Sunday Matters: Reading Typically Follows Real Life

Sunday Matters

Given my recent health news I find it funny that the two books I am reading right now focus on brain activity, Happiness Falls and The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian. It’s wild to be reading about how brains work when your own is going into overtime and honestly, hanging in there.  My reading goal was not met and won’t be and I’m not sure I will do a “best of” list this year. I am just easing into the end of the year and not going to stress out about anything if possible. I want books, and eggnog and fun holiday movies, on the couch with my fluffy blanket.

Right Now:

Student ministry is on break for a few weeks and I am off from work until 1/2. I didn’t take as much time off this year since the kids aren’t here and I will probably need that time later anyway. Should be a nice break. I am volunteering for two services on Christmas eve and will be bulking up on all natural remedies because last year when I worked kids I got the plague.

This Week:

Last night we hit a local taco joint with another couple. This place hands you a box of tacos and you eat in the car. There is something very comforting about delicious tacos eaten inside a car as the windows get all steamed up. Ha. I always look forward to that first bite.

Grateful for:

I am very grateful for the time off, and that at the moment, I am feeling pretty good. My mind keeps wandering but I just need to keep pulling myself back. I’ll be better once the surgeries are scheduled. As of now that has not happened.

Have a great week. Please share your holiday plans with me. Any traveling?

Merry Christmas

  1. Wishing you peace and health!
No traveling here for which I am glad. Heavy fog in Chicago. Driving is horrible and people stranded at the airports. Tried to see Christmas lights last night but the fog made driving really hard.
Blessed to have my kids nearby.
Bored with books lately. Trying Tom Lake. Fingers crossed
    Merry Christmas!

  2. I’ve been thinking about you a lot and hope you have a lovely time with family, time to rest, perhaps to read, but mostly to take care of yourself!

  3. I read The Absolute True Diary of a Part-Time Indian a few years ago, and someone in my book group just nominated it for our 2024 reading list. What a coincidence!

I’m glad you have the week off so you can rest and enjoy some peace and quiet. That taco place sounds great!

We are enjoying a quiet Christmas day, just the three of us. After a year of non-stop visitors, followed by a very busy month of entertaining, I’m thankful for the calm. Keeping you in my thoughts in the coming weeks, Ti. Merry Christmas.

  4. I can imagine how hard this time is for you. Hugs. I haven’t met my reading goal either, but part of it is I’ve read books that are not listed in GoodReads, and I haven’t felt like adding them manually. I just have no need for extra steps right now.

I hope you enjoy the rest of your time off.
