The Sunday Salon: Where Did The Week Go?

It’s Sunday. Really. Hmph.

My week off went by so quickly. We had a lovely Thanksgiving. We lounged around. We watched movies. We ate, and ate, and ate. My goodness, that turkey was the best turkey EVER!

I shopped. A little. It wasn’t too crazy. I was glad.

However, I find myself blue. I have been in a down mood for the past week or two. I know in part it’s related to my situation at work (forced furloughs) and I know that there is so much else to be thankful for (truly, I am thankful) but I am so blue. Also, something happened that’s left me very sad. I get incredibly pensive when my actions are doubted in any way. I need to snap out of it.

So. I’ve been  reading. I just finished In a Perfect World. I loved it, but it did nothing to lift my spirits. You’ll see why when I post the review. I have also been reading Under the Dome and today I am seeing The Road. I know! For a person who is blue I sure picked a bunch of depressing books/movies to occupy my time with.

I have Monday off (furlough) so I am going to spend the day re-grouping. Hopefully after a day of quite, nothingness I’ll be back to my normal self.

How was your week? What movies did you see? I saw New Moon, it was better than the book but you all know what I thought about the book. I hope The Road does the book justice and that it doesn’t send me spiraling into despair. Just kidding. I know what the book did to me so I am prepared!

  1. Ti, you really need to get some cheerier reading. 🙂 Maybe you could use that extra time tomorrow to trip over to the library for something fun like The Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie or this one recently recommended at Dolce Bellezza:

Hope you feel better soon, but it sounds like your feelings are justified all the same. Wishing you all the best! Happy reading!

  2. I’m sorry you’re feeling blue. I’ve been struggling with some things lately myself and find it hard to motivate myself to do anything. The dark days don’t help either.

    1. It’s been sunny and blue here but it hasn’t seemed to help much. I’ve never been this down. Ever! Especially during this time of the year. It’s totally thrown me off.

  3. I am sorry you have experienced the blues over the past several days. I can totally relate though. I am not at all ready to go back to school tomorrow and dread all those papers.

I hope that your mood brightens a bit with each passing day and the holiday season is one filled with hope and happiness for you and your family.

    1. I know, I have to go back to work tomorrow and I am so not looking forward to it. However, it may help to be back into a routine again.

  4. So sorry Ti that you are having such a tough time. I hope your movie and book choices don’t bring you down further. I am hoping you will post a review of The Road (movie) as I am so curious about how they pull that book off in movie form. I am going to wait for it to come out on DVD–when some of the theaters around here are charging $12 a pop, we have gotten very selective about the movies we go out to see. We are headed to the new 3-D Christmas Carol one today–all my friends have raved about it!
Take care of yourself, and I hope your day off tomorrow is productive in many ways.

  5. I’m glad you liked your turkey. Ours was really good too – in the height of a lazy mood, I got a PRE-COOKED turkey breast from Costco and it was I think the best we have ever had! I’m sad too but I decided it must be in part from all the holiday sugar! After the initial high one tends to crash. And because I signed up for Thankfully Reading but I’ve been unthankfully waylaid by a million things around the house! I’ll be so interested in hearing how The Road is. My husband loved the book but the reviews we have read of the movie have not inspired even him to want to go.

  6. I go through periods of blue-ness. I’m just quieter, and I stay at home and don’t call anyone. It just has to work its way out, sometimes helped by a girls’ night out, a nice brisk walk with my audiobook or organizing something. I did not know The Road just came out! I did really love that book, plus there’s Viggo of course…

  7. Ti…Anything i can do to un-Blue you let me know. 🙂

Been there. Kinda still trying to get out….but it’s better.

I went to see a really great movie for blues though. The Blind Side. Go see it!!!!!
Don’t read anything about it just go. It’s soooooo great…and a true story.

  8. I’m sorry your struggling with your mood. I’ve dealt with some pretty serious depression and know how crummy it feels. Keep pluggin’ along. It will not stick around too long.

  9. I hope you’re able to shake off the blues this week…and hopefully our planned book-blogger meet-up this coming Saturday is something fun you can look forward to :-)!

  10. I’m sorry to hear you’ve been feeling down lately, Ti. The budget situation for my department is not looking good and the furloughs that were meant to keep away layoffs aren’t going to be enough. It’s very nerve-wracking. So, I can empathize with you about the whole work thing. I do hope things start looking up for you soon.

You’ve just reminded me that I need to find The Road, which is somewhere among my mass of books in my TBR room and read it. I do want to see the movie–but must read the book first.

I hope you have a great week!

  11. It doesn’t rain but it pours, huh? I hope you’re enjoying the quiet relaxing day you hoped for today, and that the office is in a (generally) good mood when you return to work on Tuesday.

But, yikes! THE ROAD! I haven’t been able to read the book because of the dark dystopian theme; well, how was the movie?

  12. I’m so sorry you’ve been blue. I know the feeling–we lost our beloved family dog this week. She was old and lived a good, long life, but it was still hard. So I’ve been blue, too. I’m trying to pick something lighthearted to read, hoping it will lift my spirits!

  13. My brother is facing forced furloughs too … seems to be the new “thing.” I guess it is better than losing your job but still….

And I don’t think “The Road” is the best movie to see when you’re feeling a bit blue!!!
