The Sunday Salon: Stuff

Sunday Salon

Summer is rarely slow for me, but I didn’t expect it to be busier than what I am used to.  I was so busy, I found myself running around and muttering stuff like “This is crazy!” or “How are we supposed to be in three places at once?” No one in my house responded. They just looked at me, eyes glazed over. Sports camp at the high school started and since The Boy decided late in the game to also go out for cross country (in addition to basketball), we found ourselves in a pickle. Two camps with conflicting times (which were not advertised as such). PLUS, rehearsals for the show. PLUS, The Girl is not out of school yet. Oh, and there’s that little DC trip that sent me all into a tizzy.

The DC trip is in progress right now and he’s having a great time. I felt much better about it once he landed safely. As far as the camps, he’ll have to make-up for lost time but he seems to be enjoying both camps so that’s a plus.

As soon as The Girl realized she would be without brother, she invited a friend over for the night. So… I am half asleep as I type this. Girls can zap the energy right out of you. All that giggling, jumping and running around. The Otter Pup thinks she is the boss of The Girl so imagine all the yapping that takes place every time she hears them crash through the house. Between you and I, I think the Pup gets jealous.

Today, I am in recovery mode. I just want to be a lump. A lump with a book and maybe a glass of iced tea with lemonade. I am reading Jaws by Peter Benchley (really good) and Whatever You Love by Louise Doughty (also good but parts of it disturb me). As usual I have about three other books that I switch between but these are my main reads at the moment.

What are you doing today? Oh, and I apologize for my lack of creativity in naming this post. Nothing else came to mind!

  1. the giggling always did me in :/ once we even had a group of them over…holy smokes!
We’re recovering today as well…my youngest finally is fever free this morning so we’ll be taking it very slow and easy. Sometimes I think summer is crazier than the school year.

  2. Ah, slumber parties – even ones that include only one friend. Such memories! LOL

That is one aspect of having a daughter that I don’t miss. It would have been better if I had not been such a early to bed-early to rise person. And I still am.

Hope your week goes well, Ti. Take care and enjoy your iced tea/lemonade and books! 🙂

  3. Your title is fine. We cleaned out the closet under our stairs and put stuff out for the bulk trash. Not enough if you ask me, the hubby has hoarding tendencies.

I am trying to get through Three Shades of Gray, I am not happy to admit. My book club picked it as a lark of a read. My daughter was disappointed to learn that I had succumbed, and she is right. I am also listening to Anna Quindlens new book on audio, Lots of Candles…..

I just finished The Fault In Our Stars, that book was an interesting perspective on teens with cancer, and I thought Green did an excellent job with his characterizations.

Enjoy the rest of your day!

    1. A lot of book clubs are reading Fifty Shades right now and it baffles me. I guess it’s good that it’s gotten people to read. I see a lot of housewives reading it when I am out running errands, but there are so many other books out there. I know I won’t read it, but I was curious about it. Fault In Our Stars was a great read. Very well done. I need to go through my house and do some cleaning. I hate clutter so I am always throwing stuff away but my daughter is a collector and when she tires of it, she moves stuff into the garage so now the garage is looking a bit scrappy. Have a good week!

  4. Things will hopefully slow down soon!

We made a garden and found out that literally steps from our house there is the most amazing bread being baked!

It’s an honor system thing where you walk into this beautiful old house and buy bread!!! They just bake whatever they feel like and sell it!

We bough a loaf of French bread with a salted crust and a wheat molasses one…yum!!!

  5. Glad to see I’m not alone in reading several books at a time, jumping from one to the other depending on where I am and what mood I’m in 🙂

    Hope everything calms down soon!

  6. I for see many sleepovers in my future. They seem like a good idea, “Oh, they’ll keep each other busy.” But they are exhausting. All that running around and asking for snacks every 5 mins. Whew!

    1. Your deck reading sounds lovely. I managed to slip out of the office at lunch. Read outside for awhile. Tonight, I will be reading in my car while the girl is at rehearsal. Trying to finish Whatever You Love. Not sure what to make of it. Sometimes I like it. Sometimes I don’t.

  7. Oh my gosh, there is nothing noisier than girls. I’ve had a dozen boys in my house at once and they didn’t make as much noise as a couple of girls can! Hope you got some chance to recharge!
