Movie Review: The Conjuring (2013) (#RIPXII)

The Conjuring

Apparently there are many of these Conjuring movies out there but I only knew of this one, so when #RIPXII came around I quickly added it to my list of movies to see. I am sharing the review here so I can post it on the RIP XII review site.

RIPXII

The Conjuring is the perfect horror movie. It includes all of the good stuff: a scary old house, lots of spirits, jump scares, and pretty good acting by Vera Farmiga (Bates Motel) and Patrick Wilson. This move has very little gore. It’s mostly very suspenseful with a lot of “surprises” to make you jump out of your skin. The story isn’t bad either:

Sometimes these types of movies are throw aways where you watch them once and move on, but I could see myself owning a copy and I can for sure see myself watching the other movies in the franchise.

Movie Review: Insidious, Chapter 2

Insidious 2

A movie review? On a book blog? I know, I know. Well, it’s for the R.I.P. X challenge so it’s all good.

RIP X

I won’t go in-depth because I failed to notice that what I was watching on Netflix was part 2 and not actually the first film but seriously, it played out like it was the first film. I had no idea that it was a sequel until I looked it up.

Anyway, it’s the perfect ghost story for this time of year. It’s a bit scary, but no gore and no language. The Lambert family tries to figure out why they are connected to the spirit world and all sorts of strange happenings take place. Their one son has a special talent for going places while he sleeps and the husband is a little confused over his identity. The wife, played by Rose Byrne is great.

Overall, I liked this film. It has a creepy house, strange children, and just enough suspense to keep you on your toes. I kind of want to see the first film and there is even a part 3, which came out not too long ago. Have you seen Insidious?
