R.I.P. VIII – Begins Now! (ahem, tomorrow)

RIP 8 Main

It’s a little earlier this year but this is the one reading challenge I look forward to all year long. Why? Because it’s fun and totally doable! Carl of Stainless Steel Droppings has thought this one through. There is a participation level for everyone so there is absolutely no reason not to join in on the fun.  It’s called R.I.P. VIII which stands for Readers Imbibing in Peril. How cool is that?

Full details can be found on the blog, but this is the gist of it. You read books or watch movies from any of these genres:

  • Mystery
  • Suspense
  • Thriller
  • Dark Fantasy
  • Gothic
  • Horror
  • Supernatural

Or anything sufficiently moody that shares a kinship with the above.

The challenge begins on September 1, 2013 and runs through October 31, 2013.

The rules:

  1. Have fun reading (and watching).
  2. Share that fun with others.

I plan to participate on two levels. Read the captions for descriptions:

RIP 8 the 2nd
Read two books of any length that fit within the genres listed.
RIP 8 Peril on Screen
Watch a move or TV show, big screen or small, that falls under one of the genres listed.

I don’t know exactly what I will read, but I am guessing the new King book will be one of them and possibly Setterfield’s new one. I could easily read more as this is my favorite time of the year and I love this challenge, but I also want to be realistic. I do believe I can succeed with what I’ve committed to here.

Possible movie choices:

Doesn’t it sound like fun? Do you want to join? If so, head to Carl’s blog for details! I cannot wait! All I need is a creaky floor, some wind in the trees and the sound of a coyote howling in the background…

R.I.P IV Challenge: Are You In?

I just heard about this challenge and it sounds like a lot of fun! R.eaders I.mbibing P.eril IV is hosted by Stainless Steel Droppings and runs from September 1st through Halloween. There are many levels of participation so everyone can participate and includes the following genres:

  • Mystery
  • Suspense
  • Thriller
  • Dark Fantasy
  • Gothic
  • Horror
  • Supernatural

I haven’t chosen my books yet but I hope to join at the ‘Peril The Second’ level which requires me to read at least two books. I’m not sure which books I plan to read yet as I just heard about the challenge but I will list them here once I’ve decided. Anyone else want to join in on the fun? If so, click here for details. I swear, the post alone will put you in the mood for Halloween.

1. The Last Dickens by Matthew Pearl

2.The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson

3. Of Bees and Mist by Erick Setiawan
