The Sunday Salon: It’s a Sunny Day Edition!

Southern California has been experiencing the worst case of June Gloom since…I don’t when! Dark skies and cool temps which add up to lots of reading time for me.

However, today it’s sunny! The sky is blue so we are heading to Ojai to visit Bart’s Books. Some of you may recall my post about it. It’s the outdoor bookstore with a ton of charm. If you missed that post, click here to read it. It’s really something. I am going back because the last time I went, I forgot my book list. I am also going back because I am doing a Spotlight on Bookstores post for She Is Too Fond of Books.

Since yesterday was completely gloomy, I sat on the couch and finished Rude Awakenings of a Jane Austen Addict. It doesn’t come out until later this month so at the request of the author, I am holding off on the review until its release date. I also started My Cousin Rachel, The Link, and The Shadow of the Wind. I swore that I would not read more than one book at a time but all of these are so good that I cannot put any of them down!

I just made chocolate chip pancakes so the kids are bouncing off the walls. Time to throw myself into the shower and start my day. I am excited about my trip to Bart’s Books. I wonder what treasures I will come up with this time (must print off TBR list now).

What do you have planned today?

  1. Oh…Shadow of the Wind is one of my all time favorite books. I would read this one again.

I envy your day at the bookstore.
Our weather in Connecticut is also pretty cold, damp, and dismal.
I'm indoors and plan to stay finishing up Scottsboro by Ellen Feldman and The Bolter by Frances Osborne. Both are excellent.

    Have a great day!

  2. Barts Books sounds wonderful! We don't have anything cool like that here in Florida. I envy you! I'm glad the sun is shining on you. Enjoy your Sunday! I'm finishing The Prudent Mariner today.

  3. I was just coming over here to look up your post about Bart's Books. We're going over to Ventura today, and I was thinking about suggesting to my husband that we make our way up to Ojai from there. Enjoy your visit!

  4. It is really helpful to take lists when you go to a bookstore! I've forgotten to look for something I really wanted; bought a repeat volume of a book (more than once!) or just bought too much because I wasn't sticking to a grocery list, so to speak! It sounds like you have a fun day ahead!

  5. I'm loving the June Gloom! I hate the hot summer and love to have that stay in and read a good book feel sometimes. What can I say? I grew up in the midwest.

  6. I'm getting packed for a trip to Utah tomorrow. I can't wait to see what kind of bookstores there will be in Utah!

  7. I'm so jealous of your trip back to Bart's Books. It looks like such an awesome place.

I started the day with custom-made pancakes (I chose banana pecan) at fancy brunch w/ my sis, her fiance, and my parents…hubs and I were in Raleigh for the weekend, and it was great.

Hope your Sunday evening is great.

  8. I can't wait to see what you find at Bart's Books! We've had really gloomy weather up here in Oregon so far this month too. It's warm, but not really sunny. Today it's 80, cloudy and muggy. So we're all inside with the air conditioning on. 🙂 I'm glad you are getting a nice sunny day!

  9. I cannot wait to hear what you have to say about My Cousin Rachel!!!

    Enjoy your sunny day!

  10. Looking foward to hearing about what you bought at the bookstore!
You're amazing juggling so many books..I can barely read two at the same time!

  11. It must be raining all over the country! We've had rain for 4 days, and it's only in the low 60s today … it would be typical if this were April, but I'm ready for summer sun and fun!

I'm so glad you'll be able to write a Spotlight on Bart's Books. Those pictures you posted with your last visit (was it Mother's Day?) were amazing! I hope you picked up some books from your list.

  12. The Shadow of the Wind is a really good book! I'm currently in the middle of Rude Awakenings and like it so far.

  13. I haven't started Rude Awakenings yet. I will later this week, closer to posting the review. I can't wait though!
