Cart Before The Horse?

My five-year-old collects paper. She also collects envelopes and sticky notes. She LOVES paper. Now imagine what a five-year-old would do with mail that happens to be addressed to her. Are you imagining? No? Okay, well imagine this.

While cleaning out my daughter’s backpack, I noticed a return envelope with the name “Emily” written on the front of the envelope in my daughter’s hand. The envelope was from the “Blank Blank Blank Pregnancy Center”. It was sealed. I opened the envelope and inside was a small card about pregnancy options which included abortion, adoption, etc. I immediately called my daughter over to me so I could ask her about it.

She went to her craft drawer and pulled out the original letter. The “Blank Blank Blank Pregnancy Center” sent my five-year-old pro-choice literature. Yep, my five-year-old. Now, it could be that their mailing database has her birth date out of whack and they don’t realize that she is a mere child, but do you have any idea what would have happened had she given that letter to her friend Emily?

Emily’s mom would have been appalled and my kid would have gotten suspended and I for sure would have gotten the “bonehead” award for allowing my kid to come to school with pro-choice literature. I’m guessing she spotted it when she brought the mail in yesterday.

The first thing I did this morning was send them an email. I also left a message but this place has no brick and mortar address and you cannot speak to a live person. Let’s see if I get a response. Regardless of my beliefs, this type of material should not be going to a young child. Educate them early but come on!

The Week Ahead: December 8-14, 2008

I love the holidays but the one thing I don’t like, DETEST actually, is the constant rushing around. It leaves me completely dazed and worn out. This past week was a bit much with the Holiday Show, but the kids were fantastic. My son had a solo and he hit the notes dead on. Kidlet #2 sang for real! No lip syncing which is what she has been doing for 3 weeks.

Here’s what my week looks like:

Monday, December 8, 2008 – I have a number of things to do at work (blech). I am working on updating technical documentation. It’s riveting, let me tell you. However, with the bad comes the good… I am taking a co-worker out to lunch for his bday. He hasn’t told me yet where he wants to go so I can’t tempt you with any yummy foods yet. Tonight, tickets go on sale for The Music Man so I have to get to rehearsal early so we’ll have decent seats. I don’t mind rehearsal because while Kidlet #1 is inside, I get to hang out in the car or shop or whatever.

Tuesday, December 9, 2008 – More work stuff and I hope to read at least 50 pages of Ransom My Heart sometime today. Tonight I am going to a holiday shin dig at the University Club. It’s for my women’s group. A lot of the women are older but man, they crack me up. It should be a good time.

Wednesday, December 10, 2008 – Gayle over at Everyday I Write The Book is hosting her online book club today and she will be discussing We Need To Talk About Kevin.

Thursday, December 11, 2008 – Hoping to have my review of Ransom My Heart up today at some point. At lunch, I will be meeting an old friend from work. He has yet to tell me where he’d like to go. Men.

Friday, December 12, 2008 – Yet another dinner party to go to tonight but this one is always a lot of fun. My co-worker’s house is very close by and a bunch of us just head over there after work. There’s always good conversation. Good food and drink too.

The Weekend – Nothing going on Saturday yet but Sunday night my girlfriend Karen and her family are coming over for a Christmas exchange. We do it every year. This time we are ordering food so we can just relax and have fun. I love getting presents. Oops. Did I say that out loud?

What do you have planned this week? Any special holiday events?
