The Sunday Salon: What Happened to Winter?

Today has been incredibly gorgeous! Blue skies, warm temps, a slight breeze…just wonderful. I spent a good chunk of the day outside on the patio with a book in my hand. I spent another chunk looking for my daughter’s lost scarf (sentimental value and all) which included digging around in an Office Max dumpster because the manager, although he admitted to finding it, refused to open a drawer to see where his employee put it. Needless to say, we are “scarfless” and could not find it. My daughter is crushed.

Oh, you’d like to know what I’ve been reading? Well, I am still reading The Things That Keep Us Here, but I have some issues with it. I was looking forward to reading it, but so many things irk me about it. Perhaps it’s because I got a really early ARC of it? I’m about halfway through so hopefully it will redeem itself. Hopefully.

Right now, I am waiting for our Chinese food FEAST to arrive. As you know, I am Game On‘ing it and this is a meal off. I cannot wait for it to get here. I am so darn hungry.

  1. First of all, let me solve the puzzle as to where winter is…IT’S HERE IN FLORIDA! It has been soooo cold here. Really cold. It’s 28 right now. It hasn’t been near 50 all weekend. My grapefruit trees are probably completely frozen! Anyway, I hope your book gets better for you and I’m so sorry you didn’t find the scarf. That sucks. Hope you enjoyed your Chinese feast and good luck with your diet. Hopefully tomorrow you won’t eat your desk. 🙂

  2. I would echo Lisa’s annoyance with the weather. It is so cold! And we aren’t use to it here! We are all complaining about our dry cracked skin. It makes it hard when you are trying to exercise. Everything I do now has to be on the elliptical.

And boy, do I know that feeling when you are waiting to eat your meal off. I was cooking ours on Friday night, and it was all I could do not to taste!

  3. Sure hope some of that warmth is headed this way! I am rather tired of single digit temperatures.

Hope you enjoyed that Chinese food — sounds good to me. I may have to do the same on my day off this week.

  4. Ti…I would not complain about the warm weather. Your part of the country is probably the only place in the US enjoying warmth. Poor FL residents, even Miami is freezing, The manatees are suffering as a result.

I have heard some similar comments about The Things That Keep Us Here. I had high hopes, so I’ll let you know what I think when I read it in Feb.

  5. I’ve got your winter right here in Richmond! But unlike most, I actually enjoy it quite a bit. When you’re outside, the cold is invigorating, and when you’re inside, well, you don’t know it’s 12 degrees outside, and you can enjoy cozying up in a quilt with a good book. Love it.

Though I do envy you getting to sit outside with your book all day. And that Chinese food feast. That sounds amazing. Hope your week gets off to a good start w/ your furlough day.

  6. That is too bad about the scarf! I’m jealous of the Chinese food – it sounds yummy! It’s not cold here, but it’s not warm either. Just rainy and cloudy all the time. We haven’t seen the sun in a few weeks (in our location when the sun comes out in winter we usually get fogged in, while most of the rest of the valley gets sun). Sometimes in Oregon it goes on this way for months.

I’ve started exercising (combining wii fit and stationary bike) to work off all the holiday weight. I hope I can be consistent, but even if I miss a few days it has to be better than at the holidays where my relatives were pushing cheesecake my way at every turn. Good luck with the Game On plan!

  7. I’m envious of your sun, warmth and blue skies! Here in Ohio we have 3 feet of snow…but, we did get to see sun and blue skies when the snowstorm cleared Saturday! That stinks about the scarf and maybe you should talk to a manager at OfficeMax! I hope that they find it.
