Snow in Southern California!

My Side Yard

I am scheduled to return to work tomorrow.

Backyard

I live at the top of a hill. I’m not sure I’ll be able to make it down. We don’t have snow plows in So. Calif. Isn’t it pretty?

We have no TV right now because the satellite dish is covered. It’s really nice and quiet and I am enjoying a bowl of gumbo and reading Great House.

I LOVE this weather.

  1. Such an unusual sight unless you’re in the mountains, isn’t it? It does look very peaceful. I hope it lasts a little while.

  2. Enjoy it since it will melt soon. Go wipe the snow off the dish. That is what we did last week. Or I should say what I did:)

    Enjoy your kindle and warm.

You know that we can share books now:)

  3. Snow is so peaceful as long as you don’t have to drive in it around here…hilly Seattle! No matter how old you are though, it seems snow brings that little bit of wonder and excitement. 🙂

  4. It’s snowing here, too, but I’m in central NY where it’s supposed to snow – not so for southern CA!! Glad you’re cozy indoors where you can enjoy it.

    1. I’ll tell you what, you can have it back tomorrow as I’m sure the streets here will be a mess since we don’t have plows or anything in this part of the state. Pure ice in the roads now and it’s still coming down.

  5. We love it when it snows in Southern Mississippi for the same reasons as you…everything pretty much shuts down and we can sit and enjoy the prettiness of it from the warm inside 🙂 If we had to get out and about in it or had to put up with it for a longer period of time, I bet we’d hate it 🙂

  6. I can’t believe you have snow! I wonder if I’ll wake up and see some on our mountains. Guaranteed there won’t be any in Santa Barbara, but that would be really fun!

    1. Happy New Year!!

You never know, you might see something in those hills. It’s only 32 degrees right now by me and the snow is still coming down.

  7. We’ve just been getting rain down here in Simi Valley. But if y’all can’t get out onto the freeways tomorrow, it’ll make my back-to-work commute just a bit lighter! 🙂

  8. It really is pretty. I am in South West Florida and it has been pretty cold here for the holidays. Would be nice to be snowed in with a good book.

  9. I am so jealous. I heard all about this but we didn’t see a flake here on the westside (although it was crazy cold). 😦 I hope you’re enjoying it!

  10. How much snow did you get? If the amount on the ground is any indication, then that rules out a satellite dish for us–we would have that much snow on a dish nearly all winter!

    1. We got about six inches total but the dish went out after about 2 inches. If yours is mounted on the first floor then you can just brush it off, which is what another reader suggested but ours is mounted on top of a 2 story and I didn’t want to get on a ladder!

  11. Did you get any more than this (because otherwise I’m going to have to chuckle to myself that you are fretting about driving in this)? Enjoy it.

    1. We got about 3 more inches than what you see in the photos. BUT, remember, there are no plows and the average speed for motorists in LA is 65 which is way too fast when there is ice on the road. Plus, I live on a hill AND I didn’t really want to return to work today 🙂

  12. ha! i tweeted a response to this but not sure if you saw it. i love your ‘snow’–we dug out last week from 30+ inches here at the jersey shore–crazy snowfall for us! (go to youtube and search belmar snow time lapse) for a fun time lapse video of the accumulation a few towns over from me.

so, did you get a snow day out of the deal???

    1. I didn’t get an official snow day but I took an extra day anyway! I will check out the you tube video. I know what we had wasn’t much but it NEVER snows here.

    1. I am not a snow gal BUT I would trudge through it to meet you.  I remember visiting Chicago years ago and I came up out of the subway and it was snowing on me. It was not a pretty sight. I was literally twitching like, “what IS this cold stuff falling on me?” LOL.  I am the gal at the ski lodge sipping a hot toddy watching OTHERS ski.
