Hello, Friends!

Ti, profile pic in her office.

Guess what! I’m still alive. I fell into a little bit of a reading slump, mostly because who can read in this circus show we are living in? Plus, I had a hard time getting my book club book and then once I got it, I didn’t give myself enough time to read it. That has never happened to me before. That totally threw me off.

I am reading a wonderful book right now though. The Last Ranger by Peter Heller. He’s always so good.

The Last Ranger book cover. By Peter Heller. Wolf in the wilderness.

I’ve been taking a lot of walks. Trying to get back to where I was pre-surgery. It’s going well. I have summer camp in July so I am gearing up for that. More stamina can only help with those sleepless nights, the all nighters, the extra sports competitions, the jumping around during worship, etc.

In other news, my work responsibilities have increased quite a bit. I’m learning so much but it’s bumped into my reading time. Lunches turn into working lunches or no lunch at all and much of my lunch time used to be used for reading. Can’t rely on that anymore but by the time bedtime hits, I curl up with my book only to crash from the day.

I will adjust.

How are you all doing?

They are arresting judges now. I knew they would come for them. Without judges preventing what is happening, we don’t have much to rely on. I still feel hopeful that we will rally soon, in some positive way. It needs to happen immediately.

I just wanted to let you know I was alive and will be back to a normal schedule soon.

  1. I feel like each day there is another action that fits perfectly into the authoritarian regime. We will be asked how we could let it happen and I won’t have a good answer. I feel so powerless.

I hope you manage to read a bit. I know how it feels to try to read at the end of the day and just fall asleep.

    1. I have slowly been getting back into reading. Great books help. I just find it so hard to pull myself away from the onslaught of horrible news.

  2. Are we end days? I keep wondering about that question. No one I know likes what T is doing, yet, he keeps doing it without any interference. Eek!

Glad to know you are doing okay, getting in exercise and preparing for summer camp. How long has it been since your surgery? Are you sure you should be jumping around?

    Happy Spring to you.

    1. Thanks for asking the question. It will be 17 months post surgery in May! Jumping around is still limited but walking and basic cardio is good!

  3. Glad to know that you’re ok. I feel the same as you about what’s going on. It’s like watching a scary movie, only scarier, because it’s real. I hope things get better soon.

  4. Good to see your post, Ti! I’m glad you’re enjoying the Peter Heller book. I have several of his to read yet. I loved The Dog Stars and have great intentions of a re-read. Maybe I’ll focus on all of his books over the course of several months (as I’m doing with Maggie O’Farrell and Elizabeth Strout).

I’m glad you’re getting back to your walks. Now that it’s stopped raining here, I’m trying to get out and walk every day.

Yes, every day there’s something terrible to learn in the news, but I’m feeling hopeful that there’s a bit more pushback (universities, courts, etc.). I’m afraid of what’s happening behind the scenes that we’re not aware of, though. I worry about our federal lands (National Parks, Bureau of Land Management, etc.). What a nightmare.

    1. No kidding. Just when we think we’ve hit rock bottom some other atrocity takes place.

My walks have been really good. Maybe a tad too good as the injured knee from years ago decided to act up! I shortened my walks a little to give it a rest but without those walks I’d be a nervous ball of energy.

Reading. Peter Heller always hits just right. My club just picked Burn for June. I’ve already read it but there is plenty to discuss.

  5. Glad to hear you are all right. I also find myself doom scrolling too much … listening to videos on substack about the hell we’re in. 100 days in and it feels like way too long. Not sure how we’ll get thru this. My reading hasn’t been great either. I have read The Last Ranger in 2023. I sort of thought he’d write a sequel to Ren’s life in Yellowstone but I don’t think he did. Keep it going.
