Prepping for the Big Day

The Twelve

Anyone else excited about October 16, 2012?

Big book releases give me the shivers. Seriously. The build-up is almost too much for me. I begged and pleaded for an ARC (advanced reading copy) of The Twelve and when each day passed without it arriving in my mailbox, I became despondent.

I know I was not the only one either because it seems as if so many bloggers were overlooked for this one and I must say, it’s a little disappointing. Especially when you were offered book one the first time around. I know. Get over myself!

Anyway, me being overlooked for an advance peek hasn’t affected my excitement over the book itself. I am dying to read it and cannot wait to get my hands on it. My decision comes down to this:

Kindle version or Hardback?

Should I take the day off to read it?

These are the questions that I am asking myself right now.

Also, I am trying to decide if I should reread The Passage.

The Passage

I’m thinking I may, because I read it as an ARC and that was ages ago. Is anyone else planning to reread it before the big release?

Although Cronin’s books don’t fall into one genre, they have elements of horror along with all the other stuff that comes along with experiments gone wrong, flying vampire-like creatures and a strange little girl to lead the way. It’s entertainment at its best and I just cannot wait to dive in!

However, I have noticed that my reading has centered around the macabre lately. It all started with the IT Along. Reading King’s take on childhood horrors has stirred up my love of horror. Plus, Halloween is lurking in the shadows and just the thought of it has me pulling out all of my faves from the past. Anyway, I’m sure my little foray into horror/thrillers will be a short one. I’ll be back to reading about dysfunctional families before you know it. Hope you don’t mind.

  1. *grumble, grumble* I don’t think they have even flipping STARTED the audio. This will be my reading method of choice. I shall wait for you Scott Brick!!!

  2. I was itching for an ARC, too! Ugh! Its crazy that no one seems to have received one. So, I understand your disappointment. As far as re-reading The Passage – I am going to. Mainly, because I read The Passage ages ago and need to be refreshed on it. Plus, I want to read it and then start The Twelve right after for the continuation aspect. Oh, and I’m going to get my copy in hardback, because that is how I bought The Passage. I hadn’t thought of taking the day off, but you are making me think I should 🙂 I’m so excited for this one! Can’t wait!

  3. I am BESIDE MYSELF with excitement on this release! I am number 18 at the library but there is just no. way. in. Hades that I’ll be able to wait for seventeen people to take their three weeks to get through it. I made a decision to buy the hardcover version so I can have that first edition on my shelves. It’s not ideal since I’ll probably lug it around everywhere and my Nook would be more than happy to keep it for me, but I just want that hardcover on my shelves. not to mention, the price difference between the electronic and printed versions isn’t much, at least that I’ve seen, so hard cover it is!

  4. Yes I’m excited about Twelve and I havent even read Passage yet but I plan to before the new one comes out. My husband really liked Passage and I can’t wait to get to these Vamps!

  5. I also didn’t get an ARC. I consoled myself by deciding the publisher must have only given out a few because there was enough demand for book #2 already. I will order hardcover, because I purchased hardcover of The Passage when it came out. I won’t take a day off, but will read as fast as possible to avoid seeing spoilers anywhere! (Won’t reread The Passage, though a refresher might be a good idea.)

    1. They changed the covers from last time so if I buy it, they won’t match. I will probably get the Kindle version and then buy the trilogy as a set whenever it comes out. You know, so it looks all pretty on the shelf! LOL.

  6. I know you are reading lots of very scary stuff…take the day…kindle it…and make some gluten free cookies!

    But what do I know?

  7. I briefly considered a re-read the other day, but 1) I no longer have my original copy and 2) it’s freakin’ long!

Still. I’m sure I’ll be buying and reading The Twelve ASAP. I’m trying to get through my Dueling Monsters and RIP reads so I’m ready for the 16th.

  8. I bought the Passage last week and want to dive into that one for October. I say buy the book, hold it, sniff it, kiss the cover, and then treat yourself to that day off. Just you and the BOOK…an illicit day of reading and coffee!! 😀

  9. Yikes, I still haven’t read The Passage although I’d like to. Maybe I should give it a go on audio instead. Anyhow I thought I’d seen The Twelve on Edelweiss. Did you check on there?

  10. I started listening the The Passage when it was first released and it ended up as a DNF, but I am going to try it again after reading and liking The Stand within the past year and liking it.

If I make it The Twelve will follow. Enjoy Ti
