The Sunday Salon: March 29, 2009

The weather in Southern California is just beautiful right now. Yesterday it was 85 degrees and it felt really nice. While my son was at a birthday party, my daughter and I hit the bookstore to celebrate her reading breakthrough! Unfortunately, she takes after her mama and could not decide on any books to actually buy.

She wandered from one stack to another, eyes wide, with a little smile on her face. It was so cute. One book that caught her eye is The Tushy Book. Although this book is very cute, it’s geared towards the pre-school set. Too young for her now that she is a reader. A reader! I just like saying that.

Saturday night we ordered food and watched the Kid’s Choice Awards (on TV). I wish all awards shows were as much fun as this one. We laughed and since the voting was live my son kept voting for his favorites via my laptop. We love to watch the kids get slimed!

Right now I am lounging around in my jammies and plan to plop down and finish Nineteen Minutes so I can focus on my next book The Prudent Mariner. I was trying to read them together but it’s just not working out. I really think I will go back to reading one book at a time. I know many of you read more than two books at a time but with work and family stuff I just get too distracted.

Later today we are heading to a BBQ at my Mother-in-Law’s house. It’s the perfect day for a cook out so we are looking forward to it. What do you have planned for today?

Friday Ramblings

I am thrilled to report that with the help of my daughter’s fantastic teacher and the use of the Bob Books series by Bobbie Lynn Maslen and John R. Maslen, my daughter can read!

She has been working on the books in this series and the other night, she came over to me with book four and read the entire thing to me! I was so surprised because I had no idea that she could read. She didn’t seem quite ready to do it on her own during my story times with her. Needless to say, I am thrilled. She is my little reader and will enjoy books as much as I do. I can already see it. My son? Still working on him 🙂

As for my own reading, I am reading Nineteen Minutes by Jodi Picoult and The Prudent Mariner by Leslie Walker Williams. I should get plenty of time to read today because I am having a procedure done in an attempt to find out what the heck is wrong with my throat/mouth. Every time I eat, food gets stuck in my throat. It’s not pleasant! However, I really think I need to go to a ENT and not Gastroenterologist but I guess they are ruling stuff out. Since I am being put out, I am taking the entire day off.

My boss sort of indicated that she wanted me to work from home afterward. I just laughed.
