Sunday Matters: Really Feels Quite Different Lately

Sunday Matters

Do you feel it too? That sense of peace and calm? I’ve not felt that in months. I feel so much more productive and happy. I’ve been spending more time on my Bible studies and it just feels good to not be walking around with my shoulders all bunched up with stress.

Activity has been good even though some walks were skipped due to those horrid winds. And my path to a plant-based diet has been good too. Right now I am just working on being vegetarian again but my doc suggested a plant-based diet and since quitting meat I have lost eight stubborn pounds and that is huge for just two weeks doing this. She suggested inflammation was the culprit. She might be right.

Right Now:

I am sipping coffee and diving in and out of my current read. This afternoon my daughter has two auditions and then later my youth group meets on Zoom.

This Week:

The upcoming week is blissfully empty. Work, yes but nothing on the calendar requiring my focus.

Reading:

I finished Miss Benson’s Beetle and the review should be up this Tuesday. I am now reading The Wife Upstairs.

The Wife Upstairs

Watching:

Still watching Maine Cabin Masters. I would love to own a little cabin. Especially a nicely done-up one on the lake! This show is so cool to watch.

Grateful for:

  • Easy, breezy afternoons where nothing is going on except me deciding what to read.
  • Rain. We are finally getting some rain. We need it so badly.
  • Good storytelling. All I want to do these days is curl up with a good read and there are plenty of books for me to choose from.

Let me know how you are doing. I hope you are all healthy and that your families are doing well too.

  1. I do feel a lot of hope now. It’s not just that the administration has changed but also feel confidence that this administration represents the population well and isn’t just looking out for its supporters. I really would prefer not to worry about DC on a regular basis – I have enough on my brains otherwise.

Glad to hear that plant-based diet is working out for you. The husband and I talk about doing it every year. We don’t eat meat but would like to kick chicken off the list too. What are your favorite sources for recipes?

  2. Yes, there is definitely a sense of peace and calm these past few days. I hope it continues, but I wouldn’t be surprised if there’s any sort of violent activity in the coming weeks, though. Especially during the Impeachment trial. But, it’s wonderful to wake up and not cringe with every news report centered around the activities of the White House occupants.

Wow! Congrats on losing those stubborn pounds. I enjoy meat, but could easily give it up for all but one meal a week. My husband, on the other hand, would be willing to give it up once a week. Time to make a big pot of quinoa for some breakfast and lunch bowls. I love it with just about anything!

Isn’t it great to have a quiet week? The past three weeks have been packed full of all sorts of appointments, but this coming week is relatively quiet. My husband is now able to drive, so that means I don’t have to drive him to his physical therapy appts. Hooray! More time for walks, cycling or reading.

    Enjoy your week, Ti!

    1. I need to use quinoa more. It’s one of the few grains I can enjoy since I have Celiac but I hardly ever use it!

I can see some unrest happening with the trial coming up. I am just hoping the authorities stay on top of threats and diffuse accordingly.

  3. I think many of us are breathing easier this week thank goodness. Can’t wait to read your thoughts on Miss Benson’s Beetle – on my list.

  4. I’m excited for you to try vegetarianism and glad that it’s working well so far. I know you can’t have gluten, but are there other restrictions? I’m thinking of some of our recipes to share with you.

I do feel calmer since the 20th. What a relief!

  5. My family and I need to start our walks up again, but I hear a cold front and more rain is coming in. I hope your daughter’s auditions went well.

Your recent and current read both sound good. I look forward to your thoughts on them.

There is a definite sense of relief with the changeover in leadership. I remain cautiously optimistic.

I hope you have a great week, Ti!

  6. I think we were both on the “it feels different” train this weekend. (And also the “it’s good to get the power back” train, which I hope to stay on for a while.)

  7. So glad to hear you are getting rain, but I hope it isn’t too much rain. Glad to hear that you are less stressed and the new diet is working out for you.

I had a really busy weekend with swim practices and a virtual swim meet. I am exhausted, but it is a work week…so back at it.

  8. I feel that sense of calm, too. Seems like much of the country breathed a sigh of relief. The problems are still there, of course, but now I feel some hope.

Glad the plant-based diet is working out for you. I wouldn’t have many complaints giving up meat, but my husband wants no part of it. You wouldn’t believe the look I get when I serve to occasional vegetarian meal!!

  9. It’s great you’re getting Rain! Wow. Nice, but that wind can be too much! I’m curious how you liked the Beetle book … I’m on the wait list for it. Have a great week.

    1. Oh! I loved Miss Benson’s Beetle! My review posts tomorrow but it has the same tone as Eleanot Oliphant. Not entirely believable but entertaining, sometimes funny and honestly, sweet. One part that I think could have been written differently and once you read it I think you will know which part I am talking about but loved it. Will be on my fave list. I loved Harold Fry and The Music Shop too. Just added her other two books to my Kindle (Perfect and Queen Hennessy).

  10. Everything feels completely different to me now. I feel like I’ve been engaged in a continuous arm-wrestling with others (generally not vocalizing my thoughts, but keeping them in my head) about all the ridiculous (and worse) stances led by 45. And, now, at last, he’s gone, and sanity has resumed, and I say, Hurray!

I’ll be interested in seeing your review of Beetle.

Good luck to your daughter on her auditions. I hope things work out for the place she most wants to go.

  11. I have the audio of The Wife Upstairs but don’t know when I’ll get to it.

I have a very long list of shows about buying, remodeling, etc. houses on HGTV but haven’t ever seen Main Cabin Masters. I’ll be looking for it.

It’s finally warmed up here again. I’m not a fan of chilly weather.

    1. I went out to run an errand and it snowed!! In So Cal. Happens now and then. It didn’t stick for long but we are about to get three inches in the next few days and it’s hitting in about 30 minutes. Might see more snow. It’s so cold!
