The Sunday Salon: Return to Reality

Sunday Salon

Today is my last day of freedom. Tomorrow, back to work I go. It’s been a wonderful eighteen days. I got to spend a lot of time with my kids, reading, relaxing, cooking and SLEEPING! I swear, I look at least ten years younger. The Hub had to work short weeks, but when he was home, we watched a lot of movies and it really felt nice to just stay home.

Tomorrow will be another story. I’ll need lots of distraction just to get through the day which I’m sure will start with a big pot of coffee and lots of catching up with the co-workers I actually missed. No matter how positive a spin I put on it, I just dread the return!

But for today, I am just going to enjoy this last day of doing nothing. I made chili the other day which we will enjoy again tonight. Green Bay won, so the Hub was happy. We’ll munch on hot artichoke dip, watch another movie and I will dip in and out of Flight Behavior which started off with a bang and just kept going.

Oh! And I finished Light Between Oceans and it was wonderful. Review to come soon.

Okay, so I am off to enjoy the day. Hope you all have a fabulous Sunday and if you see me online via Twitter or Facebook tomorrow, stop by to say “Hi” because it will be most appreciated.

  1. Glad to hear you are enjoying FLIGHT BEHAVIOR. Thought you would. And THE LIGHT BETWEEN OCEANS is another of my favs. I am back to work tomorrow as well. I love my job but will be wearing a big, black boot on the right foot. Will wear me out, but at least I should not be in pain.

    1. Bryan, depends who you ask. My daughter wants to watch Bio Dome. The Hub wants to watch Moonraker. I want to watch Prometheus. I am guessing I am headed to stupidity hell with Bio Dome.

      1. Wait, why does she win? What does your son think? 😉

Also out of those, I’d go with Prometheus. I keep getting it out of the library, but don’t get to watch it. So I really wanted to know how it is…so tell your family that’s what you’re watching because this guy you know online, from the other side of the country, wants to know if it’s any good.

        1. Well, because I’ve been told Prometheus is too scary for her to watch. She likes James Bond but then the Hub wandered off to watch football.

I have had Prometheus from Netflix for 6 weeks at least! Maybe I will watch it later or tomorrow night at rehearsal.

  2. Take it slow tomorrow, ease into it. I’m interested that you’re liking Flight Behavior – this bodes well

    1. Funny, but I picked up Flight Behavior having no idea what it was about. I got it strictly on the strength of Kingsolver’s writing. It took off in a different direction than I thought it would but it’s very compelling. I am 50% done with it. I hope it continues to impress me.  On the work front, I am easing into it by checking email, drinking coffee and visiting with co-workers. LOL.

  3. Hope you beat those Monday Back to Work Blues. I know of at least one other person, a teacher, who is dreading going back to work tomorrow! Maybe it wont be so Monday after all !

  4. Tomorrow is one of those work days that you just have to get through. We have a bunch of staff development planned so I’m sure we’ll all be bored to tears 😦 Students return on Wednesday and the real routine begins. Oy.

    1. Okay, so I get back to work and see that someone scheduled me for a THREE hour meeting today on my first day back. WTH? A meeting where I have to think. The nerve.

  5. I’m not looking forward to the return to reality tomorrow either. However, as part of my New Year’s Goals I plan to institute some changes to the daily schedule which I hope will make workdays more enjoyable. Good luck to you tomorrow, and enjoy your last day of freedom today!

    1. Something I implemented awhile back was to get to work an hour early. I know it sounds crazy but I beat traffic and then I get an hour to drink coffee, check Facebook and just ease into my day.

  6. OH Flight Behavior. The book I keep hearing RAVES about! Good luck back to work tomorrow. Maybe it’ll be a better day than you could ever expect? Ha! This just reminded me that traffic will be back to normal tomorrow which makes me sad….Though I guess more audio time!

    1. Flight Behavior is a very interesting read. It started off very strong but took off in a totally different direction after just a few pages. Still strong but definitely a book with a message and maybe a protagonist that isn’t very likable. I am 50% done but I am plowing through it.  I am at work now, enjoying a nice cup of coffee and clearing out my inbox. Easing into it. Ha!

  7. I know, boo for spent vacations. On the other hand, I think we all need some structure in our lives. I know I do. And I need to get my Xmas decorations down, and the only hope of that is to get the kids back to school.

  8. I hope your first week back won’t be too bad Ti. It seems that the holiday passes by so quickly and then all the glitter and excitement goes poof and it’s back to the same old grind. I’m looking forward to your review of Light Between Oceans. It’s a book that’s been on my radar.

  9. Everyone in my real life circle of book readers are gushing about Light between the Oceans and I just discovered a new book club will be reading it for Feb 10! SQUEEEEEEeeeee

    1. It was so good. I need to gush about it in a review. Hope to get it posted soon. It is such a great choice for a club to discuss.

  10. I hope you had a good week back so far! I returned to work last week and was so not looking forward to it. I took a day off this week as well, so I still haven’t had a full week at work so it still feels like some kind of half-vacation. I’m already missing the holidays.

  11. My private school has a quirky vacation schedule and we have a nice long winter break coming up soon. I didn’t have much time off for Christmas, but I have almost 3 weeks off starting tomorrow! Yahooooo! I’ll be popping into work for a few days to take care of some things, but beyond that I’m reading, blogging, sleeping, and maybe going to Florida for a few days. Missed you mucho–it’s been a while. xoxo
