Monday’s Movie: Hancock

Sheri over at A Novel Menagerie is the host of this weekly meme which is all about the movies you’ve seen over the past week. Thanks for hosting Sheri!

With two kids at home and a stack of reading that is currently a mile high, I don’t get to watch (or go to) too many movies but sometimes I manage to squeeze one in. This weekend we rented Hancock. It stars Jason Bateman, Will Smith and Charlize Theron. The premise is actually sort of interesting. Hancock has special powers and tries to do good things but he has an image problem and that is where Jason Bateman comes in. Jason plays Ray, an image consultant and Ray works with Hancock to make him more popular with the general public. Charlize plays Angel, Ray’s wife. She’s too damn beautiful for words so I was often distracted by her “perfectness.”

The movie started off really slow and I almost took it out of the DVD player but my husband said to give it a few more minutes and so I gave in. It ended up being a pretty decent movie in the end. However, the version we got was not PG-13 but unrated. It had some bad language which the youngin’s probably could have done without. My 5 year old did not like the shooting scenes. She said that they would give her nightmares so I read a book to her during that part.

On a scale of 1-5 with 5 being best, I give it 3 Hoots.

The Sunday Salon: March 8, 2009

Today is the first day of Spring Forward and I was well aware of this when I went to bed but I still managed to set the clock backward, instead of forward. I was clued in by the chirping birds outside and the sun peeking through my window. I love the end result of the time change but it always messes me up for a few days.

This morning I had the luxury of going to breakfast with one of my girlfriends. We went to a local place that I’ve been enjoying lately (perhaps too much) and it was delicious. Food always tastes better when you have a chance to sit and enjoy it in peace. My kids are really good in restaurants but my little one is constantly needing something. Another straw or more syrup or extra napkins. What can I say? She is a lot like me 🙂

My son is about to head off to a birthday party and my daughter and I will be attending a Mother/Daughter Stampin’ Up workshop. She is quite the artist but I always get a little nervous when there is ink around. Especially with my friend’s white carpet!

Later, I plan to just sit and read. I’m reading Drood and Laws of Harmony right now. I also have to fit Nineteen Minutes in there and The Prudent Mariner. I’m slowly catching up on my stack and it feels good to be making some progress.

At some point I am going to have to ask Kidlet #1 to practice his audition pieces for The Wizard of Oz which is the next show. He practiced some yesterday but auditions are this Wednesday so he needs a bit more practice before then. He is auditioning for Toto (yep, the dog which apparently will fly), a role called “gatekeeper” and a lead flying monkey. He was too young to audition for Scarecrow which is what he really wanted but what can you do?

I am looking out the window right now and the weather is beautiful in Southern California today. Makes me feel as if spring has arrived. What do you have planned for today?
