The Week Ahead

A bit late posting my week but better late than never! Here’s what I have going this week:

Monday, September 8, 2008 – Had a meeting with an employee relations rep over an irate employee. That was fun (not). Working on getting the kids’ picture order filled out as tomorrow is picture day!

Tuesday, September 9, 2008 – Co-workers are taking me out for a belated bay lunch. I try to stretch my birthday into a month long celebration. I mean, why not? Tonight I plan to finish Greasy Rider which will be reviewed here.

Wednesday, September 10, 2008 – Yet another birthday lunch. This one is with a women’s group I belong to at work. I got tagged for a meme so I hope to post that today. Tonight I plan to read quite a bit of Run. I have a number of books that I am obligated to review so I am trying to read those along with other books that I have committed to reading.

Thursday, September 11, 2008 – Okay, Okay.. another birthday lunch but heck a girl has to eat. I also get my performance review today. I detest performance reviews, even though mine are always really good. I even read this one beforehand but the whole experience reminds me of going to the principals office as a kid. Boo… hiss.

Friday, September 12, 2008 – Dinner with a friend tonight and I think we are going to see The Women. Either that or Sisterhood 2. I would be happy with either one as I never get to see a first run movie.

The Weekend – My book group is meeting for tea, scones and other nibbly bits. The idea is to see if the group is still working for all of us as it has been quite some time since we implemented any changes. I am personally quite happy with the group. I look forward to it each month. Sunday is a free day for me. Yay! Nothing going on and I hope to keep it that way.

What’s on your plate this week?

Mystery Trip Revealed!

As many of you know, this past Friday was my 40th birthday and my husband planned a surprise weekend trip. He never does stuff like this. I usually have to buy my own present or tell him specifically what I want. I really had no idea what was planned until my son’s teacher saw me at pick-up on Friday and said “Bye!! Have a wonderful weekend on the Queen Mary!”. So that’s where I was going!

For those that don’t know, the Queen Mary is a ship that was built in the 1930’s and made about 1000 voyages before coming home to Long Beach, California, where she is now permanently anchored. Once a bustling sea vessel, she is now a hotel that is heavily booked for weddings and banquets. Her draw?? Well, she is known to be haunted and during this time of the year and into November, most of her bread and butter comes from tour income.

After checking in and unpacking we headed out to dinner. We hit a restaurant called McKenna’s On The Bay and let me tell you, it was fantastic! It was fancy and the food was delicious but kid friendly and not snooty at all. I hate snooty restaurants. When we got to our table, I found flowers and balloons waiting for me and we had a view of of the sunset. It could not have been more perfect. Well, it could have been if my daughter had not boycotted her pasta but I digress.

My husband also presented me with two robin’s egg blue boxes and you know what that means! Tiffany! He got me a beautiful necklace and a bracelet too. My love for all things Tiffany started with the movie Breakfast at Tiffany’s which is based on Truman Capote’s novel of the same name. If you haven’t seen that movie, please do.

The rest of the weekend was spent at the Aquarium of the Pacific and just checking out the local sites. The only down side was the constant banging of old pipes in our stateroom. When we mentioned it to the front desk staff they said it was paranormal activity . Whatever it was, it was freaking us out.

I think my husband did well with the planning. I still can’t believe he did it all on his own. I think I’ll keep him.
