New Look

The deed is done! The new template is in place. I hope you like it. It’s weird that the template didn’t include a home button, so I made one for the side bar. I know most people know to click on the header to return to home, but not everyone so I threw one together.

My focus was readability. With all of my eye issues I’ve been especially bothered by fonts that are hard to read. I believe these work well.

I think everything is working. If not, let me know in comments.

By the way, if you’ve been thinking of changing your own template, it was very easy to do in WordPress and they have so many neat themes to choose from. This one (Twenty Fourteen) was free and all I really did was create a custom header and some social media buttons to personalize it.

    1. Perfect. Clean and easy to read were two must haves for me.

    1. I was feeling bubbly when I did it. A year from my, I may feel like chevrons. I like the white space. Wakes me up.

  1. I like, although on Chrome a little too much white space for me to the right. And while the font is easy to read, it is a bit small for me, but then again I zoom everything up. However, on the positive side, I love the header, the design overall, and the green. Very nice. 🙂

    1. Are you talking about the white, right side bar? Or the empty white space on the right? That is how it displays on high res monitors. It was worse in preview. I can fix a lot for $99 a year but I am trying not to pay anything if I can avoid it.

The font is bigger than my old blog but I hear ya. Bigger is also included in the $99 a year premium fee.

      1. The empty white/grey space on the right.

But it is a nice theme and I like overall. I have to zoom up a lot of blogs so it’s not just yours. I probably need a new pair of glasses. 🙂 Progressives, my wife says.

        1. My home computer is set to 1260 and it fills the screen. At work it only fills half. I guess I will have to make up for it in content.

  2. I do love your new look! I am thinking of changing from blogspot to a dotcom this summer, so although I have changed some things on my blog, it is still not what I want it to be. If only I had more hours in the day!

    1.  Clean and delightful! I’ll take it! I had no idea how dated the blog looked before until I started to seriously look at themes. It’s easy to fall into a rut, I guess.

  3. Lovely! I admit I kind of miss the chairs, but sometimes a change is nice. I like that your menu stays at the top even when scrolled down.

    1. I miss the chairs a bit myself. This layout isn’t as dependent upon the header as my other layout was so I think the header will change yearly… I can see chairs making a comeback in some way.

  4. I really like this! I love how vibrant it is. I think my blog needs a decluttering. Not sure right now….I need some time to play around, so maybe on a vacation. I do like how large the font looks; i need something like that

  5. I think it’s the same theme as the one I picked out during the last Mini Bloggiesta and customized a little. I was going for readability, too, and was trying to get away from the three-column layout I had been using and include more white space. I like it! Good idea to add the home button, too!

    1. Yep. Same theme although I didn’t notice it until you mentioned it. You paid for the custom colors? I see yours has blue in the background. I’d love to have the custom colors but I won’t pay $99 a year for what is essentially a hobby of mine.

      1. I didn’t pay for anything extra! I changed the background color myself, but did it in a rush, and never got the match for my header that I was trying for, and after all this time, I still haven’t gotten back to it to try again!
