Another blogger and I were talking about the books we’ve purchased that have LONG been on our shelves and not read. I, for one, am a big supporter of indie bookstores so when I visit one, I always buy a book or two. Well, I have at least a handful that I purchased that are still waiting for my attention.
I am not going to call this a challenge, but I plan to read at least one of these books this year. At least one. Doable, right? Here is my list in no particular order:
- Lapvona by Ottessa Moshfegh
- How High We Go In the Dark by Sequoia Nagamatsu
- Shuggie Bain by Douglas Stuart
- Tales of the City by Armistead Maupin
- Pastoralia by George Saunders
- The Beautiful and Damned by F. Scott Fitzgerald
- The Healing Season of Pottery by Yeon Somin
- Camp Zero by Michelle Min Sterling
I am leaning towards Camp Zero.
Nice post 🌅🌅
I have a long list of books on my list. Hard to choose one only. I have genres I want to get to , including immigrant Asian literature. They are so many new writers these days, historical, contemporary, etc.
Yes, you are always very good with your genre selections. I don’t think about it too much.
so many. Leaning toward Wolf Hall but it’s so huge!
Man, Wolf Hall was a DNF for me but honestly, I didn’t give it much time. I have my copy somewhere around here.
all 3 books are huge. I read that the number of characters is huge. And some with the same name 😦
How High We Go in the Dark is excellent!
Good to know!! I bought it so long ago.
I have so, so many to get to. However, I’d like to read The Women by Kristin Hannah. I’d also like to read several of the books I’ve gotten at author events in last couple of years. I get them, the authors sign them, and I carefully put them on my shelves – unread – ha! Need to read them.
Haha. I have a few signed copies too but I have read those! The Women. I have never read a Hannah book! I have one of them on my shelf. Forget which one.
I was just chatting about this with a friend. Since I’m purging books from my bookshelves I keep finding books I never read – like, from 20 years ago. It’s crazy! I wound up donating the majority of them, because they aren’t books I would read now. So, it was kind of cool to see how much my reading habits have changed.
I think it’s cool you want to read one this year. I have Shuggie Bain on my TBR list, too. Enjoy Camp Zero 🙂
I like to buy a book or two when I visit an indie bookstore too. As a result I have a lot of unread books still. Haha. I like this idea, and you have some good choices there. I have heard good things about Camp Zero and hope you enjoy it!
I haven’t read any of these. The one book I’d like to read that’s been on my shelves for years is probably The Winds of War (Herman Wouk). Also Stones from the River (Ursula Hegi), which I’ve had for decades!
I’ve read Stones from the River! Long ago. It was an Oprah pick.
Yeah I have a lot unread on my shelves, sigh! I can relate. If you decide to read the Shuggie Bain novel … maybe I’ll get a library copy and do it with you. 🙂 …. It might be a book full of pain … but I’m curious.
