We are in week 1 of Shrek the Musical so my time around here will be brief this week and next.
Right Now:
I am not working the show today AND my daughter’s cast is not in today’s show either so we will be celebrating Father’s Day. The Hub never made formal plans but food will be involved, for sure.
Later tonight, we kick off a new year in student ministry. This time, high school. I’m a little nervous.
This Week:
Shrek.
I really have to buckle down and read my tour book and one other book. Time! I need more of it.
Reading:
I am almost done with Perennials, which is the book I picked up because I missed going to camp this year. It is good and pretty much what I needed. Review to come soon. It doesn’t replace the camp experience but it gives me all the feels.
Watching:
My son came home after work and queued up Oh, Hello on Broadway. It’s on Netflix. It’s a two-man show and it’s very funny. Like, laugh out loud funny. I highly recommend it. It does have some language so be careful if the kids are in the room.
What do you know? Fear the Walking Dead suddenly got good. I’ll keep it in the rotation as long as it stays good.
Making:
I can barely feed The Girl during production week so no, I am not making anything. She is a healthy eater though so finding healthy fast food is a challenge sometimes. Hard to plan eating time into it too when you are rushing from work to the theatre.
Grateful for:
Live theatre. I’ve had the privilege of working backstage for many shows and I’ve seen these kids grow into the performers they are today. Some of them could barely look you in the eye when they started and now they are singing solos to a sold out house and dancing their pants off (sometimes literally).
Live theatre. It changes lives. Put your kids in theatre or support live theatre by attending a show instead of a movie one weekend. It really makes a difference.
Book Chatter 
Show weeks sure do keep you busy but I can tell you love it. I hope your hubby has a great Father’s Day.
We had a good Father’s day. Food was good as was Wonder Woman, which is what we ended up seeing. My daughter was twitchy. She is not used to having a day off but they extended the show to two weekends so she didn’t have to be in the show on Sunday. She said she missed being there.
I am beginning to think you would be too bored without theatre! But it really does not give you a chance to breathe! You are brave to tackle high schoolers!
Well, enjoy the rare relaxing part of your day today…and hey, I like food too! 😉
We ended up going to a BBQ restaurant and then we went to see Wonder Woman, which was very good.
Glad to see you are surviving! How did ministry go last night with your high school group?
Here, here for live theater! I would add to that that anything involving a stage and audience is good for kids – band, dance, theater, It all has the potential to change lives.
Yay Shrek! And how nice that you and she had Sunday off for Father’s Day. We arrived in the UK today for a 12 day trip so we’re just kicking back at my brother’s house for day one.

Good luck with Shrek! Sounds busy there. Hope it goes well. I’ll be interested to hear about Perennials. I don’t know much about it but have seen the cover around. I hope to see Wonder Woman soon, glad you liked it.
I am almost done with Perennials and unless it takes a surprise turn, I will be pretty happy with it when I’m finished.
Shrek is a fun show. I like being backstage with all of the characters. We had one show less than we normally do this weekend and The Girl was missing it. Back in the theatre this Thursday.
You MUST see Wonder Woman. I am not a fan of superhero movies but this one is too good to miss.
We’ve been taking in some community theatre lately with my mom…and loving it!! We’ve seen Crimes of the Heart and Fiddler on the Roof in the last month.
I had all but given up on going to the movies…until Wonder Woman left me thinking that maybe, just maybe, there were some movies out there worth paying the price to see! What a fabulous movie!
Fantastic. Sounds like things are going well. I really like when you say a book “gave you the feels.” That generally means its a good one. I have to check out that show on Netflix.
Live theater is such a gift! I always love hearing about your kids’ adventures in the theater, and I’m so glad that it’s been good for them and not so onerous for you as to keep you from feeling positively about it. :p
