Best of 2015: My Favorites

Book Chatter's Best of 2015

The new year is just around the corner so it’s time to wrap-up 2015. Here are my top eight books read this year.

I had a hard time coming up with books because I liked many of them but there were a few that really stuck with me in some way.

Here’s my list in no particular order:

West of Sunset by Stewart O’Nan
The Book of Strange New Things by Michel Faber
A Little Life by Hanya Yanagahira
The Last Pilot by Benjamin Johncock
Kitchens of the Great Midwest by J. Ryan Stradal
Summerlong by Dean Bakapoulos
Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand
Norwegian by Night by Derek B. Miller

I hope you all have a safe and wonderful New Year’s Eve!

Happy New Year 2016

  1. I meant to read Kitchens and also West of Sunset and Summerlong! The only one on your list that I did read this year was A Little Life, and that was my #1 favorite of 2015. Happy 2016 to you!

  2. I always love to see what you are reading. I picked up Summerlong after reading your post on it and I thoroughly enjoyed that one. So a big thanks for that. Kitchens of the Great Midwest is on my list….glad it made your cut!
    Happy New Year Ti!

  3. So, I love Atlas Shrugged. Have you read Fountainhead…or seen the movie? Never got why Ayn Rand got vilified, because I couldn’t “get” the basics of her financial philosophy. I’ve since read it, but still believe she’s a crackjack writer. I want to read “A Little Life”

    1. I read The Fountainhead when I was in college and adored it. It was just so large and important to me. I am not sure what I’d think of it now. Reading it in my early 20s seemed fitting for the type of book it was.

I think many criticized her because it’s as if she wrote these books just to promote her way of thinking. Not so much for the art of writing, itself.

  4. Is it too late to wish you Happy New Year? Happy New Year Tish! All best from cold Geneva! A Little Life is is everyone’s best-of-2016 list, but I just can’t bring myself to read it. I’m sure it would be like after reading The Grapes of Wrath: needed a chick-lit diet for a couple of months just to get some balance again…

    1. You MUST read A Little Life but yes, it will mess up your reading for a little while. It ruined me for all other books for at least 2 months.
