sent! She sent my son Nerds by Michael Buckley and she sent my daughter a copy of Angels by Chuck Fischer. The agreement is that my son would read the book and then post a review. However, after reading 50 pages he decided that this book is a bit juvenile for him so I am going to pass this one on to Dawn for her son. I will be popping it into the mail sometime this week. Thanks Jill! As you can see from the photo above you made my daughter’s day!

I have nothing special planned for our Sunday meal today. I was at the market getting stuff for our Thanksgiving meal and neglected to buy any food for the week. How did I manage to do that?

What do you have planned for today?
