World’s End: Film Adaptation of The Road

Have you read The Road, by Cormac McCarthy? I read it sometime ago, yet the story has remained with me ever since. Here is the blurb from Barnes & Noble:

The Road is the profoundly moving story of a journey. It boldly imagines a future in which no hope remains, but in which the father and his son, “each the other’s world entire,” are sustained by love. Awesome in the totality of its vision, it is an unflinching meditation on the worst and the best that we are capable of: ultimate destructiveness, desperate tenacity, and the tenderness that keeps two people alive in the face of total devastation.

If you haven’t had a chance to read it, do add it to your “to be read” pile so you can read it before the movie comes out. Click here to read the New York Time article about the filming of the movie. I guess shooting a movie about the end of the world has some challenges as far as weather, etc. I can’t wait to see the film.

Guilty Pleasure

I have to make a confession. I have been watching Legally Blonde The Musical: The Search For Elle Woods on MTV. I recorded it so that my son could see the audition process, but after the first show I was hooked. I know this post is not really book related… but there are a series of books by Amanda Brown that the movie and Broadway show were based on. I know, a very loose connection indeed.

Anyway… the audition process is brutal! Singing while on an exercise bike, dancing in stilettos on a cobblestone street, etc. I had no desire to see this show at all but I’ve decided that when it comes to L.A. in August ’09, that I am going to go. If you don’t have a lot of time to watch stuff like this, TIVO it like I do and watch it while you are eating breakfast. You can also watch full episodes online. If you watch it, tell me what you think of it.
