I’ve had an excellent reading week. I made a real effort to get through some of my review copies and managed to get through three this week. Almost four. Maybe it’s because I’ve been so high strung and anxious this week. I don’t even care. I just want to continue at this pace and put a real dent in my list.
Right Now:
After the track meet yesterday and much of it being spent in the hot sun, it feels good to sleep in a little bit. Even just a little extra sleep makes such a difference in how I look and feel. I wish I could do it more often.
After a few cups of coffee and a bite to eat, we’ll head to church.
This Week:
I should know about my new office space by Monday. What I know at the moment, is that I will be upstairs.
As for the other stuff, one doc appointment this week and I am really hoping to pick up my new glasses but finding the time to do it is tough!
The Girl auditions for middle school choir this Thursday. She is going to be singing You and I and then has to sing Happy Birthday. I sure hope she makes it. She has a husky quality to her voice so I hope the song choice serves her well. Making choir would really boost her confidence.
Rehearsal and track practice rounds out the week.
Reading:
Not sure what my next read will be. Maybe Five Nights in Paris. Maybe Dead Wake. I’ve been thinking about reading The Fountainhead again or maybe Atlas Shrugged. I’ve been watching Mad Men and Atlas keeps being mentioned. The first is over 700 pages and the second is over 1200. Read-along anyone?
Watching:
Mad Men! I feel like a traitor to all women for watching it but I am fascinated with the time period (60’s) and some of the stuff that goes on is pretty jarring to watch since no one lives that way today. Women smoking and drinking while pregnant, bosses sleeping with their secretaries and anyone else they can get their hands on, etc. The office politics alone will make your toes curl. I am so into it.
Bates Motel is really getting good, too. Four more episodes of crazy!
Making:
It’s warm out which makes me want to grill something. Steak with a big kale salad?
Grateful for:
Reading. My escape this week has definitely been reading. So glad to be back into it.
My reading has been slacking. I go at such a rapid pace these days, I’ve forgotten how to slow down and relax.
We’ve had nothing but rain here for a while so there will be no grilling for us.
I wish we could get some measurable rain. There was a fire right behind my house this weekend. They put it out super fast but it scared me because we back to open hillside and it’s all dead and it’s not even summer yet.
Tons of rain here too (I’m only a couple of hours from Kathy) so I’m jealous of the grilling idea. Probably another Sunday smorgasbord (ie crudités and cold cuts) for us. Good luck to The Girl on her tryout. Show choir has been fantastic for my little ham.
We ended up not grilling. I couldn’t find steak at a good price. The Teen was not happy. We had spaghetti!! I wish we had show choir here. The choir at the junior high level is pretty simple. The Teen’s choir at the high school level is really goodbut they don’t compete too much either.
I stopped watching Bates Motel and I can’t for the life of me remember why. It WAS pretty good… Lol, this is what happens when you load up on too many series. Ayn Rand requires a certain frame of mind, which I can’t see myself achieving in the near future… Sigh. Funnily enough, I’ve been thinking about Atlas Shrugged recently too 🙂
Bates Motel is sort of slow and sleepy for most of the season and then towards the end it gets crazy. I’ve noticed that with each season. This season is wild. I keep forgetting it’s on Monday nights, too. I end up having to watch it the next day.
Kale, yes!
so stressed out and anxious HELPS with reading focus? interesting. and maybe that your eyeball is working better? hopeso.
Happy Find-Out-Where-ya-Work Day!
I think it matters what time of day because stressed and anxious at night makes for good reading time for me. I pour all that nervous energy into page turns. But while at work.. no, can’t focus at all. That is why I have been watching Netflix.
I’d possibly be up for a readalong. I think I’m more interested in Foutainhead but don’t have a true preference.
Hope it’s a great and relaxing week for you Ti!!
It’s looking like it will be Atlas Shrugged. Maybe for July? I will keep you posted.
Love that you have been reading a lot this week! Do send some of those reading vibes this way too. I’ll keep my fingers crossed for your daughter’s auditions! Hope she makes it.
Can’t wait to hear more about your reading spot.
My stomach is in knots over this move. I wish they would just tell me already.
Upstairs, eh? Will you be taking pics so we can see your new digs?
Good luck to The Girl at her auditions this week!! I know she’ll be amazing because after all, she is your daughter! 😉
Ah, sleep. I was such a slug today. It felt wonderful.
I really loved Atlas Shrugged when I read it years ago with my book club. It is a great readalong selection. The Fountainhead is equally enjoyable but different. I am partial to the first one and may be convinced to do a re-readalong with you. It depends on when…
At the moment, I am thinking about July for Atlas Shrugged. You know, a light summer read. LOL.
Good luck to The Girl with choir tryouts! And to you with your office relocation.
I keep meaning to watch Mad Men but I haven’t watched a show in months….the book piles don’t get any smaller so I seem to reach for them first.
At work, I am finding that TV binge watching on my lunch break works better than reading. I am too anxious and distracted to focus on the words on the page but at night I have no problem.
Glad you had a good reading week. I’m not expecting much this week with out road trip home. Hope thing go well with your work move!
Keeping my fingers crossed for The Girl’s audition on Thursday. And I’m anxiously awaiting the news of your new office – I’m hoping it comes with at least one potential secret reading spot. Unfortunately, Ayn Rand isn’t really my cup of tea …
I wanted The Girl to practice more over the weekend but she only practiced for an hour or two. She doesn’t have track on Tuesday so maybe she can get some more rehearsal time in. This not knowing where I am going at work is a real pain. All of my stuff is in boxes. I feel like my routine is all messed up and I left my Kindle at home today! Tragic!
Don’t feel like a traitor to women! I feel like it’s a great reminder of how far we’ve come and how much we need to keep up the good work 😀
I recommend Dead Wake. Such a great read!
Have a great week 😀
Now that I am in season 2, I do see women evolving but that first season was scandalous!

I spent all weekend with my girl; we went to see Cinderella on Saturday while daddy was at class and on Sunday I took her to swimming and lunch at Panda, which she loves. We had some fun bus rides in between there. 🙂
I also got to watch Intersteller, Mockingjay Part1, and Fault in Our Stars.
Yay for a good reading week! I am glad you were able to fit in some good reading time this past week. I feel like this month will be like my last–I’m hardly reading anything. 😦
Are you in your new office today? How is it? Do you have a window? So many questions, I know! Haha Regardless, I hope it’s a nice comfy new work home for you.
Have a great week, Ti.
I still haven’t been told where or when!

While I don’t like Ayn Rand or her politics, I do love both of those books. It’s been years since I’ve read Atlas Shrugged, maybe I should dust it off sometime this year.
If I do a read along for Atlas, it will be in July (probably) so dust that puppy off.
