On Sunday, February 13, 2011, we picked up a new friend. Her name is Chloe!
We found her at the shelter. She had been there for only 11 days and was curled-up and trying to get some sleep while the bigger, louder dogs barked all around her. At first, we walked right by her because she was the same color as her pillow, but on my second pass through the kennel, I caught her looking at me.
She is a bit younger than what we were looking for. We wanted a 2-year-old + dog, but she is about six months old. We don’t know what she is. She looks a bit like a Yorkie at times but then other times she looks like a Schnauzer. Yes, a bit of a mutt but she’s so sweet. Her first couple of nights went well. She’s quite taken with The Girl right now. We will be working on house training, which she sort of already knows and leash manners.
Please wish us luck, because our last shelter experience was not a positive one. We want this little gal to be a happy, member of the family. As you can see from the above photo, her first car ride went swimmingly.
BTW, I wanted to name her Lisbeth or some other literary reference but the kids wouldn’t go for it. Oh, and pardon the photo. I took it with my Blackberry.
Also, I don’t know what it is with me, pets and holidays but all of my pets (their births, their deaths, their adoptions) seem to fall on, or near holidays. My beloved cat of 17 years came to me on St. Patty’s Day and died on Valentine’s Day, three years ago. I sort of took the adoption date of this little gal as a sign. A good one.
Chloe is adorable! It’s great that you adopted her. I believe that animals find the people they are meant to care for and to care for them so I think you have found the perfect new family member.
I am sure Chloe is the name of a literary character :o)
Chloe is a lucky little girl! I wanted to say how uplifting it is that your family and others like it chose a new pet from a shelter. (The picture is perfect!) As caretakers of the Earth and its inhabitants we should all do a lot more caring and a lot less taking. Have a wonderful life with your new family member. :- )
She is smiling! She is so happy to have a home, and a little girl to love her. I do wish you luck. Brava to you for going to the pound for your pet. There are so many animals that need good homes. OK, now, I expect updates, weekly ones, like Lenore does!
I will try to post updates regularly. It’s like having a baby in the house all over again. We are working on our routines, getting them down and such. So far, so good.
So fun! What a total cutie… (both the girl and the puppy). Good luck with the training, hopefully it will go smoothly. Such a sweet thing to have a pet again: a bundle of sweet loyal energy running around the house. Congrats on the new addition. 😉
She’s still getting to know us but she appears to be a cuddlebug. All she wants to do is sit on our laps and lay by our sides. She takes short walks but wants to get home quickly and back to her comfy spot on the couch.
I kind of love that in a dog because I’m that kind of person. I couldn’t deal with a hyperactive dog, who needs tons of exercise! Sounds like you got a good one. 🙂
New puppy! A million years ago I had a cat named Chloe. Good name!
Congratulations!!
Thank you for choosing adoption, the very best option.
She is a lucky girl.
Looking forward to the updates. 🙂
Welcome Chloe! I’m a little disappointed you didn’t get a basset hound, but now I guess we’ll just have to get one ourselves instead of living vicariously through you!
Well, you can get one now and I can live vicariously through you 🙂
She is soo cute! I love my shelter mutt and she looks like a winner:)
Pets are so much work, but so much fun. Good luck! We adore our rescue dog
congrats!!! a new member of the family is always welcome and if you’ve saved a life too..all the better
I think she is adorable and I love her name 😀
I’m sure this will be a better experience!!
Chloe is one adorable (and lucky!) pup. Good luck to all as you settle into your new routine. We adopted a greyhound almost 9 months ago and it’s been a great experience.
That’s a cute little coat Chloe is wearing 😉
I’m envious – I SO want to get another dog, but as long as we stay in the house we’re renting now (most likely at least another year) it’s on hold. Chloe’s a cutie. Good luck to all of you!
She is beautiful…and the best gift on Valentine’s Day…she looks in love already!!!
Oh Ti! She is adorable. Our little Molly was adopted from the shelter–it took us a couple of trips before she found us–and her way into our hearts forever. I think “mutts” are the best. You girl looks pretty in love with your new addition. Enjoy your little pup!
*smiles*
Aw, Chloe is darling. I bet she’s going to make a wonderful addition to your family.
Congratulations on the new member of the family 🙂 At first glance, I thought she was a Yorkie, too, but seems like a mixed breed. And how cute is she with her Gene Simmons from KISS tongue 😀
I think she posed for that pic. Her little personality is beginning to come through. She’s a sassy little gal.
Congratulations! Chloe is adorable, and lucky to become a member of your family! Good luck getting her settled in 🙂
Chloe is just beautiful! Pound pups are the best. Thank you for opening up your home and your heart to this adorable pup.
Awww…she looks cute!! And Lisbeth would be such a good name!!! I’ll have to keep that in mind if I ever get a pet. I hope it works out … for her and for you!
Oh Ti…such a cutie; hope you have much happiness as a result. do you plan to crate her? my SIL was very successful with her rescue, and he loves his crate –security for when she goes out and needs to leave him home.
Yes, we are crate training her right now. I am trying to retrain my “cat” brain because I am having a hard time with the crate even though I know for dogs, they actually crave the security of it. I had cats for 40+ years of my life so the switch to dogs is a bit of a shock to my system.
What a sweet looking puppy! I wish you lots of luck with your new family member!
Yay! Congrats on the pup, Ti! I’m sure your family will have a ball with her – she looks like a sweetie! Good luck!
She’s adorable! Hope it all works out.
Hello Chloe. Love your tongue…it’s almost as big as your head. 😉
What a beautiful puppy dog!
Oh my, it’s she adorable! Congratulations – this makes me miss my dogs even more now.
I hope the family adjusts quickly, Chloe is the same age as Lily so we will suffer/enjoy all the same training moments. 🙂
LOL. Yes! It’s so funny because I can see the “kid” in Chloe. She has a different look that she gives each of us and it’s obvious to me that she knows that I am the mommy because she saves that “I’m just a sweet puppy” look for me whever she gets into trouble. We are training her to use pads since we are gone a lot during the day and she gets the idea, just not consistently yet. Any progress is good, right?
It sounds like Chloe has found the perfect home in that you will love her as much (if not more) than she will love you. Congratulations to you and the new addition to your family!
Ti, she’s just adorable. She does look a little terrier and schnauzer – maybe a bit of Yorkie. Oh my, I just want to give her a squeeze. She’s a lucky girl to have been chosen by all of you and I just know she’ll bring you all happiness.
oh, gosh! she’s tooooo cute! i hope everyone is adjusting and that she’s working out! looking forward to an update. 🙂
I know I am late to the party but Chloe is so cute that I just had to comment and say that I’m glad she’s fitting in well and that shelter dogs are the best!
