Hey, there. Good morning. I’ve not done a Sunday post for awhile because I’ve been so busy with the Of Human Bondage read along. I am a week ahead and finished the books so what did I do? I immediately added three more reads. I know you can relate!
Right Now:
Serving in Student and Online ministry today. I’ve got my breakfast and my coffee and I will be on my way in a bit. Tonight we have a special student event so I will be back for that.
This Week:
We are heading into the last week of our Of Human Bondage read along and it’s been a lot of fun, and the book is very good, which makes a nearly 700 page book a pleasure to read. This Thursday will be the last update and then I will post the review. So much to say.
On Tuesday night my church is having a worship night. It’s an evening or music and praise. It’s a lot of fun but I will also be hosting online so I will be wearing two hats, host and participant.
Thursday night is Halloween! I am taking a vacation day. I need to use up some time and the traffic that night will be horrid. Instead, I will make chili and cornbread, watch a movie and hand out the goods.
Reading:
- The Midnight Feast by Lucy Foley
- Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt (loving)
- The Great Believers by Rebecca Makkai (Nov book club)
Watching:
Still watching Tulsa King. It’s gotten really good.
Grateful for:
Breakfast at the diner. I shouldn’t be but I am so motivated by a good breakfast. At a diner? Even better. We hit one near us that is in a remote location and last week some horses and their riders showed up to eat.
Isn’t he pretty? I’ve never ridden a horse. I’d like to some day.

Give me an update. What’s new with you?
Going to be an interesting week. My knowledge of Halloween restricted to what I read and see on TV so its very intriguing.
Interesting. I usually try to read some spooky reads this time of the year but didn’t get to it because of the read along I was hosting. I also haven’t seen my fave movies, yet. Maybe on Halloween but we get over 300 kids so it will be busy.
Hello! I’m so glad that you enjoyed the Maugham. Maybe it’s the narration, but I think I’m DNF. I’m over half way but I just don’t need his idiocy and Mildred’s cruelty in my head while I’m also trying to keep the election nonsense out of my stressed head. (And tbh, my romance read that is supposed to be a happy distraction is about electioning and I’m thinking of DNF’ing that, too!) Thank you! for pushing me to get to OHB anyway, I think it is on the 1001 Books to Read list?
SO, let me share instead that I LOVED Remarkably Bright Creatures. And The Great Believers is good, too. I think I liked her latest even more.
Happy Halloween
I’m so glad I decided to take Halloween as a vacation day. The traffic is always a nightmare trying to get home. I will make chili and cornbread and be a slug. Happy Halloween!
Fair point. I will say that OHB does pick up quite a bit. I found it satisfying by that last page.
Oh, the election. I finished a book and immediately searched for another book so as to not have a gap of any kind because as you said, the election stuff is overwhelming at times and I find myself very angry. Hoopla had a copy of Small Things Like These by Keegan and I had no idea how short it was, but I quickly blew through it and it was a slice of happy, although very heavy tone.
My sister had a white Palomino. Many of them are off white but he was snow white and very beautiful. I miss him a lot.
I bet he was beautiful.
He definitely was and I miss him 😦
The only issue with him was his previous owner was a man who mistreated him so he was not a fan of males. For that reason my sister only let females go near him.
That breaks my heart.
Mine too. But he was such a good horse with females!
I am surprised you’ve never ridden a horse! I hope you get to one day.
Now you have me thinking about chili and cornbread. I think I’ll add it to the rotation for next week’s meals.
I know, right? Not even a pony as a kid. I’d love to try. My mobility isn’t 100% (but close). With help I’d probably be able to get on one.
I did not have time for the read-a-long and you’d think year after year of the swim team schedule I would realize that October/November are just non-reading months for me. I do still plan to re-read OHB though.
We all know what our limits are. Reading should be fun so whenever it becomes a “have to do” then we need to reassess.
