Movie Chat: Cowboys & Aliens

Cowboys & Aliens Daniel Craig

Was it good?

It was great!! Very entertaining. Lots of action but funny too. I was worried because it had gotten some bad reviews but seriously, it was a lot of fun to watch.

What about the acting?

The acting was great. Craig as a cowboy? It worked. Might have had something to do with those chaps (see photo above) but he pulled it off.

Ford was very funny as was Paul Dano and Sam Rockwell. I wanted more of Olivia Wilde. She was so awesome in Tron Legacy, but here… she wasn’t working to her full potential.

Were the aliens totally out of this world?

This is the only complaint I had. The CGI left a lot to be desired. There are many shots of the alien/s and to me, if they were going to have them so “front and center”, they should have invested a bit more time in making them look more realistic. Remember how The Hulk looked when the movie came out? Same thing here.

The close-up shots where they used puppetry or animatronics were great.

Was there a lot of violence?

There are quite a few fighting scenes and although lots isn’t shown, there is enough shown to keep small children away. It holds a PG-13 rating which I feel is appropriate.

See it, or rent it?

See it!

Note from Ti:

I can’t tell you how many times I smiled while checking out Craig in chaps. It was slightly weird to see him play a cowboy but it was a good weird. A welcome weird. Sigh. I can’t wait to see him as Blomkvist in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.

  1. I was thinking Craig would look pretty fine in a pair of chaps! It’s a great cast. I’m surprised such a poor job was done with the aliens. The Hulk was pathetic…you’d think everyone & anyone involved with making a movie would have learned from that.

It’s great you really enjoyed the movie. I love when you go into something expecting little and are happily surprised!

    Craig is playing Blomkvist? Cool!

    1. Have you taken a good look at that photo? LOL. Plus… I strung it all together in my weird, Ti way. Craig in chaps made me think of Blomkvist in Dragon (hopefully naked) and that made me think of Scandinavian fiction which made me think of Jo. So in a way…I was thinking of Nesbo all along.

  2. That tush is looking MIGHTY FINE in those chaps, I have to admit. My kids sneered at the previews of this movie and said they would not see it. (Think I’m ruining them?) For me personally, I would deal with the silliness of it just to see that tush. Sort of how I felt when we saw Thor. The entire movie, I just sat there with a stupid grin on my face.

    1. Your kids would like it. Onlya couple of people got up during the film and no one was talking or texting. That’s the sign of an entertaining flick!

  3. Oh No, I don’t want to see a Hollywood manufactured film of the Girl with a Golden Tattoo! isn’t the Swedish version good enough for international consumption? Why do we need Hollywood? Thanks for the movie review. I’m afraid it may not be my cup of tea.

  4. I cannot stress strongly enough my undying love for Harrison Ford. I can’t wait to sit in a lovely, cool, dark theater and drool over my would be boyfriend. I have to add my husband totally understands that I’m outta here if I ever have a chance with Mr. Ford. 😉

  5. I was on the fence about this one (the premise sounded silly to me) but I think you’ve sold me! I could stand to look at Craig in chaps for a few hours too. 😉

  6. Nice review. When you go to see a movie called ‘Cowboys and Aliens,’ you don’t expect high art, and that’s fine by us. But if the film itself has problems with taking itself too seriously, that spells trouble, mainly because when you have five writers that’s never a good sign. Still somewhat fun entertainment. Check out my review when you can!

  7. Man I’m so jealous! I’m dying to see this but it’s hard w/ few babysitters to watch the little man. I loved your review….and yes, Craig in chaps…not a bad way to spend a few hours 🙂
