Sunday Matters: It’s Been a Trying Week

Sunday Matters

A number of things took place this week that threw my little family into a bit of a spin. To put it in perspective, nations were not destroyed or anything but it was just one thing after another.

Right Now:

Today, I am at church pretty much all day long. We are hitting the service, then a special event, then The Hub is hitting another special event off-site and then The Girl and I will have a short break to pick up her friend and then we are back at church for the middle-school ministry. Did you catch all that?

This Week:

Dental appointment, choir concert, volunteering, track rehearsals, first track meet on Saturday and it’s an away meet,  and then a Humans vs. Zombies food drive right after, at the church! It will be a full week but also an exciting week because there is some fun in there.

Reading:

I finished Toni Morrison’s God Help the Child for book club and it was pretty good. Some said it was not her best work. However, I found it to be a very interesting read. It was a good discussion.

I am so close to finishing The Nakeds. Honestly, I thought I HAD finished it before starting my book club book but then when I tried to write the review I couldn’t remember the ending. Well, that’s because I have about 5% left! I don’t know why I thought I was done.

I just started Gold Fame Citrus and it’s also proving to be a very interesting read. It’s HARD though because it’s about the drought in California and although we are not quite as bad as what is depicted in the book, we will be there soon if we don’t get measurable rain.

Watching:

I haven’t had much time to hang out on the couch with Netflix but I have been keeping up with The Walking Dead. It’s so good! I am really hoping we don’t lose Glenn this season. Everyone is talking about the finale and how it might be THAT scene from the comic that we are all dreading. I certainly hope not. I can think of one other way it could be even more horrible and I am hoping the story doesn’t go that way.

Predictions?

Making:

I dragged my butt to the market yesterday to get it done before the big storm hit. Well, we had some rain but a big storm? Nope. But, we will be throwing pork chops on the grill later and have them with scalloped potatoes, collard greens and corn.

Grateful for:

Simplified Planner

My planner. I bought a Simplified Planner this year and I can’t tell you how much I rely on it to keep me together. It’s a daily planner which I don’t think I use to its full potential, but it’s been a real life-saver this year.

What’s going on with you today?

Sunday Matters: Warm Weather Feels

Sunday Matters

All I talk about these days is how fast time flies or how strange our weather is. I mean, we got some rain, about a day and a half of it a week ago but it was warm and then cool and then warm again. The plants and trees around me don’t know what to think. It’s really strange.

The plus side, is that with all this mild weather it does put me in a warm weather mood. You know, easy, carefree and yes, even relaxed. That’s nice because usually I am a wound-up ball of nerves. Yesterday, we piled into the car and hit a restaurant we’ve never been to.

The Tallyrand

The Tallyrand is an old school coffee shop. Great service from servers who have been there for 30 years, comfort food and they make a mean omelette. I first heard about this restaurant when Huell Howser did a special on it. It was great. All the neighborhood regulars were at the bar having their Bloody Mary’s. We will definitely go back.

After that, we hit the zoo. It’s been awhile since we’ve been there. Maybe three years? It was packed!! The weather was so nice which I’m sure had something to do with all of the people there, but we headed to the top of the hill and there was no one there. The parents with strollers opted to hang out at the bottom of the hill, which worked for us.

Right Now:

We are sipping coffee, and eating toast and then we are off to church. The Teen is volunteering at a retirement home with some of this choir classmates so we’ll catch-up with him later.

I have middle-school ministry tonight so I will catch the Oscars at some point but I am not real jazzed about any of the nominees. I DO hope the show ends before The Walking Dead comes on.

This Week:

The Girl has to work 6th grade orientation at the junior high on Monday night, I have a girl’s night out dinner with some friends, Tuesday I have to run the kids to their dental appointment and on Thursday I have book club. In between there are rehearsals, track practices and choir activities. I also have leader training and some other stuff I’ve forgotten about. I really need to spend time with my planner later today.

Reading:

I am finishing up The Nakeds by Lisa Glatt and I am about to start my book club book, Toni Morrison’s God Help the Child.

Watching:

I have one more episode of Mad Men!! Gosh, I love that show. Later, The Walking Dead.

Making:

I made spaghetti with spicy sausage last night but I haven’t a clue what to make tonight since I won’t be home until later in the evening. Maybe I will have the Hub pick something up.

Grateful for:

Sunny days and road trips, no matter how short.

What are you doing today?
