The Sunday Salon: April 5, 2009

It’s late in the day but a late Sunday Salon post is better than none, right? We spent the weekend in Palm Desert. It’s Spring Break for the kids and since my husband couldn’t take all of it off from work, me made it a short weekend thing and it was very nice. We visited relatives, visited the zoo and ate enough food to last us a few weeks. Seriously. The weather was a warm 75 the entire time we were there. Nice.

We got to feed the giraffes!

The view from one of the nature trails at the zoo.

The golf course where we hung out a bit.

Here’s another pic from the golf course.

Overall it was a fun weekend but I didn’t get too much reading done. I DID buy Half of a Yellow Sun from one of the big superstores but I couldn’t find any used bookstores out there. If anyone knows of any please let me know!

The weather in Southern California is just beautiful right now. Yesterday it was 85 degrees and it felt really nice. While my son was at a birthday party, my daughter and I hit the bookstore to celebrate her reading breakthrough! Unfortunately, she takes after her mama and could not decide on any books to actually buy.

She wandered from one stack to another, eyes wide, with a little smile on her face. It was so cute. One book that caught her eye is The Tushy Book. Although this book is very cute, it’s geared towards the pre-school set. Too young for her now that she is a reader. A reader! I just like saying that.

Saturday night we ordered food and watched the Kid’s Choice Awards (on TV). I wish all awards shows were as much fun as this one. We laughed and since the voting was live my son kept voting for his favorites via my laptop. We love to watch the kids get slimed!

Right now I am lounging around in my jammies and plan to plop down and finish Nineteen Minutes so I can focus on my next book The Prudent Mariner. I was trying to read them together but it’s just not working out. I really think I will go back to reading one book at a time. I know many of you read more than two books at a time but with work and family stuff I just get too distracted.

Later today we are heading to a BBQ at my Mother-in-Law’s house. It’s the perfect day for a cook out so we are looking forward to it. What do you have planned for today?
