We finished Shrek the Musical last weekend. It was a huge success. Right now we are enjoying a short break before Grease rehearsals start back up. It’s nice to come home and not have to be somewhere.
Right Now:
When the holiday falls on a Tuesday, it doesn’t make for much of a “holiday” weekend but hey, it’s still the weekend and I’ll take it. Not much going on today. My daughter and I need to go to the thrift store to get some pieces for her ensemble costume. The 50’s prom dress will be difficult.
This Week:
I get July 4th off but no other days so I will be at work most of the week. Speaking of work, my cube is being remodeled and expanded (more space!) so I am in a temporary cube downstairs with all my stuff packed up. They tell me it will only be for a week or so.
Besides rehearsals not much else going on. We will most likely stay home on the 4th. The Otter Pup is not bad with fireworks if we are home with her but lately she is so terrified of weird things like house flies so yeah, we will have to stay home with her.
Reading:
I’m still reading the same two books (Perennials and Do Not Be Alarmed) but I did finish The Gypsy Moth Summer.
My reading tastes are all over the place right now. I want riveting stories but for some odd reason I am wanting non-fiction reads too. So rare for me.
Watching:
I recorded Stephen King’s The Mist but haven’t watched yet. Have you seen it yet?
With production week, I fell two episodes behind with Fear the Walking Dead. I hope to catch-up this week.
A movie that I haven’t seen in a really long time is The Big Chill. The Hub is like, “I can’t remember if I’ve ever seen it.” How can one forget such a stellar cast?? He’s seen it numerous times. Now I feel as if I need to buy a copy.
Making:
I made Pork Chops and scalloped potatoes. No applesauce although that would have been good given that The Girl got braces and is having a hard time eating.
I also made spaghetti and chili dogs and some tuna casserole thing that was a big bust. I made it gluten-free and it was okay but not something I’d make again. Of course I made enough to feed an entire country.
Grateful for:
I am really happy that our little heat wave from last week is over, at least for now. We had 106+ temps for several days and I just do not feel human at any temp over 102.
What’s new with you? What movies have you seen? What books do I need to pick up right away?
Our reading tastes are so hugely different I would not recommend any book to you! I am really into The Waking Land but it’s a fantasy and I know you would never read that. I am also reading these sweet mysteries that take place in the Hamptons…I love them. The food descriptions are amazing! They are written around a chef and inn owner…they are relaxing and so pleasant! I walked for 20 mi utes yesterday! I really did!
It’s weird to have a Tuesday holiday but I think a lot of people are taking Monday off. We expect it to be a big week at the store.
Fireworks have been illegal most places we’ve lived but people can buy HUGE fireworks here and they really freaked our dog out until she lost her hearing. I always feel for dogs and little kids this time of year (and at Christmas and New Year) because of the fireworks.
I think its so annoying to only have Tuesday off – they should give Monday off, too. It only makes sense. Plus it will make the employees happy to have a long weekend 🙂 Oh well. Seems everyone I know is working Monday, too.
I know what you mean about reading lately. I finished those celeb memoirs and they were fun, but I wanted something more. I’m reading some Paris-centric tomes for Paris in July – I just finished Paris Letters. This woman basically quit her job after saving nearly 60 grand so that she could figure out what how to be an artist for a living in Paris. Makes me wish I could the lottery 🙂 I’m not sure what to read next. Maybe Yoshimoto or Murakami? I need substance.
Hope you have a Happy 4th!!
Substance is always good in my book 😉
I am here today in my temp spot. So far many have come to say hello. I had to go upstairs to make my coffee though. The hardships I endure.
My husband has to work Monday but will be off Tuesday. We’re between summer semesters so I am off the entire week which will be nice 🙂 Fireworks scare both our dogs to death, and we won’t be able to find the cat for 24 hours or so. Oy. I’m still comfort reading mostly. Hillbilly Elegy was my first nonfiction in a while and I really liked it…I’m still mulling and processing my thoughts before I review it. Have you read it?
I’ve not read Hillbilly Elegy but it intrigues me. It’s not something I’d pick up, from the looks of it alone but everyone raves about it. Can’t wait to hear what you have to say about it.
I hate when the holiday falls in the middle of the week. I don’t have today off, so I’m working and then have a day off and then it’s back to work. Crazy. It sounds like things are less hectic for you, which is good. We went to see Despicable Me 3, which I liked and Katerina enjoyed.
We are not doing much tomorrow but my son’s girlfriend is coming over and we will BBQ. I have to hit the market tonight which will be a joy!
Ah, braces pain. Lots of mushy foods are on order. I think our 4th will be low key as well. We may walk to the beach to see the fireworks though.
Where do they do fireworks by you?
The fireworks are near the harbor/wharf, but we can sometimes see them from our beach, Butterfly Beach
We had fireworks on Saturday night. The dog does well at home; I think because she sleeps through them. However, we took her with us on Saturday night, and she did not do so well. Next year, we will leave her at home.
The holiday falling on a Tuesday is weird, isn’t it? On the one hand, not having a long weekend sucks. On the other hand, it makes for a weird work week but a short one and that is a good thing. I hope!
Enjoy your free evenings while they last. This is our one week of no evening activities of the summer, as the girl starts back up with dance classes next week. I plan to enjoy it!
Now like your husband, I’m wondering if I’ve ever seen The Big Chill.
If you haven’t, you must. It has a stellar cast and it’s just good writing.
I think like your husband, I’ve seen it. I just forgot. 🙂
The Big Chill; now that’s a blast from the past. Even thinking about it makes me hum “Heard it From The Grapevine.” If that’s the title of that (annoying) song. 😉
I do believe that is the song played during the opening credits. Yep!
I have seen Wonder Woman. It was a great movie enjoyed it, Now they can;’t say that a woman can;’t direct a comic book movie. She did a great job. I have seen The Mist. It is ok.
I heard that the director had a heck of a time keeping that war scene in the movie. I’m glad she won that battle because it was a very powerful scene. Still haven’t seen The Mist yet. I am all caught up on some of my other shows so that’s next.
