48 Hour Read-a-Thon (Fun x 2)

48 Hour Read-a-Thon Button

Isn’t this the cutest button?

Wallace over at Unputdownables is hosting a 48 Hour Read-a-Thon. You heard that right. 48 hours of fun. That’s double what we’re used to and it starts this Friday, July 30, 2010.

I know that I won’t be able to participate for the entire 48 hours but I will be reading as much as I can and posting a few updates as time permits. I need this badly because my vacation was supposed to include a lot of reading and with the rowdy campers and monstrous mosquitoes and the last-minute switch in plans, I never got to read! I’ve been reading all week but I am still behind.

So… what do I plan to read? Here is a short list:

  • The Stand by Stephen King (gotta finish it!)
  • Coming Up For Air by George Orwell
  • The Lacuna by Barbara Kingsolver (for book club which meets very soon)
  • One Day by David Nicholls

As you can see, nothing earth shattering as I have mentioned all of these within the past week. If I can finish a couple of these and start the others, I’ll be really happy.

If you have a pile that you need to get through, why not join us? Details can be found here. It’s always more fun to read together.

  1. Love the button and this sounds like fun — i need it for review books, but theweekend is suppose to be really nice, so I don’t think I want to commit.

    Have fun Ti

  2. I should really do this. With the reading slump I’ve been in I could certainly use some reading time and nothing but. Of course that’s impossible with the dog and such but at least all those moments in between could be devoted to reading. I’ll have to think about it- I may unofficially join in.

How are you liking The Stand? I’ve wanted to read that for ages.

    1. You know, I am not liking it as much as I did when I read it in college. It’s good, but different. I think I am more jaded as an adult and a bit more skeptical of things.   Hope you and Buddy are doing well. I know he’s going through a rough time.

  3. Ti, I’m so glad you’re joining in! It will be fun to see how much we all get read. I’m not the fastest reader, so my list is longer than I will probably get through… but half the fun for me is picking out the books, haha!

Note to anyone who wants to join but doesn’t want to read for 48 hours… you can read as much or as little as you want. The purpose is just to have an excuse to read and visit a few new book blogs to get ideas about what to fill your (now) vacant spots on your TBR lists with. πŸ™‚

  4. Good luck with the readathon! We’ll be celebrating my son’s birthday this weekend, so I have far too much going on to participate. Maybe next time!

  5. I’ve just started The Passage so maybe I should join in on this one this weekend. It looks like I will be staying close to home so it might work out for me. Good luck with getting caught up on your tbr pile!

  6. I can’t do it this weekend although I should, because the next weekend we start our roadtrip, and I bet I won’t get much reading done at all! I might have to have a mini readathon when I get back!

  7. Sorry about all the stuff that happened during vacation. I never read as much as I want to when I am on vacation. I will tell you that I would never be able to do that 48 hr. thing:( That is way to much.

Let me know about the book One Day. I have that on my list on Amazon. Love your new profile picture.

  8. Sounds like fun, Ti! I’ll check out Wallace’s site and read up on it. This weekend should be a good one for this kind of reading fun πŸ™‚

    1. By the way… you’re my Hills buddy right? I forget who I talk to about that show. I have been trying to watch the last three episodes online but they took them down until 7/30 and Aug 6th. I’ll email ya when I see that finale.

      1. Ti, I am your Hills buddy πŸ™‚ And that is annoying that they took down the eps already. What is that about? Definitely let me know what you think of the finale – the one that left everyone wondering what was real and what wasn’t – LOL!

  9. I’m really looking forward to hearing what you think about The Lacuna….my MIL read it for her bookclub but thought it was a dud. I read the first couple of chapters when I was at her house visiting this past spring and I was riveted by what I read. Hmmmmm…..your review will tip the scales for me. πŸ˜‰
